Thanks bellaboy44, In the early seventies I was sure that I wanted to be a herpetologist. I could cite chapter and verse on nearly any reptile species or amphibians. Alas, however, I found this area of study to be too narrow and my interests just too broad.(Even though I was only about 11-12 at the time!). Still, thank you for posting this. It took me back to my childhood when I had iguanas, all other manner of lizards, snakes, toads, frogs, you name it. Blessings upon you.

Very cool I just found your channel and enjoyed your videos a great deal. Great job! Becoming a herpetologist is just as hard as becoming a glamour photographer. There is a long waiting list just to volunteer to work for free in most zoological institutions. It’s a tough field to get into but if you are one of the lucky few it’s a dream job. Nursing is a more realistic choice and you’d be surprised a 3.6 GPA is easily accomplished if you apply yourself by really wanting it, best of luck!

Herpetology isnt all its cracked up to be. I was in costa rica tagging sea turtles for the university of Florida over part of the summer. To all those who say they want to be herpetologists: make sure you know what youre getting into. Bugs bugs bugs bugs, cuts, bruises (turtles have HUGE flippers), walking miles and miles each day at all hours of the day, no electricty, real showers, or clean water. Not all its cracked up to be.

any one who wants to know what an all rounded animal college course is like

lectures:

- Exotics (what it says on the box)

- Promote and understand animal health (health checks + cause's)

understand breed development (purebred dogs, reptile morphs, disorders)

- Animal handling and maintaining ( 4 hours of a week for cleaning and handling reptiles and or other animals)

- A level standard animal biology

-Petstore design (laws, regulations, designing)

-Animal accomadation (requirements ect)

I find it better to have on hand experience than formal education. Then again, I have no formal education.
