I was disappointed with this album, as well as with Oasis' 'Dig out your soul'. They both incorporated new sounds that kinda felt like techno type rock music. I'm NOT saying it's techno. Just compare this stuff with The Verve's earlier stuff upto 1997 and Oasis' with even their last album 'Don't believe the truth'. I hope these both bands are back to their proper, traditional rock roots with next albums. United Nations of Sound was still better than this half baked rock.

@pythonbyte Like most songs of Forth, it sounds much better live. Check out the 4music version. McCabe brings this song to life on the guitar. Sadly Chris Potter has surpressed McCabe and Jones' guitars since Urban Hymns having Ashcrofts vocals as the focal point for the music and plenty of Verve songs have suffered as a result. But yeah check out the 4music performance of Rather Be, it's miles better than this studio version.

He's more of a cunt. He chose to direct this video, on his own without asking the other band members, they weren't invited to be in the video and they were consulted on the decision for Ashcroft to direct and perform alone in it. Ashcroft is a grade A cunt and he's finished.

Nick wanted ANL and BPO on there to which Potter refused. You'll find that the other 3 members of the band didn't have much sway with decision making. Ashcroft demanded the same set list for their live performances because Ashcroft detests most of The Verve's earlier work from VEP and ASIH. Lucky Man is about wankin, listen to the lyrics you spaz LOL!

Rather Be isn't a Verve song it's a Richard Ashcroft song. Just because it bares the name "Verve" it doesn't change the fact that it sounds like an Ashcroft solo song. The fact that he directed this video by himself also proves that. It barely got any air time on TV or Radio either. They didn't promote it by singing it live after it's release either.

The sad fact is Verve disbanded not long after the release of Love Is Noise and they've barely been in contact with each other since.

Regarding the breakup, I pretty much figured this was a one-shot deal anyway. All of them pretty much said so long before Forth was released.

It would have been better had they stayed apart. Forth was a major letdown. It would have been better to go out at the absolute top of their game in 1998.

In the 90's the Verve for me were the best band that had ever walked the earth. The lyrics on a Northern Soul reached out to me like nothing before it. Although 'Forth' has some great moments it is mostly average - some things are better left alone - Sorry Richard and Co, but it's true.
