I'm not trying to be a bitch or start anything, but why in the hell does everyone keep saying that the actor who played Frank looked like Taylor Lautner? It's really starting to annoy me. He doesn't/didn't look a damn thing like him. Taylor Lautner was only a baby when AYAOTD was on the air. Absolutely freaking love this love this show, born '86, grew up with retro Nickelodeon. I'm a '90's kid and damn proud out of it! :)
Gary looks like Harry Potter. Dr.Vink looks like Hagrid. That narrator man does look like taylor Launter and Nosafartu looks like Voldemort. Why is the Harry Potter crew in Are You Afraid of the Dark?
I'm drunk and watching this, and I must say, while my mind is distorted, I still remember it from when I was a kid :) oh sweet old Nickelodeon, what happened to you?
One bucket of popcorn one hotdog one packet of candies one soda, one movie ticket total price about 13 bucks at my local cheap-theater. every town has em, they show the movies that the New theater had 6 months ago. cheap prices good food. A great way to spend an evening.
Word to the wise...if you want to pay UNDER 6 bucks for 2 sodas and popcorn, sneak it in ;) I never play movie theatre prices for food...fk that... You can get a much larger soda for about 1.50 (quantity wise, because a bottle of pop doesn't come with ice), a bag of popcorn for 2 bucks--if you pop it yourself (even less), totaling 4-5 bucks or less.
@pirateking888 6 dollars for a bag of skittles??? 0.o You must live in NY or one of those other expensive cities... bag of skittles is still about 1 dollar where I live.
@pirateking888 Lol CHILL OUT! Even at a movie theatre it's not 6 bucks where I am... 4 AT MOST. And if you're so peeved go to a convenient store and get a cheap pack...
But seriously, calm down..it's just a pack of skittles 0.o
It's nice to see how invested that boy is in his part-time job handing out those leaflets on street corners lol. And I can't believe Nickelodeon showed the boss drinking...oh the days when kids shows were slightly more realistic :)
Man do I ever miss the old Nickelodeon, especially Nick at Night. And Ahhh! Real Monsters! That was the shit. And waking up on Saturday mornings watching cartoons & eating eggs with my mom, now I usually wake up with a hangover on Saturdays haha. What I'd give to go back in time to be a kid again.
at 1:29 he says about the movie feeling like it's real and make believe and all that. Mu word to him is it is called the uncanny valley - scientifically proven, nothing new there dipshit hahaha!
I loved this show when it was on and This one was the only one that freaked me out.
Out of the skeleton from Dead man's float, the Dangerous soup, Cuttlers cove, nightly neighbors this one with the vampire in the movie biting the neck was the one thing that creeped me out. I miss this stuff
@GabeGuevaraTV As someone else said I'm female and I don't like Twhylight. I believe in vampires that bite people's necks and burn not sparkle in the sun.
i just wish they had like 100 different epidsodes of Are You Afraid Of The Dark ..because watching all these re-runs of only 15 epidsodes is getting boring i know theres more out there but this user just don't have all the epidsodes but thanks for posting these childhood memories!
@dsc385 man someone should upload all that ....75 to 80 episodes for the person who owns the whole intire collection please do so upload the whole seasons.
@illzidaneyou He was. Vink was Frank's special character (much like Sardo was Gary's) and made multiple appearances. He returned in "Dangerous Soup" and "Cutter's Treasure" (which also featured Sardo).
@mst3KGf@Monsterenergy212@illzidaneyou Dr. Vink, or the character who played him rather, was also in the episode called The Tale of Laughing In the Dark, he played the carnival guy who sends Zeebo after that kid who stole the clowns nose.
So they're out beside a campfire at midnight, then after they're going to the cinema? Unless of course their group's name is misleading and it isn't midnight at all.
Love it! The over-the-top acting was something I never noticed before, but it makes the show even more fun, both as a kid and an adult.
Also, I think this is the first time (and maybe the only time, outside of cartoons) that I saw a character drinking alcohol, from a flask, in a kid's show. (9:25)
A video store just closed where I live and it really bums you out to see business's or stores loose costomers and eventually close down. lol I know it's just a show but that's probably how people really feel about it. ;)
Man, I've been watching this show the last 16 years and I STILL don't know how they make that match light up in the opening credits. HOW DO THEY DO IT?!
the actor who played dr. vink (aron tagger) also was the carnial barker, and zeebo the clown from the episode of "laughing in the dark". god i'm such a 90's kid.
Did she call him "Don Quixote" because she believes he's delusionally fighting a losing battle for a lost way of life in a world that has lost its way? If so, that's quite a sophisticated reference for a teenage "Are You Afraid of the Dark" character. She must be an lit nerd.
Of all the episodes I ever saw of this show, nothing ever scared me more than this one. I was about eight years old the first time I ever saw it, and that freaking vampire TERRIFIED me beyond description. I was too scared for fall asleep for weeks!
wow, 1 popcorn and 2 sodas was $6 at the time? oh the good ol' days...
Anyways, this was my favorite episode when I was little, and actually made me interested in seeing the film Nosferatu. All this, and I was probably in 1st or 2nd grade. But this show got me thinking at a young age, and that's the point I'm trying to make. I really didn't realize how good I had it growing up. Now all movies/shows are shit and don't make a kid sit down and think, or want to do research on a topic.
though i can't say i've seen it, i get the jist of it and it's just as stupid and pointless as every other piece of crap on tv nowadays. can't really tell me to watch it to find out if it's good or not cuz it's just one of those shows you know is no good, with or without watching it.
@macabrehaze Several times when people say things like this, I think, "man, we all have some horrible nostalgia goggles; these old shows probably aren't any worse in reality in comparison to new shows."
However, I watched a few episodes of this with my nieces, and they can tell (at ages 8 and 3), that stuff on Nick and "the CN" and Disney today is horrible, and that, while TV always has and always will rot our minds, it's not just nostalgia; the classics really ARE classic. =D
Man whatever happened to shows like these? I mean I know you hear everybody reminisce about the 'olden days' but they absolutely wouldn't show this kind of stuff on tv these days. It's deemed as 'too scary for kids' and 'unfit for daytime tv'
Where are all the mature shows for young people? Do you honestly think they can stomach marathons of spongebob the rest of their adolescent lives?
It is intellectual entrophy man, you keep forcing homogenized media on kids, watered down shit that doesn't provoke them mentally like old shows like this and Bill Nye, Mr. Wizard, ect, and they grow up to be mal-adjusted people who can't cope in a world that needs them to be smarter than the generation before them.
In the world war 2 generation, it was common knowledge to know how to build a radio. Everyone knew how. Ask any highschool kid to do that now.
Ah the good old days. I am so sick of society trying to tone things down "for the good of the children". The children are just going to grow up to hate them for not preparing them for a tough world.
@drunkdonutboy Dude spoken like a true child of the 80s and 90s. Nothing but garbage for kids to watch today. If I want to watch good TV now, I turn on TV land to watch Cheers, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Married with Children, and all the other great shows of days gone by. Reality TV (which isnt real) has destroyed TV for the most part.
Okay, this is weird...the storyteller looks like Taylor Lautner, Gary looks like Harry Potter, and Vink kind of looks like a shorter Hagrid...haha I love this show.
The name of the story sounds like an ad for a sale.

Fuck man...FUCK....

And Spongebob and such are total trash.

@drunkdonutboy I agree

This was a really good episode.
To this day, I think it's funny the way Dr. Vink mocks the manager saying "Six bucks."

This one and the Quicksilver episode scared the crap out of me. I couldn't sleep for days after this.
Saturday night SNICK with my friends over a sleepover were the best times.
Lord I feel so bad for the kids nowadays. Hannah Montana? Spongebob? Too bad, so sad.

OH MAN!! I KNOW!! THOSE ARE THE TWO SCARIEST!!! I'm 23 years old, and after watching this episode, I'm too scared to walk downstairs now...hahaha...

Okay, this is weird...the storyteller looks like Taylor Lautner, Gary looks like Harry Potter, and Vink kind of looks like a shorter Hagrid...haha I love this show.

old theatres are the best, they have this magic to them you don't find in those from today.
