  • At that time too much ; ) - had to work out a few kinks. With 100% torque at 0 RPM, It's quick off the line but the additional weight catches up to it around 40. I clocked it at 12 seconds a few months later but my clutch was starting to slip a bit (I reused the stock clutch and the electric motor turns out more torque than it can handle). I plan to upgrade it to Lithium and put in a racing clutch this year which should bring the time down below 10 seconds.

  • 0-60 ?

  • so, are you going to make one with tesla or tengo parts? it would make it run soooo much faster!

  • No Power steering?

  • It's funny you edited in clips from Frankenstein, because what you created is an abomination! You've taken a (some what) fast, lightweight, great handling roadster and turned it into a heavy, sluggish, over sided golf cart.

you, sir, should be executed for you crimes against car kind!

  • @xBDBx +1000

  • @xBDBx A car that can be picked up for 500 dollars *Chuckles*

  • @14omega28ok it may be cheap where you live. my 04 MX-5 Sport (1.8l / 6 Spd. / LSD) cost me the equivalent of 25k$ just 4 months ago.

  • we want to see some tyre smoke

  • umm, do you normally pull out in to the road with out looking?

  • do you think using the stock daisy wheels or the bbs ones would increase your range? they were about 12lbs each

  • @link0587 Yes they would. The weight of the wheel is one factor, and the "stickiness" of the tires are the other. Range would be better with low rolling resistance tires and these low-profile tires don't help the cause...

  • great video - any updates? how's she runnin these days?

  • @sockosockosocko She's a daily driver - no problems, she just runs. Got two more videos waiting to get edited. Need to get to it...

  • man those rims are PERFECT!

  • you from sf? the town homes kinda look like it, and this seems like a friscian thing to do! haha nice job sir

  • awesome lets hear it....err wait nvm..

  • so much for 50/50 weight distribution...i ve never seen a miata take so much room to turn..its more ilkely due to the wheels tho..sick ride none the less

  • @awesomeman09 driver's fault.

  • ITS ALIVE!!!

  • sweet i love it man! and to euro trash comenter, you can use deductive reasoning to rip someone apart but can you use inductive reasoning to solve the problem? GO EV! RECYCLE REUSE REDUCE.........

  • recycle reuse reduce. its using thirteen fucking batteries. How do you recycle battery acid?

  • you must be shot in the head, acid is neutralized easily and becomes inert! your so dumd its hilarious! fyi their are lakes of acid around the world from volcano's as well and we do recycle the lead and plastics so we are and do recycle batteries and have for decades! You have hydrocloric acid in ur stomach! haha Wow looks like you wont figure it out anytime soon good things some of us can for you! lmao your the reason we mandate laws for the rest of us!

  • hahaha love the beginning! insta fav!

you know with the hood off and those wheels on it, the mouth of the car being the way that it is, it has a vague resemblance to the Shelby Cobra.

    Pretty neat

  • (cont'd) You claim Europeans are the on/y ones doing anything about the environment! How laughable! If Europe had the same high standards of emissions as the US, the edifices of all the ancient Greek and Roman marble buildings would not have been eaten away just in the last few decades. I don't use the generalities you do-- there are bad Americans, bad Europeans where the environment is concerned-- you are one of the worst for attempting to spread lies about electric vehicles (cont'd).

  • Congrats! That first test drive is kinda stressful, eh? Good luck with the rest of the build, Kearon with the EV Capri, Sudney, Australia.

  • do i get it right? your car totally misses the punch of an EV. however, great work though

  • Yeah well, the DC/DC converter wasn't installed at this point, so the main contactor was on the SLI battery. Naturally, this is the one battery that wasn't fully charged :( When I stepped on the juice, the contactor let go and the car rolled to a stop. Check out the 2nd video "Count Down to Blast Off!"

  • oh ok, I see. THAT explains a lot bec. EVs usually go off like a rocket. Which means, I'll watch your other vid. Check my comment, lol.

    cheers

  • Thats sick!!!! I want an daily driver EV so bad.

  • HAHAHA it can barely take the uphill.

Man why did you ruin a perfectly good car?!

  • To xsaradriver1: Of course you're laughing! Do-nothing couch-potato jackasses like yourself always will. I'd bet you never had the initiative to ever make anything in your own life!

Even if it takes another few weeks to work out the bugs, his EV Miata will undoubtedly be far more satisfying than continuing to drive a car that runs on gasoline bought from the same OPEC vermin that financed the 9/ 11 terrorist attacks.

I am almost finished converting a BMW 3-series coupe to battery power. OLE!.

  • Sorry but you are simply an idiot. First of all, petrol money did not finance 9/11. If your reasons are political, get hydrogen, because with batteries you're helping china. And last but not least, battery-powered cars are for hidious environmentalist hypocrits (like yourself). Why you may ask? simply because building one of those batteries is more harmful to the environment than a car running for a year. Hence why the Prius is also a car for hypocrits it harms the environment more than a Benz

  • xsaradriver1: since you are the one that started the flaming, jackass, THINK: WHERE THE F**K ARE YOU GETTING YOUR INFORMATION FROM?! You're a witless toady that will believe anything you wanna believe no matter how nonsensical. Yes, there are nameless sources of such idiotic remarks, but all CREDIBLE sources of data, such as the EPA and OSHA, confirm that what you say is absolutely, totally FALSE!!! Check your sources, dimwit... now, go crawl back under the rock you came out from.

  • 1: You started the flaming.

2: I am government. You go crawl under you battery powered shack. But please drink all of those battery contents dont shoot them back into the sea when you're done. And don't speak politics to me, I'm almost a phd in the field.

  • xsaradriver1 : LOL!!! You're a riot! Either you're a blatant liar, or your college should be ashamed of themselves for turning out borderline illiterates that don't even know how to spell, use a spell check, or even understand what the red line is under a word when it's trying to tell you that you need to learn to spell (hidious, hypocrits, numerous punctuation and other errors).

If you really had a decent education, I would think you would have learned to research such... (cont'd)

  • English is my 3rd (of 5 languages).

It in no way acts as an argument to counter what I said. Furthermore, I am not american (Thank God, I would shoot myself), I am European. You are an idiot though. Eat your bigmac and go croak.

  • xsaradriver1 (cont'd) ... questionable comments you have made before you embarrass yourself.

You say you're "government".... lol... I can tell you're not American, and it's scary to think that any government would be sorry enough to hire a pathetic pseudo-intellectual as yourself.

What is it about EVs that has you so desperate and panicked that you would attack this fellow that YOU started flaming--("Man why did you ruin a perfectly good car?!") He at least is trying to do... (cont'd)

  • pseudo-intellectual? buddy you really chose the WRONG FUCKING FRONT on which to attack me. You really have no idea. Get a life or die, but please change. I work for something far bigger than your crappy country. You would not know what it is even if I told you. And I happen to know a few things about the environment. Batteries contain far more ozone depleting substances than CO2. Why am I even arguing with an american high-school graduate (if even). BLOCK.

  • xsaradriver1: LOL! You're pitiful! You'll never impless anyone with your "knowledge" of batteries, when you make vague and ominous charges that they are somehow such terrible environmental hazards, when even the worst batteries-- FLAs, or floating lead acids-- are carefully recycledj The best of the lot, such as those using nanotitanate, are so benign they use components that are used in everyday house paint, & won't even explode or catch fire if you overcharge them, hammer nails... (cont'd.)

  • (cont'd) something constructive re: gasoline ruining our environment & is running out soon anyway, rather than making derisive comments like you are making even tho you have no viable suggestion what else we might do.

If you really had anything intelligent to say, you'd be saying it rather than trying to impress us with your alleged education, & position in the gov't.

You're a dolt, fella, but don't let that depress you. So long as you stop making asinine public comments, no one will know.

  • Gasoline is not running out retard. We will be using an alternative source of energy before it runs out, one that will cost less than gasoline. In other words, gasoline might never run out, its cost though will increase. According to the most accurate scientific calculations cars could be responsible for as much as 4% of global warming. AS MUCH AS... 4%!! batteries are more harmful wake up!!

  • xsaradriver1 cont'd: Gasoline not running out?!? LOL!!! What planet are you living on?! The OPEC countries have every reason to lie about how much oil reserve they have, since the ratios of such reserves determine how much each country is allowed to sell compared to others. THEY ARE ALL GROSSLY AND KNOWINGLY OVERESTIMATING THEIR RESERVES, & none of them will allow anyone to verify their claims because it's all a lie.

Yes, there are ways of using algae, grasses and garbage to make... (cont'd)

  • xsaradriver1(cont'd):using grasses and garbage to make gasoline, but NONE ARE CLOSE TO BEING COMMERCIALLY VIABLE! Electric cars are quiet, extremely simple (don't even need complex transmissions), extremely efficient, can run on the power of the sun as harvested by the owners of the cars themselves, pollution-free as EVERY credible source of such information acknowledges, and require virtually no maintenance for years at a time-- even the brakes last longer due to regen braking. (cont'd.)

  • Farting cows are worse...

  • Oh and let`s be honest, as far as environmentalism is concerned, I am very happy NOT to be american. Becuase being american in as far as this field is concerned makes you a second rate citizen of the world. Not to say 3rd rate. Europeans are the only ones doing ANYTHING about the environment. Go drive your battery pack, but when you toss the batteries away, make sure you do it next to your child`s bed. WAKE UP!!!

  • (cont'd) ... thru them, or bake them @ 400 degrees F. They will last through tens of thousands of charge cycles, so they will last for fifty years or more even under heavy use. There is no way they could possibly produce more pollution than all the gasoline the same car would require!

You attack the US for being "crappy"-- a vague, unfounded comment that makes you sound like a schoolyard bully... when the strongest environmental standards in the world have always been in California. (cont'd.)

  • BTW... there is NO DOUBT that the Saudi Arabs were the ones that financed the 9/11 terrorists... the CIA traced the bank payments. And immediately after the 9/11 attacks, all planes in the entire country were supposedly grounded-- the only plane allowed to fly anywhere in the country at that time was the plane carrying the bin Laden family out of the country, without any questions whatsoever. The bin Ladens and George Bush are friends in the oli business! See the "Fahrenheit 9/11"documentary!

  • xsaradriver1: also: re: battery sources: China is not the primary sources of lithium-- they are behind Chile and Argentina, and Bolivia has roughly half of the known lithium deposits. And wherever we get it from, batteries are a one-time purchase, rather than buying gasoline that is sure to rise far beyond the $5. a gallon it was costing before the current crisis. It has already more than doubled in cost since the beginning of the year, despite the great decrease in demand!

  • xsaradriver1: (cont'd) EVs are already taking over the automotive market! Everyone can see that already, and their numbers will continue to grow by leaps and bounds.

You say hydrogen is some kind of an answer-- who are you kidding? Even the strongest supporters of hydrogen fuel cells say that it won't be ready for commercial use for DECADES. Hydrogen is obscenely expensive, terribly dangerous, requires ultra cold temps and ultra high pressures just to get it in cylindrical tanks... (cont'd.)

  • Amazing Car...Amazing Approach!

  • That thing must weigh a LOT! But Kudos! You definitely have my respect on that build! Keep it up good sir!

  • ITS ALIVE! Now that I see it is possible, I must finish my Miata conversion.

  • Thanks, Cthrilla.

She's running 156 volts from 13 Optima deep cycle batteries, a Zilla 1K controller, Zivan charger and Iota DC/DC converter. Much more info on the evmiata web site including a build blog, budget and links to suppliers.

  • Yeah, the wheels came with the car. They are growing on my though...

  • Great job sir! I wish do do a conversion some time soon.

What you packing under the hood?

Volts motor controller whats the range speed etc??

  • Great video, and you gotta love that soundtrack! I'm looking forward to the sequel.
