This was Undertaker at his very peak, when he really looked sinister and intimidating,I know he is on his forties right now and for wrestling is not truly old by any means but he just doesnt create the same impact anymore like in his younger days.
@julius5551 I think he's better nowadays, he's really managed to perfect the omniscience he tries to bring to the ring when he enters, plus his age makes him scarier... But it's all down to personal preference :)
@DESPOILER101 Your last point sums it all up,I dont know you,but I have followed his career since his advent to the wwe(or f)and I always found that what made him so impactful aside from his appearance, was the gimmick of being impervious to pain,no matter what you hit him with he just would keep coming in true zombie movie fashion, back then it was a novelty, obviously after all these years that script would look old and tiresome.
i remember when i was little and watching this match while arguing with my mom about how de undertaker is really dead and how real de fights of WWF was.... thts how good it was back in those days....
@DANNYISHRANDOM i respect your opinion that you think batista is a better wrestler than john cena, but i would have to disagree because in MY opinion they both suck and youre right that the attitude era was probably the best in the wwe history.
@DANNYISHRANDOM the attitude era was indeed great. But IMO, this era was the best. You should watch wm 7 as an example of how great this era was. Machoman vs Warrior had such a good build up, storyline (that even picked up after), and drama that left the audience in tears.
this was when i watched wrestling i watched wrestling fro mwhen i was 1 in 1988 all the way to wm19 2003 what years did you guys watch wrestling from?
this era was the best. You had crazy gimmicks from Hogan, warrior, Jake the snake, machoman, old-school undertaker, and bret. this was when wrestling was known as a sport and not a pop-soap opera.
@cisco19 I couldnt agree with you more, today you really cant tell the difference between one wrestler and the next, I mean somehow, macho man Sean Michael Jake Roberts Undertaker and so on, were great on becoming great names and main eventers,, nowadays I can barely watch 5minutes of it and bores the hell out of me, even the announcing staff is nothing like it was was Gorilla Monsoon, heenan and even Tazz for the most part, thats why I love seeing the vintage clips on Youtube
@jukedar Wrestling during the hulkamania had more drama and connection with the wrestlers. I remember WM8, where Machoman vs Warrior happened. Macho was the heel, but when the match ended, people where crying in tears due to the reuniting of Macho and Elizabeth. Then we had undertaker and hogan, and all them super hero like guys.
@cisco19 yes I specifically remember that match, thats when macho man was being managed by sensationsl sherri, and at the end of the match she ditched him: christ dude this is scary to say, 3 of these people are dead.
@jukedar Sherri and macho man. whos the 3rd one thats dead. I dont remember hearing anything about either Paul Bearer or Jake Roberts dying unless i missed it
@ENTERTAINMENT35 oh no, Paul bearer and Jake are alive, it was Ms Elizabeth who overdosed on drugs, at the time she was living with Lex Lugar who you heard absolutely nothing about anymore once this happened
@Cyberpunk747 jake was the best heel. During the time he fueded with Machoman he made a combra bite the arm of macho man., he made the entire audience hysterical.. not jsut crying in tears and yelling for the officials and piper to get machoman out, but he actually caused some of the to call 911 during that infamous segment,
@azarazar007 he looked like a undead, grim reaper, unlike today's undertaker...if that undertaker debuted in today's time all the kids would get fucked and all the superstars lol
I forgot the reason in the storyline for Undertaker turning face. I know he saved Macho Man and Elizabeth from getting jumped by jake, but why? If Paul and the Undertaker did explain it I missed it.
@ramennoodlechef They never really did explain why. I guess Undertaker had a change of heart when he saw Roberts go after Miss Elizabeth so many times dating back to the November 1991 Tuesday in Texas PPV.
Randy Orton is very comparible to jake roberts. I would go so far as to say he is a modern day version of jake the snake roberts. would anyuone agree?
Jake is probally one of the best interviewers ever. Even as a face he had such an angry intensity, he was great in this stint as a hell, I wish it would of went on longer.
As for his drug addiction it was bad thus leading to all of the internet rumors I know he was so far gone in 2004 he let his snake starve to death (they wanted to press charges). WWE has been wanting to induct him in HOF but probally just want to be sure he will show up clean
This is my fave undertaker anyone who prefers him now or when he was the american badass needs to be shot..
Induct jake roberts in the HOF and he is the best on the mic.
Black sunday is how you described it snake roberts its your day of wreckoning as we enter the 11th hour you must come face to face with reality the reality of death at the hands of the reaper jake roberts prepare to meet your end...
@JohnACorp782 No, because Jake the Snake did too much stupid shit in his career. Like telling his bosses at the last minute that he wasn't going to do a match unless they gave him Cocaine.
was the undertaker interview promo part of the colisuem home video or live PPV broadcast version bc it wasnt on my 1998 wrestlemania legacy VHS box set or the 2005 wrestlemania DVD anthology box set
If Jake the snake roberts fought stone cold steve austin at their repsective primes (jake 1990 and stone cold 1998) the promo for that match would be frighteningly good. The match i dare say would be very good as well.
when he reunited with paul bearer, in the ministry, he would just toss the tag team belt to bearer, like he didnt care. i think that the early undertaker seemed to be afraid of bearer, kind of like if he didnt perform well or what bearer told him to do, then he would send him back where he came from.
I was there and let me tell you one of the best times I had. Also that place may look big on screen but when you are there it is HUGE! That Dome has sinced been destroyed but I tell you when Hogan came out that night and the Ultimate Warrior returned to close out the show with Hogan, that place was unbelievably loud especially in person as opposed to just watching on tv.
@ The Happy Knot - 'Taker's been in the WWF/E since before WrestleMania 7. His WM debut was a win over an old and out-of-shape Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka in 1991. This match is the ending of a feud the two had after Jake wanted to attack Miss Elizabeth after her "wedding" to Randy "Macho Man" Savage at SummerSlam '91. Roberts was hiding behind a curtain with a chair ready to strike Liz as she was walking back to the locker room, and Taker took the chair away.
While most wrestlers of that day shouted their interviews, Jake's understated approach was refreshingly cold and believable. Looking back, he was underappreciated.
@bainsey89 Very underappreciated. Watch his DVD. You'll get plenty of insight on Jake. He should've at least been given a chance to be Intercontinental champ. See, this is what Mcmahon does to his wrestlers. He uses them while they're in their primes and once he see's you slowing down, he gets rid of you or has you job for the new guys to get a name and leave the legend with nothing to show for it. The only title I know that Jake has actually won was the NWA TV title before he was in WWF.
i really didnt appreciate jake the snake enough when i was younger, the man is pure class....mcmahon said there was never a wrestler who charactor was so similar to him self in real life.....scary thoughts........absolute legend
why in the blue hell is jake robets not in the hall of fame? sure, he did not win any championships but he invented the move that EVERY wrestler uses, the DDT. (and that's more then that birdiot Koko ever did. Can someone please explain to me why Koko is even in the H O F to begin with?
To be honest with you, I think that he's so popular that he could never be turned heel again. He's WWE's biggest face by far. His last heel run was about 8 years ago, and it lasted all of six months!
For Orton, the situation will probably become the reverse.
i am from canada and we have a show on tsn called off the record. the undertaker was on there and said when he tombstoned jake at the end of the match he shit himself. he also said it was so hard not to puke infront of all those people. true story.
i remember at the end of every one of the undertaker's interview, he says rest in pieces, i totally miss that, if Randy Orton meet this undertaker, its would be light out for Randy,
I was there at Wrestlemania 8 at the RCA Dome (aka Hoosier Dome). I was twelve years old when I went to Wrestlemania 8 at my home town of Indianapolis, Indiana.
It is not Vince's fault that Jake isn't in the WWE. Sure you want to give the fans what they want but with the problems that Jake faces (i.e. the drug and alcohol problems) it wouldn't be the best decision for the fans and the company.
Jake Roberts was (and still is in my opinion) one of the best in ring psychologists of all time, and it REALLY pissed me off how this guy never got a WWE title run. I hope to god one day this guy gets inducted into the WWE hall of fame, but vinces head is so far up his ass that he wont allow it!
Jake once said that he would've liked to have been champion. He'd have liked the money that came with it and to be able say "I was WWE Champion" but he feels that he didn't need it to prove himself.
of course if vince saw this today, im sure he would have said okay lets keep snake around. especially if he sees what is around today. im sure this interview with undertaker is after the actual match itself lol.
agreed. I heard Vince WANTED Jake back later (he wrote the Goldust/Ahmed Johnson angle) but the drug and alcohol problem was more dominant at the time. I 'd think if the "cards were right" that when Jake got cleaned up, and the situation called for it, if Vince got him....MAN that would be good enough for me to start watching again! I'd have Jake as head writer....maybe the PG stuff might hold him back though.
i agree, jake definitely had a creative mind, the storyline when he pretended to form an alliance with the ultimate warrior only to lock warrior in a room with snakes proved this...
Too bad that Taker had to burry Jake Roberts. That promo is awesome. You can actually believe that Roberts enjoyed nailing the Undertaker.

easily one of my favourite wrestlemanias, i watch it often on dreary saturday afternoons, because it reminds me of when wrestling was good..

Two of my favorite wrestlers. Jake's promo's and Undertaker's gimmick AND entrances. So sad that WWE can't produce Legends like these anymore.

3:41=RIP Jake sign held by Old Lady
3:58= "The Reaper Comes" held by another Old Lady
I just find that kind of funny...You'd expect these signs to be sported by teenagers.

the undertaker should never ever be a heel again thats just my opinion and am sticking to it.
salsancheznumber1fan 2 years ago
To be honest with you, I think that he's so popular that he could never be turned heel again. He's WWE's biggest face by far. His last heel run was about 8 years ago, and it lasted all of six months!
For Orton, the situation will probably become the reverse.

I love Jake Roberts voice, he's so calm and collected during his promos. Even when he yells it's almost like he's not yelling

i am from canada and we have a show on tsn called off the record. the undertaker was on there and said when he tombstoned jake at the end of the match he shit himself. he also said it was so hard not to puke infront of all those people. true story.

i remember at the end of every one of the undertaker's interview, he says rest in pieces, i totally miss that, if Randy Orton meet this undertaker, its would be light out for Randy,

I hope to god one day this guy gets inducted into the WWE hall of fame, but vinces head is so far up his ass that he wont allow it!
superrobz 2 years ago 9
Jake once said that he would've liked to have been champion. He'd have liked the money that came with it and to be able say "I was WWE Champion" but he feels that he didn't need it to prove himself.
PeterBluth 2 years ago 3
of course if vince saw this today, im sure he would have said okay lets keep snake around. especially if he sees what is around today. im sure this interview with undertaker is after the actual match itself lol.
astrotex 2 years ago 2
I'd have Jake as head writer....maybe the PG stuff might hold him back though.
lucheloco420 2 years ago
i agree, jake definitely had a creative mind, the storyline when he pretended to form an alliance with the ultimate warrior only to lock warrior in a room with snakes proved this...
domirules28 2 years ago
this match was boring, but it served it's purpose by legitimizing the undertaker as the man
