@jessefaily I do care, there is history behind Gnawa Music.
The Gnawa are people originated from North and West Africa; or the ancient Ghanaian Empire of Ouagadougou.
They were brought to Morocco as slaves and sold to the brits to be send to America. A small percentage of this community were given to Morocco's monarch.
There music has been mixed with the Amazighs or berbers of Morocco.
With the time it becames a part of the Sufi order in Morocco.
I'm confused, there are no Gnawa in Egypt, and the little chorus was in pure Moroccan Gnawa language, not to mention the sound of Sentir. Where is the Egyptian effect here?
@iAmirx Isn't that guy between the two percussionists playing an oud? That's the sound you're talking about, I think, whatever he's playing. By the way, if you like Jimmy's Eastern influenced acoustic work, you might like a vid I just posted "Rosetta West - Yallah." All the best
No quarter for anybody, they came and they took over our hearts and minds. And they will always be by our side and in our souls no matter what, because that's what good music does - "The song remains the same".
I was 28 when this came came out.im 44 almost 45 now.I just cant believe this many yrs have passed already since i watched this on mtv.can you believe mtv used to be this cool. now they have show like jersey shore, teen mom.its s shame that reality tv ruined shuch a unique and inovative channel
@smithdsmit oh man you are speaking to the chorus. I remember when Mtv was so amazing. I was thirteen going on 14 when this first came out. Now I am about to turn 30! Holy cow where did the time go?
i know why you feel it in your chest because this music is spiritual the sound of guembri goes inside your body and the man who plays guembri is maalem brahim elbelkani from marakach
Thanks for posting this awesome vid. But this is not the Egyptian Ensemble and the London Metropolitan Orchestra, they are in Morocco (in Marrakesh more precisely) with Gnawa musicians.
just posted the same comments for each song, the studio work WAS done with the Egyptian Ensemble and the London Metropolitan Orchestra regardless of the video being displayed
This is the solution

@mielazul It doesn't look like an oud to me, unless it's a square oud with 3 strings and a very small neck :D
