I love how all the dipshits talk about horsepower numbers and they have never even run the car, let alone tested it. Perhaps the guy should not have quoted 700HP, but I think you all are even worse by watching a 2 minute video and passing judgment.
Besides, its torque that moves you. I would not trash that car trying to bend it with power anyway...more than 400 horse in that car would be retarded anyway...it has not the chassis brakes or tire/suspension to handle it.
umm definitly not 700hp especially not without alluminum heads, but pushing at the max of around 450, clevo i just build sounds way tougher than that and looks better, with around 2.5k in just the block work (8K total) and its only producing 517hp...
I've been around and very successfully raced that FE engine for a long time. To make 500 HP with a 427 is realatively doable. 700HP is a whole nother thing and no way I will believe that one makes more then 500HP at best. You need 2 carbs practically to make 500HP with most setups. The heads don't flow all that well from stock specs. 500HP in a car that size & weight (3500 LBS approx) should run lo-mid 11's. Should! Brag 500+HP when you can pull the numbers down, OK? Thx
I have always thought that the Fairlane body of this time frame was one of Fords best. This one is very nice, although I would tone down the shifter & pedals, and maybe some different wheels. But that's just me. Can't argue about the engine.
How did they fit the big block in there? Mine had a 200cid straight six. 2 friends and I used to drive from Dallas to Padre Island for the weekend and sleep on the beach. We each needed $5 for gas for the 700 mile round trip.
Haha sleeper is a term used to describe a car that doesnt appear to seem fast from the outside...For example it doesnt have NOS stickers or a big ass spoiler lol
I'm not sure who set it at 8,000. I didn't take it that high for sure.
The engine was built to Nascar spec's, balanced, and was done when we got the car. Doesn't sound like it but really was Very Strong! The rear suspension was set up for hole shots and would lift the front end off the ground a little. Nitrous too.
@crazyfvck Most big blocks make most of ther power in the 2200- 5200 rpm range! small blocks 28-3200-6400 rpm range 8000 rpm with a big block?? not for long!..lol
@crazyfvck Yup i've been around plenty of big blocks turning 7-8000. Not always making power at that high end but still spinning none the less. Its a beautiful sound.
@crazyfvck It all has to do with rod ratio. The shorter the rod ratio, the higher the rev's. You can get a "stock" rebuild kit for a 460 with short rods and rev to the moon if you want. He says it's a 466 cid. That'd be a stock crank with +.030 pistons. If you tried to spin a stock 460 to 8000 rev's you'd spin every main in it unless you upgraded the oiling system.
@crazyfvck the FF 460 is good to 6500 rpm ( maybe 7000) with "Football' bolted truck rods and stock crank, properly balanced, correct forged piston, good valve train....anymore revs than that and ya gotta go all steel rods and crank...personally 6500 is plenty...anymore than that and all you are doing is slinging iron..
it is a 460 bored .030 over. i have the same in my pickup. funny though, mine sounds much stronger and i know it isnt even close to 500 hp. i like how the tach limiter is set near 8-grand. that made me laugh too.
when he shows the interior of the car, look at the tach. the little orange needle on the tach is close to 8000 rpm's. my 460 can safely hit 5000, but thats about it
For all you not upto speed muscleheads, it's not an FE big block! If you noticed this motor is a (466ci) 385 series 460 cube .060" over. It probably has 429 SCJ heads on it. 500+ hp would be real easy to make. Nice car...
A 500+ hp motor with an auto would have more lope to it. Need a wider power band to compensate for the auto, so more duration and overlap would be needed.
If it is truly a Cobra jet done right then he has a shot at being over 500. Keep in mind when you see a fairlane they also ran a 390 ford motor too. They aren't as uncommon as people think. To produce over 500 hundred I would expect to hear a larger cam as well. The car would be a good start.
Sounds like 400+hp to me. I don't get how you can list 700hp when you haven't dynoed it. Expecially when trying to sell it. My dad used to have a red Fairlane Fastback
@Soffex, unless the batt was low or starter was having problems, or very high compression, I have never seen a 400 hp 429-460 be that hard to turn over.
I had one but im dumb for getting rid of it mine was a 67 ford fairlane 500 with a 302 had a 289 in it but i bought it and found the piston shattered inside=\
I enjoyed your video, If you need help getting your video exposed i use a service at Tubeviews . Net They offer views, ratings, and comments. They helped my video get ranked on the first page
I almost have the motor done for my 1962 Ford Fairlane 500. 302 ford small block with gt40p heads with crane springs and a full three way valve job, weiand intake mainifold, holley 650, 7qt pan, and plenty of other goodies. will be a t5 5 speed car with a pro 5.0 short throw shifter. and a nine inch rear.
I'll give you $150.00 for It hell I even throw In My old 13 Inch television Its not just a television Its a color television that I got at Walmart Its much easer to carry around than My 32 Inch JVC & If that Is not enough I'll even through In one of My old 10,000 BTU Air conditioners the compressor don't work but It Sounds like It works I'll throw In some My old Microwave ovens I need to clean this place up.
I would like a car just like that.. I do the same thing here in Denmark, just on a much smaller scale (your U.S Muscle cars are expensive as hell here). But my VW Golf II, drives around with a CL badge at the back and a 2.0 Turbo engine from a Passat, exterior DOWN-Styled from 1.8 GTI to 1.6 CL... Its nice, I'll get a Vid together soon
ok it is a c code correct? thats a 289...it just looks kinda roomy for a sb car....if you didnt know the 390 cars had a few more inches between the shock towers then a 289 car
I've owned 2 comets, a '66 and a '67. Also between my Dad and myself we've owned 10 Fairlanes. Engine bays are the same on them. You can fit almost anything you want in there. One '67 Fairlane we still own (and drag race) was a 289 car that now has a 429. Tight fit but not bad. I love those cars. My first car was '67 Comet that I still own.
so the 66 and 67 fairlane i have arnt correct? one is 289 and the other 3902v....along side my dads 2 66's (one 289 and other 390gt/a) and 67 ragtop 3902v...they are different im telling you, the shock towers are slightly narrower then a sb car
Didn't I see that car for sale on Ebay? Dual plane intake and a 7700 rpm redline on the tach? Come on now... I hope it has at least 4 bolt mains with all that nitrous or you got a timebomb on your hands!
unless thats an fe motor which it isnt ford didnt make a 4 bolt main it dont sound like its got much of a lobe for 500 horse maybe with nitrous my 512 dynos at that and hardly idles i think you should quit guessing and as long as you build it right itll handle the nos
even if it was (it's not look at the intake, valve covers ect) the FEs didn't come with 4 bolt mains either they were all 2 bolt or crossbolted in the case of the 427s
Some HP Clevelands had 4 bolt mains and some 385 series 429s WERE Cobra Jets. They werent available in this car though. Yeah, this guy is obviously FOS.
He has the timing to far advanced, that's why she's not loping right, you can even tell by the way she hesitated to start, when he first tryed to start the engine...
whoever did the motor deserves awsome props. all wires hidden from sight (not tucked in corners) plus, if im not mistaken, the master cylinder inlet/outlet brake lines were painted white.
its a nice car, with a nice engine, but the nitrous will kill the motor...

Thanks, the car had a 200 hp nitrous set up to make those kind of numbers.
Also the rear suspension was toally set up along with a built 9" rear.
The engine was incredibly strong in the car but the numbers were given to us by the seller after he had it dyno'd
Anyway, she's long gone...
