Why does no one like Andrea Ferro's Vocals????? I mean yea oh my god Cristina's vocals are so beautiful but if she didn't have Andrea there she wouldn't really sound that good because it sounds good how it switches between the two, they complement each other in a way.

Its funny people are so offended with the LP comparison, I heard it pretty much right away. This album was produced by Don Gilmore (same guy who does LP) so its not really surprising they would have similar elements. Get rid of Ferro, that guys voice is weak.
With all respect for my lovely LC, but it actually very precise comparison. It really sounds like a part from Runaway LP, but this is nothing wrong about this of course. There are many examples of songs which sounds similar in some parts. It only proves that people who can catch such similarity have a good ear and enjoy the music :) akay
@dejnio91 What LC did on this album was emulate LPs hybrid theory guitar riffs. I fuckin love that personally cause LP blows now IMO that they abandoned the style they created. I love Scabbias voice for LC but she cant do chester justice in a LP emulation...only the singing....not the screaming....and homeboy couldnt scream his way out a paper sack.......Now the chick from In This Moment? Best chick metal screamer ever. Could do this style better then LP could have.

Funny, after deciding that, with all due respect to Lacuna Coil and the fact they are free to take their music whichever way they choose, Shallow Life just isn't my cup of tee (Unleashed Memories and In A Reverie remain my favourite works) and with thinking that my Linkin Park liking days (yes I would agree about feeling a slight similarity here) belong to the very distant past, I find myself enjoying this song:). Far from being among the best of LC, I find it pleasantly catchy and uplifting.

Every band writes with influence from previous bands. In this case (what i think btw), (L)acuna Coil was deeply influenced by (L)inkin Park and also...other bands.
The chorus of this (good) song proves this, with the other singer singing (Very much like the LP singer) the three syllables I'm (Not-Af-raid). In LP's (2000) song Runaway...(Run-a-way). I like Lacuna Coil anyway. The rest of both songs sound completely different anyhow.
I think I've read this a lot, Lacuna Coil came out with this song before Linkin Park did. So it's the other way around I believe.
Whether I'm wrong (which is possible) or right, you're right. There's no shame in being influenced by each other. It isn't like they steal any lyrics or the entire music score.

Ppl are being very critical of the new sounds they're trying out and I don't know why. Every band experiments a bit in the process of growing. The band KISS made a disco album at one point, but that didn't kill them as a band or do much to lessen their fan base, which is enormous to this day. LC will be fine.

LP is Cristina Scabbia's favorite band. And there is a LP feel to this song, in the instrumentation at least. Not so much on the other tracks, but definitely on this one. You probably don't notice it cause you're not an LP fan.

I meant that I've never heard LC use the word "car" in any of their songs up to now. I guess I was just being a bit paranoid about how everyone was saying that LC sold out on this CD and on Karmacode. Personally, I've noticed a bit of a change in their style as well, but I like to think that every band goes through a bit of a change in their style, especially since there was a 4 year break between Comalies and Karmacode. When put into perspective, 4 years is plenty of time for a change in sound.

Ok, I know this song sounds like Runaway by Linkin Park, but Linkin Park had gotten soft now and doesn't do any of their old stuff anymore. Now, Shallow Life is a decent album, Lacuna Coil is an excellent band, and its rare that they make a truly bad song. Nevertheless, this is one. I don't mind "mainstream" or "radio-ready," but there comes a time when Linkin Park-esque cookie cutter guitar riffs and lazy song structures are just too painful for any listener. "I'm Not Afraid" is sadly one of Lacuna Coil's worst moments. I am praying that they do not release it as a single, because the metal community will HATE them for it.
I hear it again at 1:55 and 2:38 , it sounds like a trumpet or a siren or something. It's not loud, it's kinda distant and background oriented; but to me, it still sticks out quite a bit and is rather annoying.

I apologise for this, but LinkinPark used Runaway in their 2000 album while LacunaCoil released this 9 years later.
Unless they previously made it before 2000 and just used it in their '09 album, which seems unlikely.

@SPQR0891 You shouldn't care what it sounds like on another band. This is in the gothic-metal section of music. It is good and thats great, if another sounds similar, well let it. Cause in your opinion this is the better, and that should be the only thing that matters. Just sit back and enjoy this album.

Ppl are being very critical of the new sounds they're trying out and I don't know why. Every band experiments a bit in the process of growing. The band KISS made a disco album at one point, but that didn't kill them as a band or do much to lessen their fan base, which is enormous to this day. LC will be fine.

This albumn to me is nice. Guitar solos, and good singing. Works for me.
If anything heavier then what Lacuna Coil normally does, which is not at all a bad thing.

Agreed, comalies was so much better and original. I didn't even like karmacode that much...Comalies was how they won me over and now it sucks because they have totally changed their style once they got popular.

LP is Cristina Scabbia's favorite band. And there is a LP feel to this song, in the instrumentation at least. Not so much on the other tracks, but definitely on this one. You probably don't notice it cause you're not an LP fan.

Even if this song does have a bit of LP feel to it (Can't really hear it, but everyone can hear stuff like that differantly :3), it still doesn't change the fact they are mentioned in vids of most bands =\ expcialy anything that's rap rock, no matter what people are going to say that...

I do like some songs from this album. They are still the best but some songs can be better like "I like it". I do agree that this song sounds like the old them, that's why it's great.

I meant that I've never heard LC use the word "car" in any of their songs up to now. I guess I was just being a bit paranoid about how everyone was saying that LC sold out on this CD and on Karmacode. Personally, I've noticed a bit of a change in their style as well, but I like to think that every band goes through a bit of a change in their style, especially since there was a 4 year break between Comalies and Karmacode. When put into perspective, 4 years is plenty of time for a change in sound.

Yes this does sound like Linkin Park's Runaway. Apart from the fact that Runaway is better than this. I think Lacuna Coil's best song is Spellbound. :)

Ok, I know this song sounds like Runaway by Linkin Park, but Linkin Park had gotten soft now and doesn't do any of their old stuff anymore. So I like this song and I really don't give a shit of what people say about this song. It's awsome. And fuck the people who says this sucks 'cause they're just saying it sucks 'cause that's probably what the people are good at. This is the best song on this album. Lacuna Coil rocks.

Now, Shallow Life is a decent album, Lacuna Coil is an excellent band, and its rare that they make a truly bad song. Nevertheless, this is one. I don't mind "mainstream" or "radio-ready," but there comes a time when Linkin Park-esque cookie cutter guitar riffs and lazy song structures are just too painful for any listener. "I'm Not Afraid" is sadly one of Lacuna Coil's worst moments. I am praying that they do not release it as a single, because the metal community will HATE them for it.

I hear it again at 1:55 and 2:38 , it sounds like a trumpet or a siren or something. It's not loud, it's kinda distant and background oriented; but to me, it still sticks out quite a bit and is rather annoying.

The sound and look is completely different and you all know it, but you're in denial. Let's face it, Lacuna Coil sold out. And come on "I Like It" sounds like a Lady Gaga song. The album isn't as strong as the rest. The only track that I can honestly say I like is "Shallow Life" But even that doesn't hold what Lacuna Coil used to be.

Of course I know their earlier stuff and like it better, like another category of music altogether. Karmacode was the pinnacle of their selloutness, on this album they have just become more comfortable with their sold-out image.
and this song is quite fun to listen to be truthful. So positive and uplifting. Can be enjoyed.
But yes, I do fully agree with you.
