What magazine did you see this in? To be honest, there isnt another coaster system out there that even comes close to the quality of this one. It even comes with software so you can ride it virtually on your computer and see the G-forces on your body!!
Guys- LIM's ain't gonna happen. Stick to rubber bands. LOL. I had to make a similar choice when my batteries ran out in my flashlight. I couldn't decide whether to replace them with new batteries or build a miniature cold fusion reactor. I decided to go with batteries because I didn't want to get electrocuted either. Good call.
It's night and day compared to Scorpion. I put this together in 3 hours and it works on the very FIRST run, I didnt even have to lubricate the wheels. It's very very easy to build.
Did you have to snap the rail into the cross ties like with the Scorpion. Thats one of the reasons I found the Scorpion so hard! Also, is all the track come pre- assembled?
You do have to snap the rails in, however the rails have been re-designed and it is MUCH easier to put on. I too have a Scorpion so I know your pain, but rest assured this kit is easy as pie (and pain free). You have to bold small track sections together, very similar to Roller Coaster Tycoon, however it too is super easy. The model just looks amazing in real life.

I havent built a Speed Coaster but I did build a Screaming Serpent (See my other vid). Took me 4.5hrs to build the K'nex and 3hrs to build the Phoenix. I think the video speaks for itself as well, the Phoenix is 10x cooler looking! After I built the Knex some of my friends laughed at me for "Playing with toys", but when they saw the Phoenix they were laying on the floor playing with it themselves!!
The model is about the same size as the scorpion, but uses mostly molded track (so it is not flexible). It is much easier to build and I think looks cooler!
