No it doesn't. Toothpaste does NOT work. I did everything people told me to do. Get toothpaste with baking soda, rub from the center to the rim etc. it ADDED a whole new series of scratches. There are now OVER twice as many scratches on my disk thanks to the shitty toothpaste method.

put some toothpaste on the cd (the shiny side), take a microfiber towel (not your dirty socks) and rub over the surface of the disc until it is evenly spread. You may add some more to cover the whole disc. Then, let it dry for a couple of minutes and wash off the toothpaste with water (no hot water) then dry it again with a clean towel.

I didn't say microbuffer, I mean just a clean piece of cloth, preferably microfiber, so it doesn't add any scratches to the disc. And the toothpaste IS necessary because it serves as a kind of 'mild acid' here, good for polishing without damaging the disc at all. It's like using coke to clean chrome.

it depends what player your using, rubbing banana implants all the scratches with a clear wax, the bannana skin actually does a better job, the window cleaner polymerises it and it bonds to the plastic of the cd, although it does not always play as the new polmer has a different refraction index so if your disk player works by reading from a laser which operates at a slight gradient, the light will refract completely different resulting in invalid data
