It is just that the American market was too conservative for Slade and they thought Glam was "gay". Also It was the UK media that pulled the plug on Slade in the late 70s. Not the other way around. Their last 3 albums are overloaded with great tunes in many popgenres. Highest level of songwritingannd constantly evolving during their entire careers. Best UK band ever.
Slade's early stuff was brilliant. Good, edgy, hard hitting rock n roll. Then they went soft.
Glam rock was part of their success but I think it was their undoing. They catered too much for the Top of the Pops audience. That audience moved on. The fans who had got them there in the first place, had also moved on because, they weren't getting the kind of music that got them interested in the first place.
After Slade in Flame. They dropped off my radar almost completley.
I'm sorry. slade were an excelent band for around 4 or 5 years. 69 to 74 maybe into 75. It went down hill after that. Slade without Noddy Holder doesn't make any sense at all. I never intended to knock Slade. but just decided to respond to the nonsence you were spouting about Oassis. I'm not a massive Oassis fan but see them as the great band that they were. The UK charts were in a terrible state before they came along.

You are so wrong again; Slade are recognized as one of the best live acts in the seventies and early eighties. If Slade had stayed true to their roots, they could easily have competed with Punk, but they didn't.

@christopauls They were a big influence for later punkrock. Also It is not true that they did not make great music after 1976. It is just that the American market was too conservative for Slade and they thought Glam was "gay". Also It was the UK media that pulled the plug on Slade in the late 70s. Not the other way around. Their last 3 albums are overloaded with great tunes in many popgenres. Highest level of songwritingannd constantly evolving during their entire careers. Best UK band ever.

Slade's early stuff was brilliant. Good, edgy, hard hitting rock n roll. Then they went soft.
Glam rock was part of their success but I think it was their undoing. They catered too much for the Top of the Pops audience. That audience moved on. The fans who had got them there in the first place, had also moved on because, they weren't getting the kind of music that got them interested in the first place.
After Slade in Flame. They dropped off my radar almost completley.

I'm sorry. slade were an excelent band for around 4 or 5 years. 69 to 74 maybe into 75. It went down hill after that. Slade without Noddy Holder doesn't make any sense at all. I never intended to knock Slade. but just decided to respond to the nonsence you were spouting about Oassis. I'm not a massive Oassis fan but see them as the great band that they were. The UK charts were in a terrible state before they came along.

@christopauls Slade were always brilliant. After 1975 the media pulled the plug on them, it is not true that they haven t made great songs after that. It seems you don t know any Slade songs after 1975. Especially their last 3 albums are simply genius. Oasis did t even get near, live or in studio. They weren t so versatile and evolving like Slade did constantly. Oasis haven t played many styles and after 2000 they have repeated themselves and copying other artists.That s the reason they split.

@Jlipnicki You are right!!!, it is not for nothing that Noel is freaking out on the Slade Documentary about this song as "one of the best ever written, EASY" in the history of pop. Noel knows that Slade were the true masters.
I agree, Slade were much greater and versatile than Oasis who are overhyped, look at those silly godlike comments on Oasis uploads. Slade have made real tunes in lots of pop/rock genres, Oasis have separated becoz they can t renew, something Slade have done continuously.
