1.)Dr. Wendell O. Belfield, DVM, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, is leading the way in revolutionizing veterinary practises. He uses large doses sodium ascorbate therapy to treat distemper. The dose level was begun at one-half gram per pound of body weight(yes, that's correct) administered intravenously twice daily. With dosages this high, Dr. Belfield uses the sodium ascorbate form of Vitamin C as opposed to the ascorbic acid form.
2.) The intravenous preparations used were made from crystals to avoid sodium bisulphate, a preservative in the commercially available intravenous products, which can cause nerve problems when given at high dosages. He stressed that once this process was started NOT TO INTERRUPT IT FOR ANY REASON not even if the pet appeared to be feeling better or seemed fully recovered before the five days were up because he says "treatment broken off in the middle permits the virus to come back."
3.)For vets who want to read on Dr. W, O. Belfield's cure for distemper:

Thanks for the post. it is very inspiring. my jack russell has distemper and she has been fighting it for a month now. i dont know how long she can fight it. your video only bolstered my resolve not to give up..
My 4month pit bull is in the hospital trying to fight the distemper virus we didnt have the heart to put him to sleep im praying so much right now this story gives me more hope.
Thanks for posting. We found an English Pointer with distemper. We had to make the decision to help him fight or put him to sleep. I could tell too, that Gunner wanted to live so we chose to give him the chance. Lots of meeds, excellent food, vitamins and lots of love and he has survived. He is like a celebrity at the vet clinic. He had the heart to survive and we chose to honor his sweet heart. Gunner still has a way to go, but he is an amazing dog. We so hope to find him a great home.
Hi everyone. I am Angela from Malaysia. My puppy is having Canine Distemper. His name is Hugo. I am urgently seeking for Dr. Palmquist contact number please. Treatment in my country is very limited. Please help me. Hugo means so much to me. Please contact me via email swc.angela@yahoo.com. OR you could contact me at 006.010.8296.958. I don't know how else I can do for Hugo. He is still eating, drinking and playing with me. That got me a shock for a sick puppy having that spirit is remarkable.
That's a lovely story. We had 3 puppies. We live in Bangkok. They all had distemper when we bought them. We didn't know. After a month of hell 2 died. 1 quickly and 1 developed all the horrible symptoms. The other one has bounced back 100%. No sign of it now and the vet checked her out. It's gone. Symptoms were mild in here just like a cold. It's a terrible disease but some dogs can shake it off. Just luck.
Awwhh I've fallen in love with this dog as if he were actually my pet :') all I can say is congratulations this story just proves that people should never give up hope.. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for this insirational video! We found an abandond dog we call Karma who is about a year old and has distemper, she is twitching and weak as your dog was in this video and we have decided to take care of her and is currently trying to be nursed at the vet for a few more days then she is coming home and we are all in love with her and hope she will servive and have then wonderful life we so want to give her just as your dog now does, Please pray for our Karma! Thanks you!
What an encouraging video. I too have a possible distemper dog. I do have a question. All the vets told me that I should keep my other dogs away from him, even after he has come to a full recovery. But I saw your other dogs all playing with Jack, during and after the illness. Do you know if I can to that, too?
Thank You for posting this video. Our 4 month old puppy Daisy, who we adopeted from S. LA shelter 2 weeks ago was diagnosed with CDV and we were basically told by the vet she will need to be killed. We found your video and the made an appointment with Dr Palmquist, who treated your dog for the next day. If you are in So. Cal., I highly recomend Dr Palmquist if your dog has this. Dont believe the statistics, more dogs would survive this if they were given proper treatment and a fighting chance.
My 3 month old puppy was just diagnosed with distemper. I initially was thinking of putting her down, so that she wouldn't suffer anymore, but after watching your video, it gave me real hope that my Sammy has a chance for a good life. Thank you for that. :)
Oh yes, please let us know the supplements as well!
We also foster Peanut Butter from a shelter in South Central L.A. (outbreak warning everyone!) and I'm quite in love with my big pit mix baby. Survival stories like this boost my morale!
:( last night my dog was diagnosed w distemper, she had been to 4 vets within the past 2 weeks w no answer, last night she was too far gone and we had to let her go...
My family and I just adopted a yellow lab puppy last week from the shelter. Her previous owners did not feed her, as a result she is extremly underweight. I work for an animal ER, so I know the signs of distemper. So when Maxie started showing signs yesterday , we took her right in. The vet thinks she has distemper & so we are treating her as if she does. But we are NOT giving up on her. I love her so much, & your story inspires me. Thank u 4 posting, finally I am crying tears of joy!
I too have a dog that survived distemper, he is the joy of my life. You can find him playing on my youtube videos at Texas Ti Aussies. He is Crocket. He was removed from the care of the vet who wanted to put him down.
Did the dog have the nurological symptoms of Distemper? Was the diganosis of Distemper clinically confirmed with a proper test such as bladder wall cells under the microscope?
If not then I can tell you most likely it was not Distemper. About 3% of dogs survive Distmper wants the nurological stage has begun.

@ssepolio
Did you clincally test her for Distemper? Take a smear of bladder wall cells and look for virus inclusions under a microscope?
Because if it is not Distemper then you might be able to treat whatever it is - Could be lung herpies, could be a number of other things.
But you can not treat Distemper.
If she goes into the nurological phase of Distemper then she is done for. It is relentless and will not give up until she is dead.

What supplements did you provide Jack with ? Our puppy seems to have the disease, and we were told that all we can do is to boost her immune system.
