This makes that rifle an SBR (short barreled rifle), and subject to very strict licensing and restrictions in the U.S., just like fully automatic weapons. I've seen tables full of captured guns after cartel arrests. Lots of soviet bloc weapons (like the ones shown on this video) including RPG-7's (rocket launchers). All are military issue. That fifty caliber "rifle" was an old Browning heavy machine gun....military purchase only, probably from Colombia. The vast majority of these weapons come from Colombia, El Salvador, Cuba, and Nicaragua. Most are left-overs from the Soviet supplied rebels from those nations. What red herring report!

@marcoshxc They have to be imported in the sport configuration then US manufacturers cut the reciever and reposition and replace the entire trigger group. Exceptions are pre 86 guns. Pre 86 are regular AKs just made without full auto trigger groups. With those you could just get a few parts but try and find one. You will pay out the nose for it. I had a pre 86 and had a hell of of a time finding a hammer spring because its diff from current US models. Pins and everything are in diff location.
@shananagans5 yeah, i have a saiga. it takes 3 hours to convert and move the trigger and trigger gaurd to fit a pistol grip. then you change the FCG then add a peice to make the gun full auto. the peice (plate) is activated when you put the saftey down one(full auto) and it pushes the catch holding the hammer down so the hammer can strike again without the catch holding the hammer back again. i have a saiga sporter(now converted) and an ATI milled ak47. non are full auto unfortunately due to law

@shananagans5 well, i cant say much, just bought it weeks ago. havent shot it. people say its more accurate than a ak47 type. it fits really comfortable in your hand and the parts are just high quality. nothing wiggles, no mag wobble and is cheap! $400 even(not including tax) for the 7.62x39. also the bolt hold back on it is awesome. and the fact that its an Imash factory made in russia.

At that time it was not clear what exactly was going to be allowed or required with number of US made parts ect. At that time no US parts were being made yet. @marcoshxc The Bushmaster is a good choice. Some people bash them because they are popular but they are great quality for a good price. I had one for yrs(A2 carbine) and put probably 10,000 rounds through it and never had a prob. I had to replace the bolt but that is to be expected after yrs of shooting nearly every weekend.

Why do you think the finish is so much better than a truly Russian manufactured gun? The 86 laws just made it VERY difficult to convert to full auto by requiring repositioning of the trigger group. ARs only need m16 parts but those parts are highly regulated. Its not worth the effort for the cartels when they simply go to illegal international dealers.

This makes that rifle an SBR (short barreled rifle), and subject to very strict licensing and restrictions in the U.S., just like fully automatic weapons. I've seen tables full of captured guns after cartel arrests. Lots of soviet bloc weapons (like the ones shown on this video) including RPG-7's (rocket launchers). All are military issue. That fifty caliber "rifle" was an old Browning heavy machine gun....military purchase only, probably from Colombia. @marcoshxc They have to be imported in the sport configuration then US manufacturers cut the reciever and reposition and replace the entire trigger group. Exceptions are pre 86 guns. Pre 86 are regular AKs just made without full auto trigger groups. With those you could just get a few parts but try and find one. You will pay out the nose for it. I had a pre 86 and had a hell of of a time finding a hammer spring because its diff from current US models. Pins and everything are in diff location.

@shananagans5 yeah, i have a saiga. it takes 3 hours to convert and move the trigger and trigger gaurd to fit a pistol grip. then you change the FCG then add a peice to make the gun full auto. the peice (plate) is activated when you put the saftey down one(full auto) and it pushes the catch holding the hammer down so the hammer can strike again without the catch holding the hammer back again. i have a saiga sporter(now converted) and an ATI milled ak47. non are full auto unfortunately due to law

@shananagans5 well, i cant say much, just bought it weeks ago. havent shot it. people say its more accurate than a ak47 type. it fits really comfortable in your hand and the parts are just high quality. nothing wiggles, no mag wobble and is cheap! $400 even(not including tax) for the 7.62x39. also the bolt hold back on it is awesome. and the fact that its an Imash factory made in russia.

At that time it was not clear what exactly was going to be allowed or required with number of US made parts ect. At that time no US parts were being made yet. It was mainly just confusing as to what was legal and I am a forensic psych. It would be stupid to lose my license over a misunderstanding of a law that was not yet well defined. LOL I just got a new AR.

I had one for yrs(A2 carbine) and put probably 10,000 rounds through it and never had a prob. I had to replace the bolt but that is to be expected after yrs of shooting nearly every weekend.

Why do you think the finish is so much better than a truly Russian manufactured gun? The 86 laws just made it VERY difficult to convert to full auto by requiring repositioning of the trigger group. ARs only need m16 parts but those parts are highly regulated. Its not worth the effort for the cartels when they simply go to illegal international dealers.

I love how they say these are U.S. weapons ( some are ) but then they show 40 MM grenades, belt feed machine guns, and fragment grenades. Funny I have not seen those at the Walmart gun counter? Actually, the Mexican cartels prefer military grade weapons ( fully automatics, grenades, RPG, etc ). The majority come from corrupt mexican officials selling guns, equador, cuba, defecting troops/police and russia/china. US pistols are purchase for their quality.

American citizens (that includes U.S. citizens AND Mexican citizens because we are ALL from the Americas, and therefore American) are facing the repercussions of the illicit drug trade. Addicts are in EVERY country NOT just the U.S.

The ignorance in this comment feed astounds me. This has nothing to do with Liberal vs Conservative. They are not trying to take away our gun rights. I myself am a conservative citizen of the U.S. The guns being seized have serial numbers on them that can be traced to the stores that they are sold in. The problem is that U.S. citizen without criminal records are legally buying guns and reselling them to individuals who smuggle them across the border.

If closing the border sounds good to you, because you think it'll stop illegal immigration do it, but is is not going to stop drugs. Addiction and Organized crime finds a way. Drug Cartels in Mexico, can easily be replaced by the Italian Mafias, Asian gangs in Canada, Colombian Cartels, Jewish mafia, Nigerian gangs.

Here in the states our liberty's are being taken away little by little I mean you can't even operate a car when you have to fasten your seatbelt. I use to vacation in Michoacan Mexico when i was in high school. I would go every year. I notice true freedom. over there the people are bigger than the government. here in the states the government is bigger than the people.
