Today, I got a red card for asking the center to ask the sideline if the ball had crossed the goal line. He refused to even look at the side ref and brought out the red card because I asked three times. the center had the sun in his eyes and still refused to ask this side for help tells me that he is just there to make money or get a power trip. I use that example to teach my U-12 team how sometimes life is not fair and they should learn to move on. The ref should do the same.
Most rewarding games I have ever reffed are the special olympic games. I believe that is one of the only places in youth soccer to see the true spirit of the game.
Great and too the point. I have forwarded to locat High School Coaches who are going to forward it all of their players parents. It is really bad on the kids who are starting out as referees. They try their best but they make mistakes. Unfortunately, too many of the games that they do must be World Cup Qualifiying games according the the coaches/dads!
How do you kick out a spectator? You tell them to leave the area. If they do not, the game will be cancelled. Believe me, when the coaches and other parents hear that, that spectator will be gone with their help!
bathroomdealer - where do you think those guys in the Premier come from? Sure they get paid well to do what they do and are head to a higher standard, but does that mean fans should treat them and the weekend ref the same way? That's the message here.
Thank you! My dad was every game screaming with passion and even the referee thought it was fucking hilarious, and it really got us going, I remember scoring twice after a poor first half, you know why? Because my dad had fucking heart and he let me know about it!
The problem isn't the parents/coach/manager, it's the referee's not being trained properly in the modern game, we see so many fuck ups that cost teams points and it's about time we set some proper refereeing standards!
Because people will believe whatever their told, and an objective view is automatically labelled as wrong, such is the nature of sheep. Seriously, I don't know what I said that was wrong.
Yeah thats true. In the kids game where ref's give up their own time for a tenner, they definately deserve people's respect. That said however, i'm a season ticket at Blackpool where we often get Prem ref's and some of their decisions are truly shocking! These guys are on 50k+ and really should do better
I referee high school, college, youth and beginner games. Believe me, if referees only did if for the money, they would not do various levels. The games I do for free (and there are many) mean as much to me as do the ones that I get a small paycheck for. With the cost of being a referee (all the uniforms required, the various licenses, travel cost, etc., you are a fool if you only do this for the money.
Most of my refereeing is volunteer, unpaid. However, even those who get paid don't do it for the money. The exception is youth refs, for whom the money is real. But for me, it's almost insulting to get paid - it's less than 10% of what I get at a real job. I do it for the kids.
And even for someone who's doing it for the money - as they say in the video: "Would you take this at work?"

Bullshit. We all played football as kids and I remember hoping some irate parent would twat the ref. It was all part of the game's entertainment.

Volunteers do it because they want to, most pros only do it for the money
