LOVE Hard Candy!! I mean, its no masterpiece, but it achieves what it's supposed to. It's intentionally hedonistic, cheeky, candylicious ;-) It has its thoughtful, introspective moments (miles away, devil, voices) but the idea is, its supposed to be fun and playful. Sticky & sweet, right?! I think to take the album so seriously, is to miss the point completely.

Madonna has often been subtle and coded things in ambiguous lyrical and video content. People go crazy over Madonna often for no reason. Half the people who think Madonna's so "bold" have never listened to a Madonna album or watched the video.

Sometimes that's Madonna's fault. Take Erotica, for example. Most people didn't purchase that album b/c of the Sex book associated with it, which didn't have much to do with the album. Only 2 or 3 songs on the record actually discussed sex yet most thought it was a smut-filled sex-fest.

I remember all scandal that was "Erotica" but I didn't see what the fuss was all about. I purchased the album but not "Sex." I'm not sure I was old enough to buy it and wasn't really into collecting the way I am now. After seeing pics from the book I didn't find it to be nearly as shocking as some said it was.
