  • the short legs are a ressesive genetic trait, like having blonde hair or blue eyes. There is nothing unnatural about it. It's a completly natrual genetic trait that some kittens are born with. My cat had a litter of kittens and hlaf truned out short like him. They are not deformed, and do not suffer from joint pain in later years. They are more intelligent and faster than normal cats too. They are also more healther than other breeds due to diverse breeding pools as well.

  • @pussyfootcollecta Thankyou. It seems like barely anyone knows about these breeds. I wish more people would take a moment to read about them before complaining. Best kind of cat Ive ever had. Amazingly smart and loving.

  • yea but they probably suffer from pain in their joints as they age... and ppl dont care about it, because dont matter if he suffers or not unless its cute... =/

    get a natural cat

  • @mmonnerat You said probably suffer. Please make sure before you start pointing fingers and making claims. I own a munchkin cat and he is very active, runs fast and jumps high, despite his age. Comparing him to some of the normal cats Ive had, he is actually healthier and much nicer. They do not have elongated bodies so they are actually just as healthy as normal cats, unlike dachshunds. Go ahead, read up.

  • @nEOspOr1n well i have a biology major, i didnt get into the munchkin cat specific study but every genetic engineered animal that ive studied or heard about it has some flaws or issues that just occurred because of the genetic engineering been focused on BEEN CUTE instead of the well-being of the animal... so most of this animals live less and has weaker health... i just used statistics here... i could study more about it, but i guess genetic engineering was not created to make cute things...

  • @mmonnerat Well Dr Solveig Pflueger seems to disagree with you and he's got a bit more than just a major in biology. So you dont have to do any hard research, go check out wikipedia's article on munchkin cats, particualarly the section on health and biology. Statistics fail you here. These cats actually have long healthly lives. Seems like only people who are ignorant to the domestic house cat's biology are holding on to the myth that they are unhealthy.

  • @mmonnerat If you want to harp on a breed that isn't healthy, go after the scottish folds. It is very common for them to have health issues that are from their genetics used to breed them. They are a case where breeders are recreating a cat that has proven problems for the sake of cute. I would stay away from dogs though. Much too large of a bone to pick bc almost every dog breed as some kind of inherent health issue produced in their specific breeds genetic code.

  • I think that my cats who are natures genetic choice r more cute...When I see this it just makes me sad that we live in a world where humans think more of the plasures of their eyes than of natural breeding which is the best way.

  • @Bendixensen There is no "natural breeding" with domesticated animals. Different types being combined with other types to raise chances of getting a larger emphasis on certain genetics has been in place for centuries. Why do you think that there are hundreds of types of dogs and cats? You didnt think that was "normal" did you?

  • i wonder what its like to be a munchkin cat

  • Probably not as cool as being a normal cat. It's a genetic desease. Dwarfism.

  • but they r so cute roflcopter

  • it's not a disease dude... I have one and it gets around just fine. I don't know why it is everyone can look at all the crazy breeds of dogs there are and not bat an eye, but get a cat that has short legs and its a disease.... the cats are fine

  • (=^,^=) cute......
