I assume that what you are comparing the prices are, as indeed in much similar specifications have not actually mine is a FirePro V4800 and comparing price / performance is even better than the Nvidia Quadro FX 1800 which costs $ 250 more. Likewise the other cards are ati professional series best price / performance. Nvidia has a higher price on all your cards Ati.
Pointless comparison, v5700 is 2 generations newer card from the same performance bracket.. I assure things would be quite different with e.g. FX1800, bah, even FX580. I also smell VBOs being active only in FirePro test, but maybe that's just me.
I run Catia on a 5 year old computer. It is worth less than $200. The software is about $25000. Management say they have no money in the budget for new computers. I have no chance of getting either of these graphics cards, lol
does this thing support in skectchup?before this i'm gamer card(gtx260)but it won't work for sketchup.so decide to use QUADRO FX570.but still not install to my PC.What ur comment for this thing?
Yes, these will work well in Maya. Look towards the FirePro V7750 ($600-$700 est.) or V8700 ($900-$1000 est.) if you can afford it. Google the benchmarks, they edge out the 4800 and are less expensive.
i seen geforce3 card in company pc's for this kind of work maybe movies & big video games studios use the latest, but not the typical mid rage places they usually cheap dont upgrade till it dont work anymore
I don't really understand AUTOCAD but I do know that I've had an ATI and an nVidia Graphics Card and ATI Drivers are waaay more stable and reliable then nVidia Drivers... At least from what I've seen...
LoL you just told the opposite! :) I'm not a Nvidia OR Ati fan.. i used the 9600 then i jumped to Nvidia 8800, they were both very good at their time, but I remember not even being able to install the Catalyst drivers sometimes when I had the Ati graphics cards.
well i just checked the specs on new egg and guess what the quadro fx 1700 is using pci express 1.0 x16 while the firepro v5700 is using pci express 2.0 other that that same specs just diff speed
You'd be an idiot to use a gaming card to do CAD work if it is your main practice/function/job. Yes, they will work, but gaming card were not designed for OpenGL work loads that CAD programs can dump on them.
i have the firepro v5700 in my work pc, and my gaming pc with exactly same spec but with 275GTX...i tried running a full detailed spec of a bridge on the 275gtx and i crashed megaly. firepro just took it like eating pie
That's right in so many ways... the best example I would choose... workstation cards are an investment... gaming cards are for your ass to entertain... so you get, dunno, emotional value back. :))
@MisterBaz1 what graphic card so if i do both things? like using sketchbook, inventor, solidworks, alias, showcase, catia, proE, 3dmax, maya, mudbox, motionbuilder. on a hp pavillion slimline S5200la with intel GMA3100 graphic card integrated on the mother. also what else should i upgrade likek processor, cooling system etc. ty for your fast response.
you can't expect videos about workstation GPUs to have more views because the number of CAD and DCC users don't even come close to the people interested in games, movies and such.
Fools, comparing workstation cards to gaming ones is like comparing a construction vehicle to a hot rod. They both have their purpose and use, but gaming cards lack bug free updates and also these cards can only emulate pipeline process. Workstation cards are built for precision whereas gaming cards are built for speed, like all hot rods they tend pass red lights and stop signs to get perfect fps. Unfortunately that is not what workstation cards are for, they render accuracy down to the detail.

what is "better" for people to play\watch a pc game, or watching\doing with these softwares for designing.. answer: gaming for sure. and for gaming - gf 9800gx2 is better.. ;)
for these who want a prove to the answer youtube is it ;) compare # of views ;)
Imagine running a game with these babies. Yet, I was wondering why didn't they showed the car side by side with the zoomed-in function. Beats seeing the Fire zoom in then later the Quadro to see differences in quality. For Jubran, it could be a FirePro V5800 or Quadro FX 1800 with a 9800GX2 label. XD
Maby they're not as good on gaming as a gaming card, because they're focused on 3d, video and design work, I've heard they're a bit different in architecture and the way they works.
@conodelamadreputa I have heard there is far less difference between the CAD and game cards than the manufacturer would like us to think and that the key differences are actually in the driver software.

I can't see which one is faster. One is handling a drivetrain, the other an entire spaceframe.

true, you can't compare a gaming card with these. Just not made for the same functions.
