Why is it when people have a bad experience with a black person/people the whole black race have to pay for it. But when someone have a bad experience with a white person/people it was just a bad experience with that particular person. It is called a lack of respect for Black men which everyone in American society fall prey to. We have got to earn respect. While others just get when they walk in the door. It is ok to date outside of your race. But be very careful when you start to elevate another race above another. From what I heard, Zeric used to be heavy in the club & ballroom scene. So it sounds like he has a hard time meeting black/latinos who are not connected to him by a few degrees due to him already being a household name in the scene. Lastly, the ironic part is that everything he's saying about other guys is probably what many black/latino men can say about him. Being a model, he knows a LOT of people and I'm sure he is very flirtatious when he socializes. He already admitted to being a "playboy."
So basically, he just said that ALL black and latino gay men are too much on the gay scene, are not monogamous, and are gossiping queens. And he bases this belief on the fact that this is all he's experienced with black and latino men in the past 10 years.
Maybe what he should have said is that there's something not right in his own character and integrity because he liked to hang around and socialize with negative people and ugly characters for the past 10 years. He's so insecure, it shows.
also..when your in the gay social circles for a while it does start to seem like everybody knows everybody or has had sex with somebody you know etc etc..so finding a parter within a very small social scene who has not been "around" or seen is rare..so i kinda get why zeric made the choice he made to go OUTSIDE of the scene to bring a lil privacy to his life...and lets be real the black gay scene does get messy @ times...of course not all but for some folk it has been messy..

Somewhere, he feels inadequate for being part of that scene so therefore he looks for somebody who is out of that scene. It's "easier" for him for look for that in a white man. However, he could easily find that in a black or latin man. My thing is this, you date who you choose to date. There is no need for some convoluted explanation for why you are with a white dude. If you like it, then you like it.

From what I heard, Zeric used to be heavy in the club & ballroom scene. So it sounds like he has a hard time meeting black/latinos who are not connected to him by a few degrees due to him already being a household name in the scene. Lastly, the ironic part is that everything he's saying about other guys is probably what many black/latino men can say about him. Somewhere, he feels inadequate for being part of that scene so therefore he looks for somebody who is out of that scene. It's "easier" for him for look for that in a white man. Ummm...I have a question. He has been in a relationship for six years to an Italian guy and he also refuses to date Black and Hispanic men. If that's the case, who was his "Shawty" that he introduced on Model City at that party on the first episode?

Prefering someone because of personal traits they tend to be more common amongs them or people of their persuasio as opposed to your own is completelyy different from "I dont like being black. I dont like black men. I hate my skin". It just that certain races have certain common issues(tendecies/struggles) that not everyone can deal with.

MORE FEEDBACK I'VE RECEIVED: I understan what hes saying. Basically cultural/racial/regional differences. A lot of people assume because someone may prefer a person of certain heritage that "Oh you hate yourself and you hate being black and yadayadayada...". But thats not really the case.

didnt he say he came out in atl. so he came here where all the beautiful black boys are to let the world know who he is and to get our approval and then diss us. His explanation was lacking, he is dating the white dude because he is being taken care of and he's broke. and lastly he just doesnt want to have to compete or be worried about keeping his man..and i hate to admit it but when we are with other black/latino dudes somebody is always vying for their attention and may get it!!!

As usual my bro' great interview - if the person you are in 'a relationship' with, is of another race, ethnicity, or culture - what matter as the great MLK says 'judge that person on the content of their character not the colour of their skin, [ or whether they are from Africa, are of Jewish ethnicity/culture, or are catholic or baptist or democrat or republican] that doesn't matter!! You are person of grace and integrity, bro' - but respect, understanding and love is where it's at, for real!

Black men belong to ALL socioeconomic demographics and MANY subcultures. I appreciate Zeric's candor but I'm curious to know what many of his black male supporters think about his assertion. Thank You Lonnell for this interview and providing him the opportunity to expound on his statement.

Zeric's justification of why he doesn't date black men was disturbingly phrased. It is a harsh generalization to claim that ALL black men are a part of 'the scene'. It is comprehensible why men engage in interracial relationships/interactions; the experience is truly enriching and adventurous. However, dating mishaps within your own ethnicity may be best remedied by changing the environment where such interactions are initiated rather than scapegoating your own ethnicity...

He really gave good talk. I loved what he said about loving his friends and then letting himself be loved. Him opening up about his insecurities was very refreshing. I really liked model city when it was on. Seeing black male models and the reality of the business was great. Hope he has much continued success in the biz.

Cool interview, though i don't agree with his racial quota explanation, it comes off very generalized and ignorant. You can't just generalized an entire race of men(Black gay men) based on your experiences. Gay relationship drama/issues isn't exclusive to black gay community. Plus he keep saying he's open minded, but will not date a black guy, sounds very contradictory.
