  • <3 MOrocco

  • This is Moroccan Gnawa and not Egyptian orchestra!!

  • I like the music, who cares if its egyptian or Gnawa Music!! Its the best song ever made!!

  • @jessefaily I do care, there is history behind Gnawa Music.

The Gnawa are people originated from North and West Africa; or the ancient Ghanaian Empire of Ouagadougou.

They were brought to Morocco as slaves and sold to the brits to be send to America. A small percentage of this community were given to Morocco's monarch.

There music has been mixed with the Amazighs or berbers of Morocco.

With the time it becames a part of the Sufi order in Morocco.

  • YES! This is Gnawa Music! No Egypt Ensemble here

  • these guys are eternal..

  • Plant's voice is superb on this number, and well Page can play anything!!!

  • plant has the voice of an old tired soul it just special

  • This is no egypt .. This is the one and only MOROCCO <3

  • I'm confused, there are no Gnawa in Egypt, and the little chorus was in pure Moroccan Gnawa language, not to mention the sound of Sentir. Where is the Egyptian effect here?

  • Morocco !

  • It is indeed in Marrakesh, Morocco with Gnawa ensemble. Part of the album No quarter

  • Im pretty sure this was with a Morrocain ensemble...hence them being in Marrakesh!!

  • this is morocco not egypt

  • I hear an oud but there's no, how does he make the guitar sound like an oud?

  • @iAmirx Isn't that guy between the two percussionists playing an oud? That's the sound you're talking about, I think, whatever he's playing. By the way, if you like Jimmy's Eastern influenced acoustic work, you might like a vid I just posted "Rosetta West - Yallah." All the best

  • @mielazul It doesn't look like an oud to me, unless it's a square oud with 3 strings and a very small neck :D

  • @iAmirx Yes this magic sound is "Santir' or "Hajhouj" proper instrument of Gnawa music,it's played by the man at the middle of Gnawa band.

  • @z3pp3linrox Gnawa IS a religious experience, my friend. Everything about it.

  • freaking brilliant!

  • beautiful. How can the world hate so much when something as beautiful as this can EXIST?

  • No quarter for anybody, they came and they took over our hearts and minds. And they will always be by our side and in our souls no matter what, because that's what good music does - "The song remains the same".

  • I was 28 when this came came out.im 44 almost 45 now.I just cant believe this many yrs have passed already since i watched this on mtv.can you believe mtv used to be this cool. now they have show like jersey shore, teen mom.its s shame that reality tv ruined shuch a unique and inovative channel

  • Thanks for posting this awesome vid. But this is not the Egyptian Ensemble and the London Metropolitan Orchestra, they are in Morocco (in Marrakesh more precisely) with Gnawa musicians.

  • just posted the same comments for each song, the studio work WAS done with the Egyptian Ensemble and the London Metropolitan Orchestra regardless of the video being displayed
