@TheCromo17 This was with a 1000W 48V Golden Motor rear hub motor, being fed by 4 series 18AH SLA's in bad shape. The controller shunt was modified to achieve around 50-60A current off the battery. LOL... you should try a stronger motor, like 5 kWatts or so; then go, sit on the bike, pull the front brake first, then the throttle, and let it go, go, go!! :D
@Wochensau It takes at least 10kW before you can do rolling burnouts. It may not look that impressive, but this bike itself was 112lbs with the lead batteries. There was a good 80lbs over the rear tire just from the bike itself, which is why it smoked fairly well. Im putting LiPo on it now, should save about 50+ lbs...
@staver76 Yeah, this was 48V of Lead Acid near its death. The bike now has 88.8V of LiPo (More like 100V off the charger). Heres a video of my friends bike at 99% throttle. The new controllers are capable of 120% throttle and the tire spins about 16% faster, and smokes like crazy. watch?v=anpHgkhuaMM
@staver76 The bike did about 26 MPH on 48V. This is actually a 'slow' motor. Most e-bikes on 48V do in the 29-32 MPH range. Controller was modded, but it was for more power on the low end. Theres no good way to increase top end speed without more voltage. The bike now does about 41 MPH unassisted on 99% throttle, and the new controller is set up with a 3 position switch that allows for 120% 'overdrive' that gets the bike up to about 47-48 MPH unassisted. VERY inefficiently, however.
@EricsiPhone Is this a YXM kit? If so I will be getting one, did you have to over volt it to get 41 mph? Do you think 60v will not "burn out" this motor?
@staver76 This was a Golden Motor 48V 1000W Kit. The kit you receive will determine what you can do to it. Generally, never expect to go much over the rated voltage. Voltage = Speed, Current = Power. You can modify essentially any controller to put out generally about 2-3x the rated current without much doing. And it will be nearly directly 2-3x faster acceleration. Top end speed on a 48V 1000W kit, 26" wheel is generally around 28 MPH. 40 MPH+ takes a new controller or replaced FET's + 72+V....
@EricsiPhone Hmm, but I have seen another utuber, skeetab5780, who is running a 72v battery pack on a 48v chinese (presumably xym motor) and the only problems he gets are after 5 miles, which is why I am thinking of over volting just to 60v. I just hope its safe
@staver76 It depends entirely on the MOSFET's and capacitors inside the controller. Most of the time they are rated for 75V and 72V respectively. If you run 76V into most 48V controllers, they WILL fail. 72V is 'nominal' voltage. My 88.8V pack peaks at 100.8V (4.2V/cell x 24s)... 62V is PROBABLY fine into a 48V controller. At 72V it MIGHT handle it, but you would absolutely want to adjust the LVC resistors to protect the drivers. Its not as simple as it may appear if you want it to be reliable.
