yellyist shut the f*k up and realize security for important people, that is needed for the government to function, is not a bad thing. Sweden isn't the greatest country in the world.
five months later.. don't even remember what people were arguing about. Guess i pissed of some guys by saying sweden isn't the greatest county in the world.
Diktatur under kommunistisk flagga existerar ja.
Fascism under kommunistisk flagg, ja.
@fejkhippiecharlie Where was his security. If somebody had done anything like this to the president of the united states they would have been arrested by the secret service.
@Yellyist And that is why we don't want to live in America! "Oh, someone throws a tomato at the prime minister of that time. He should be arrested for that awful crime." Notice the irony?
@Weirdestrockerever You`re not supposed to be able to throw anything at a president or a prime minister. What if it was a bomb?? That`s why they have security. They even killed one of your prime ministers. I`m sure you don`t want that to happen again.
There's a difference between a swedish prime minister in the mid 90's and an American president 2011. Obama has a lot more threats and is responsible for a whole lot more than what Carl Bildt was in the 90's.
@jwillborg Olof Palme was killed in the 80`s.. Come on! There`s always some crazy bastards out there! I think it`s outrages that someone was able to throw something at the swedish prime minister. It could have been a bomb, or a stone or something. His security detail wasn`t paying attention!
Olof Palme was a different thing, he was a very controversial figure and the murder was, for all we know, well planned. Due to our neutrality, Sweden has enjoyed a sense of private freedom even for politcians. This goes on even in the 90's, and only recently, after the murder of our foreign minister Anna Lindh in 2003, we've started having bodyguards for our politicians, since obviously two murdered politicians are two too many, and I'm a heavy Palme-critic.
@jwillborg There`s been two political assassinations in Sweden, and that`s two too many. I think Palme was killed by a crazy drunk, and your foreign minister was killed by a crazy immigrant. There will always be people like Christer Petterson who wants to kill politicians, and security is there to keep the politicians safe. In this video the security didn`t do their job. Somebody were able to attack the prime minister and i think that`s outrages!
Yep, that's exactly what I said. I disagree with your theory on Palme, I think there's much more to it than that, but we do not have the full answer even today. In this video I actually think there was no real security, I think you've misunderstood how Sweden works in relation the US, especially in the past. Politicians had no threats against them except in very specific cases, Sweden is a pretty small and insignificant country after all.
@jwillborg I know a lot about Sweden, cause my parents are norwegians and we spend each summer in Norway. I know that the situation is different in Sweden than over here in the U.S. But one dead prime minister is one too many. That`s why i think it`s outrages that somebody was able to attack the swedish prime minister just a couple of years after Palme was assassinated!
@jwillborg Sweden changed after Palmes`s assassination. The change was proved when your foreign minister was assassinated. Sweden has got a lot of dangerous elements. There`s a lot of hate in Sweden. You have a nazi party in your parliment, and you have too many immigrants. Your foreign minister was even killed by a immigrant. I think Norway is a much safer country than Sweden. The norwegian prime minister is protected but he`s the only politician in Norway who`s got police protection.
Not really, there was 15 years in between the incidents, so I don't really get your point there. I don't think there's more hate in Sweden than in other countries, and no, we certainly do not have a nazi party in our parlament, we have a party that wants to limit immigration, which as you say has been very high the past decade. I can't really speak for Norway but I'd definitely say Sweden is a relatively safe country.
@jwillborg I`ve seen pictures of SD in nazi uniforms, and i think it`s outrages that they are represented in the parliment. My grandfather was killed by the nazis. They invaded Norway and terrorized Norway for five years. My grandmother used to tell me all about it. Nazis are hated in Norway even to this day. Even though i`m born and raised here in the U.S.,i love Norway and consider it to be my second home.I`m first and foremost an american of course, but i love Norway. It`s a beautiful country
I agree with you, Norway is great and the best scandinavian neighbour we could ever ask for. However, you should read up more about SD probably, you can say a lot of things about them, but they're not nazis. Hell, they're way too Israel-friendly for my taste. I can't see how you think it's outrageous that they are represented in the parliament if you say we have too many immigrants in Sweden, that's a contradiction in itself.
@jwillborg As i said i don`t know too much about SD other than what i`ve been told by my swedish friends, and they tell me that SD used to be a nazi party. They were really upset when SD won last years election. One swedish friend of mine showed me a picture of a SD member in a nazi uniform, and told me that they had been elected into the swedish parliment.
*Used* to be based around racist movements in the 80's or so, yeah. I've never heard of such pictures, and you should probably read up on them. They want to lower immigration levels to our neighbour Finland for example, is that really nazism to your friends?
@jwillborg Well i`ve seen the pictures. I don`t know too much about SD, other than that they`re the most conservative party in Sweden. I`ve been a liberal democrat all my life, so i guess i don`t agree with SD`s agenda. Too much immigration is bad, and i read somewhere that you have 1 million immigrants or something. That`s too many for a country like Sweden.
I would say they are about as conservative as the christian democrats. I don't understand how you on the one hand "don't agree with their agenda" and on the other you think we have too many immigrants. They're not nazis, read up on them, and you probably saw pictures of members who have since been excluded from the party.
@jwillborg Immigration is not a liberal or a conservative agenda. Both democrats and republicans wants to control our borders. There`s too many illegal aliens here, especially from Mexico. Immigration is not a good thing at all. It`s expensive, and dangerous to our national security. The same goes for Sweden. You should control your borders.
Immigration is a good thing, especially for Sweden who needs it, problem is that our immigration has been very poor the past decades, and consisted more of people who need help than people who contribute, putting the welfare state at risk. I think it's funny though, to me it sounds like you would have voted for SD based on your opinion really, except for FP there aren't any parties that push the immigration question as an active one.
@jwillborg I don`t see immigration as a good thing at all. People should stay in their own countries. That`s where they`re needed. I wouldn`t have voted for a racist party, cause i`m not a racist. My view on immigration has nothing to do with race. I just want to protect my country. i think Islam is a dangerous religion, and i don`t want them to take over my country through immigration which is what they`re doing in Europe now. Look at France or Denmark. It`s a mess over there. Sweden too.
We need immigration as we're in need of more people to achieve more things, and since we don't have as many children being born anymore. SD has nothing to do with race either really, they're very sceptical towards muslims and they want to heavily limit immigration to Sweden from far eastern countries, to levels such as Finlands for example. How is that racist? I didn't vote for them, but your opinions are based off photos I've never heard of, and I do think you should reconsider.
@jwillborg I`ve always considered myself a lefty. I`ve voted for Clinton and Obama and i consider myself to be a liberal democrat. I`m for gay rights, and pro-choice. I don`t know too much about Sweden politics, i know a little bit about Norway, and they have a labour govnerment now. You`ve probably heard about their prime minister Jens Stoltenberg, and i like him. He`s a good man.
I've heard vaguely about him, but I am by no means any expert on norwegian politics. What you *must* keep in mind is that a party considered right/far right in Sweden will be considered left/middle by american standards. Obama is by some americans (allegedly mostly republicans) called a communist, yet he's probably more right than our current "right wing" (by swedish standards) government. There is a big difference between american and european political parties.
@jwillborg I guess Norway and Sweden are pretty alike politically, with the exception of security. Norwegian politicians are less protected than yours are in Sweden. The prime minister is the only norwegian politician with police protection. It`s true that people call Obama a communist and a socialist. Well, look at Europe. You`re doing pretty fine aren`t you? You have free health care and less poverty than we do. Our country is a mess compared to Europe. So socialism doesn`t really scare me!
Only the top politicians in Sweden are specifically protected by the police, I'd say the top 5 or so, and of course there are bodyguards at bigger events. Norwegian politicians haven't been as controversial as for example Palme, who had upset a number of people, not just in Sweden but abroad as well. I'd say America/EU are good in different ways, and neither of us are perfect. Socialism definitely has its flaws, and at the end of the day, the grass is greener on the other side.
@jwillborg I think socialism is good, but i can`t stand communism. I heard that Olof Palme was a communist, and that he worked for the soviet union. Is that true? My father told me yesterday that there`s a huge difference between Norway and Sweden politically. The labor party in Sweden wanted to govern with a communist party. That could never have happened in Norway according to my dad. The norwegian labor party are probably more conservative than the swedish labor party.
I think once again your sources don't really give you both sides of the coin. Olof Palme was a socialist, but he wasn't a communist, and there's no real evidence that he worked with the Soviet Union. I'm assuming your dad is refering to the latest election, where S cooperated with V. And while V is a very left-wing party, they aren't communists, their partyleader only recently said that he was no longer a communist, but both he and their party have roots in communistic movements.
@jwillborg But V used to be communists, so dad wasn`t totally wrong. Crazy left-wingers are crazy in my opinion, they`re just as bad as crazy right-wingers. I llike to stay in the middle. I`m conservative on some issues and liberal on others, espcially on social issues. The norwegian prime minister is according to my dad very moderate. Well, dad liked Olof Palme. He had charisma, and was a very good public speaker.
Yes they used to be communists, but this was 30-40 years ago, and to me that's sort of irrelevant then, and I'm a strong opposer of socialism and left politics today. One should never assume things in politics, for example our liberal party is probably the party with the most suggestions of limitation and forbidding various things. I still vote for them however as they tackle the schools the best; a school is the most fundamental part of a society, to me.
@jwillborg One thing that swedish politicians is missing is charisma. I saw your prime minister on youtube, and he was boring as hell.Olof Palme was very charismatic, but they killed him. Charisma is very important over here. Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan,John F. Kennedy and Barack Obama had the little extra. The x-factor. They`re very charismatic, and excellent public speakers.That`s important in Norway too. The norwegian prime minister is very charismatic. Would you vote for a boring politician?
You're mentioning the best presidents you've had though (save for Clinton who I don't like), you've had some pretty boring politicians as well, and perhaps we shouldn't even speak about Sarah Palin's charisma. Charisma is important because democracy is flawed: you're likely to vote for a good-looking president or if you'd watch an NFL-game with him rather than what he/she stands for.
@jwillborg I loved Clinton. He was great in my opinion. He reduced the national debt, and created a surplus. The economy was great when Clinton was president. Sarah Palin is charismatic, but she`s a crazy right-winger. I would love to see her run against president Obama in 2012, cause Obama is going to crush her. She should go back to Alaska and stay there! Charisma is important.The last "boring" president we had was Gerald Ford, and he wasn`t elected in the first place. He did a good job though
What you also must remember is that in "the old days", public speeches were much more common. Obama's campaign and to some extent his current precidency is the first time in a long time that speeches have been made like before, and even so, much less people watch them these days. The same goes for Reinfeldt, who by no means is a fierce speaker, there's no real need for it at the moment because people would rather do something else than listen to politicians.
@jwillborg How is your current prime minister doing? Is he popular and well liked despite of his lack of charisma? I understand that he was re-elected last year. How is Sweden holding up? The global economy is lousy, and Europe has a lot of problems. Greece, Portugal and Ireland are almost broke. It`s a big achievement to be re-elected in times like these.
Since social democracy has ruled the country almost without exceptions the past 70 years, of course he's not gonna be liked by all of the people, but a lot of people think he's doing a good job, and objectively you'd have to say that as well. He's getting critisism for being too harsh on the sick people, but he's lowering taxes and bolstering the economy together with his much appreciated minister of finance Anders Borg. It is my understanding that Sweden is doing well in comparison.
@jwillborg How is your unemployment rate? Ours is 10%. President Obama is getting a lot of heat because of the high unemployment rate and the weak economy. Why is he harsh on sick people??
I'm not sure what the latest numbers are, it's probably around 5-8% if nothing major has changed. We're having problems with a lot of companies not finding it beneficial to remain in Sweden anymore, due to the social democracy's horrible promotion of companies. Concerning unemployment, the biggest problem is the youth unemployment, which is at around 25%.
In social democratic Sweden, both swedes and immigrants used the system since it was very forgiving to sick people, and so the new government put a lot of discipline measures regarding that, but it's ending up hurting the people who are sick for real too. But overall, I'm quite happy with "The Alliance" as they call themselves, and I'm excited to see if their school policy will make our school as good as Finlands, which has been a rolemodel in the restructuring of the swedish school.
@jwillborg That sounds like something the republicans would do over here. They always go after the less fortunate, and i don`t like it. I`ve always cared about the little man, and that`s why i`m a democrat. We have to look after the less fortunate. If a norwegian prime minister had done the same thing to the sick, he would have been kicked out of office pretty soon. My dad told me that Sweden wasn`t doing very well. The unemployment rate is almost 10 %,and a lot of Swedes come to Norway for work
It's needed, as the swedish people have become very lazy during social democratic rule in the 90's, and as a result I have no faith left in modern socialism, and there's a reason why the social democrats have dropped lots lately. The Prime minister wrote a book about it called "The sleeping people" where he projects this, this was long before he was elected however. To be honest I think your dad seems very biased in everything. The reason people go to Norway for work is because
@jwillborg They wanted to abolish the monarchy?? Well. if the swedish king are as popular in Sweden as the norwegian king are in Norway i guess the labor party in Sweden has a problem. The Swedish labor party should look to Norway and their prime minister for inspiratiojn. He was re-elected and he`s doing a very good job. The unemployment rate is only at 3-4% and the economy is very good. The Swedish labor party should find another Palme, cause he knew how to win elections
norwegian salaries are ridiculously high compared to swedish ones. Sweden is commonly known as one of the countries that handled the financial crisis the best, much thanks to our government.
@jwillborg But if it`s true that your unemployment rate are as high as 10% something must be wrong. The unemployment rate in Norway is only 3-4%. The huge unemployment is a big issue over here. It`s on the news everyday, and if president Obama doesn`t fix it, he`ll lose the next election. I`m sure you`re govnerment will be in deep shit if the unemployment rate is as high next election.
The unemployment rate in Sweden is 7%, which I don't think is shockingly high. I doubt it mainly for one reason: There's no better alternative, and people know it. Social democracy as Sweden knows it is dying, the only alternative is a new one. The new social democratic leader hasn't exactly made himself popular by declaring that he wants to raise the fueltax and abolish the monarchy.
The swedish monarchy is too popular for it to be a good suggestion, either way. Our scandinavian neighbours are doing a lot of good stuff, in my eyes we should be a lot more like Finland for example. I definitely don't want another Palme, he wanted a socialistic dictatorship, more or less, and I don't consider him a loss for the country, even though my pity of course goes out to his family.
@jwillbor I don`t know anything about Finland. They`re not even a part of Scandinavia. I liked Palme as a politician. Well, at least the Swedish people had an option. they could kick him out of office if they didn`t like him, but they didn`t. He prime minister for almost 11 years,Palme was a major figure. They even knew him over here. He was famous, and he knew how to win elections. I think the assassination was horrible. It shouldn`t have happend.
Not technically but they're very much a Nordic country, and that's what counts. Palme was heavily disliked by a lot of people, that's part of the reason why there's so many suspects for his murder. I'm glad the era of social democracy has come to an end in Sweden, I say good riddance.
@jwillborg I thought Norway looked to Sweden and Denmark, and Sweden to Norway and Denmark since it`s Scandinavia. Norwegians usually ignore Finland. I don`t know to much about swedish politics, but dad is pretty happy with the norwegian labor party, and it`s leaders. But as i said they`re pretty moderate. They support the monarchy, and they want to restrict immigration which is an important issue for the norwegians. The Muslims wants to take over Europe, and they`ve almost succeeded in France.
Not necessairly, Sweden is close to all of the countries, and used to be the same country as Finland for over 400 years, after all. France has always been a center of decay and I'm not surprised. For me, the biggest inspirational sources for politics should be Germany and Finland.
@jwillborg Well Germany is doing very well. I don`t know anything about Finland. I always thought Sweden and Norway where extremely close, but maybe i was wrong. Germans are not popular in Norway because of the war. They invaded Norway, and many norwegias can`t stand Germans even to this day because of the war.
We're close, but not close enough that we affect each others domestic politics. There were quite far gone plans for an invasion of Sweden during the war as well, but that was never needed in the end.
@jwillborg Well you`re a part of the European Union, Norway isn`t, You`re not a member of NATO, Norway is, so i guess there`s a difference. Sweden and Finland are probably more alike than Norway and Sweden. You kind of speak the same language as well. How do you like the European Union?
@Yellyist Finland and Sweden? Hardly, finnish is very difficult to understand since it's not related to the germanic languages at all. I think it's a naive project, for both good and bad. Too much power is given to Brussels, in my opinion, and the EU is run too much by politically idiot countries (France, Italy) when it should be lead by the UK and Germany. That's all I have to say about it really.
@jwillborg Ok. i know that Norway is not a part of EU, and nobody in Norway wants to join either. I belive that Europe had an ambition to create their own USA in Europe, and they failed. You have to struggle with weak countries like Greece, Ireland, Portugal, and Italy too. They`re all in deep shit finacially, and i don`t think they will recover. But why aren`t you a part of NATO?? Everybody else is a member.
Eh, not really, Europe can never be as unified as a country like the US since we have too many wars and troubles in the past, cultural differences and so on. There is little support for joining NATO here, I don't want to either. We're not neutral but we're alliance-free, it's a very sensitive subject for swedes, we do not want to be controlled by anyone, and most people strongly disagree with the US and NATO foreign policies.
@jwillborg I`m pretty sure Norway would have been invaded by the Soviet Union if it hadn`t been for NATO. Why do you have a problem with our foreign policy, i thought Sweden was our friend?
We were just as interesting to the soviets, and we managed to probably avoid an attack without being a member of NATO. Most swedes don't like the american view of the world as something that needs policing, that you're mostly waging war in the middle-east thanks to private interests and oil, and so on. Depends what you mean by friend, I would not say we are your allies.
@jwillborg Well, Bush was a horrible president and pretty arrogant. The Iraq war was a disaster. I think Bush finished us off worldwide. The world used to love America under Clinton. That changed when Bush stole the 2000-election. President Obama has restored some of the damage, but it`s still a long way to go.
None of the people I know particularly liked Clinton, they thought he was too scandalous and careless, presidents like Regan and Kennedy were like that, but I hardly agree Clinton was "as liked" by foreign countries. I've always said when people were cheering for Obama that "don't get your hopes up", and it has proved to be quite right. Obama's main problem is that he's all talk, he promised to withdraw the troops before he won, and has since increased the number.
@jwillborg I liked Clinton. I think he did very well, especially with the economy. So what if Lewinsky gave him a blow job in the oval office. I don`t care. People seem to forget how the republicans treated him. They went after him from day one and did their best to sabotage his agenda. They were so pissed cause he beat a incumbent republican president. Republicans are what`s wrong with America. Donald Trump is running as a republican, and his agenda is crazy.
@Yellyist I read some of ur chatt and actually atm the social democrats and its "allies" is raising in popularity while the other part is failing.. the christdemocrats is under 4% (hope they dont make it in next election as I dont like relgion in politics)
but atm social democrats is bigger than the moderats... hope socail democrats win next election because If moderats is staying as the winners then sweden will slowly turn into USA and that sucks :(
@fosho437 Well, i hated the direction Bush took us too. Donald Trump is running for president with a crazy agenda where he wants to go into Libya and Iraq and steal their oil. The republicans has done a lot of damage to our country. I don`t agree on the critisism on President Obama. I think he`s doing well. He took over under very difficult circumstances. On Sweden and your govnerment. Well, look to Norway. They`re doing fine and they have a socialist govnerment. They`re doing better than Sweden
@Yellyist wait you american thought you were norwegian lol xD
Well what I said is a socialist as "president" is better than a "republican" :P but dont forget they got oil thats what they are making lots of money on :)
If obama lose the next election he is welcome to take over sweden bcz obama is awsm :D
@fosho437 I have norwegian parents, but i`m born and raised in the U.S. we speak norwegian at home, and we follow norwegian news so i`m pretty updated on what`s going on in Norway. Obama will win. The reps doesn`t stand a chance against president Obama. You probably know that Donald Trump is running for president now. I would love to see him up against president Obama.
@jwillborg I don`t know to much about Sweden. But the fact is that two leading politicians has been assassinated. There has never been political assassinations in Norway, and the only norwegian politician with police protection is the prime minister. The situation in Sweden is different. Every leading swedish politician has got police protection.. You have a problem with right wing hooligans, and too much immigration.
@Yellyist Yeah, but it wasn't a bomb. And that (emphasis on that) is the mindset of the Swedish people. I understand that you see it differently because you were raised in America, but can you see it from my point of view too? In my eyes, it is only a tomato. I don't find throwing a tomato on Carl Bildt to be a sufficient reason for the secret service (SÄPO) to arrest them. I kinda wish it was a bomb... J/K
@Weirdestrockerever I disagree. It`s important to protect politicians. They have a important job to do, and they have security for a reason. There are too many nuts out there who are willing to kill and harm politicians. Olof Palme was killed, and that was a tragedy. It should never have happened!
@Yellyist Of course the murder of Palme never should have happened. But he was walking from a theatre when he got shot. There aren't that many murders of Swedish politicians. 2 in fact; 2 awesome ones. But a tomato thrown at Carl Bildt?! Any kid could have done that. I don't think that the police could have talked to that person, but not having the secret police arrest them! That is way too extreme! Like I said before, there is a difference between Sweden and the US. (And Palme was shot in -86.)
@Weirdestrockerever I would never throw anything at a head of state. It`s rude and inappropriate, escpecially after the death of a swedish prime minister. He knew that he would be arrested if he did, and that didn`t keep him from attacking the swedish prime minister. I don`t support behaviour like that at all. If you don`t like a politician you can vote him out.
@Yellyist I definetily agree with you - if you don't like a politician, vote him or her out instead. I definetliy think that for Carl Bildt to say: "Who was that cowardous?" was spot on. However, I do not think that violence is the way to treat people who does this kind of thing. This was a stupid act. Stupid, but harmless. This can be dealt with in a more peaceful manner than involving SÄPO. I mean, it's SÄPO ffs! You don't involve them unless it's about murder or something. Come off it!
@Weirdestrockerever There`s no reason to feel sorry for him, cause i`m sure he knew that he would get into trouble when he did what he did. If you wanna play, you have to pay. It`s as simple as that. I don`t know what sapo is?? But i`m sure he knew that he had it coming before he attacked the prime minister.
HAHA! Det här gjorde min dag.

orchfader 1 year ago

@Yellyist
There's a difference between a swedish prime minister in the mid 90's and an American president 2011. Obama has a lot more threats and is responsible for a whole lot more than what Carl Bildt was in the 90's.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg Olof Palme was killed in the 80`s.. Come on! There`s always some crazy bastards out there! I think it`s outrages that someone was able to throw something at the swedish prime minister. It could have been a bomb, or a stone or something. His security detail wasn`t paying attention!
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
Olof Palme was a different thing, he was a very controversial figure and the murder was, for all we know, well planned. Due to our neutrality, Sweden has enjoyed a sense of private freedom even for politcians. This goes on even in the 90's, and only recently, after the murder of our foreign minister Anna Lindh in 2003, we've started having bodyguards for our politicians, since obviously two murdered politicians are two too many, and I'm a heavy Palme-critic.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg There`s been two political assassinations in Sweden, and that`s two too many. I think Palme was killed by a crazy drunk, and your foreign minister was killed by a crazy immigrant. There will always be people like Christer Petterson who wants to kill politicians, and security is there to keep the politicians safe. In this video the security didn`t do their job. Somebody were able to attack the prime minister and i think that`s outrages!
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
Yep, that's exactly what I said. I disagree with your theory on Palme, I think there's much more to it than that, but we do not have the full answer even today. In this video I actually think there was no real security, I think you've misunderstood how Sweden works in relation the US, especially in the past. Politicians had no threats against them except in very specific cases, Sweden is a pretty small and insignificant country after all.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg I know a lot about Sweden, cause my parents are norwegians and we spend each summer in Norway. I know that the situation is different in Sweden than over here in the U.S. But one dead prime minister is one too many. That`s why i think it`s outrages that somebody was able to attack the swedish prime minister just a couple of years after Palme was assassinated!
Yellyist 9 months ago
@jwillborg Sweden changed after Palmes`s assassination. The change was proved when your foreign minister was assassinated. Sweden has got a lot of dangerous elements. There`s a lot of hate in Sweden. You have a nazi party in your parliment, and you have too many immigrants. Your foreign minister was even killed by a immigrant. I think Norway is a much safer country than Sweden. The norwegian prime minister is protected but he`s the only politician in Norway who`s got police protection.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
Not really, there was 15 years in between the incidents, so I don't really get your point there. I don't think there's more hate in Sweden than in other countries, and no, we certainly do not have a nazi party in our parlament, we have a party that wants to limit immigration, which as you say has been very high the past decade. I can't really speak for Norway but I'd definitely say Sweden is a relatively safe country.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg I`ve seen pictures of SD in nazi uniforms, and i think it`s outrages that they are represented in the parliment. My grandfather was killed by the nazis. They invaded Norway and terrorized Norway for five years. My grandmother used to tell me all about it. Nazis are hated in Norway even to this day. Even though i`m born and raised here in the U.S.,i love Norway and consider it to be my second home.I`m first and foremost an american of course, but i love Norway. It`s a beautiful country
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
I agree with you, Norway is great and the best scandinavian neighbour we could ever ask for. However, you should read up more about SD probably, you can say a lot of things about them, but they're not nazis. Hell, they're way too Israel-friendly for my taste. I can't see how you think it's outrageous that they are represented in the parliament if you say we have too many immigrants in Sweden, that's a contradiction in itself.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg As i said i don`t know too much about SD other than what i`ve been told by my swedish friends, and they tell me that SD used to be a nazi party. They were really upset when SD won last years election. One swedish friend of mine showed me a picture of a SD member in a nazi uniform, and told me that they had been elected into the swedish parliment.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
*Used* to be based around racist movements in the 80's or so, yeah. I've never heard of such pictures, and you should probably read up on them. They want to lower immigration levels to our neighbour Finland for example, is that really nazism to your friends?
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg Well i`ve seen the pictures. I don`t know too much about SD, other than that they`re the most conservative party in Sweden. I`ve been a liberal democrat all my life, so i guess i don`t agree with SD`s agenda. Too much immigration is bad, and i read somewhere that you have 1 million immigrants or something. That`s too many for a country like Sweden.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
I would say they are about as conservative as the christian democrats. I don't understand how you on the one hand "don't agree with their agenda" and on the other you think we have too many immigrants. They're not nazis, read up on them, and you probably saw pictures of members who have since been excluded from the party.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg Immigration is not a liberal or a conservative agenda. Both democrats and republicans wants to control our borders. There`s too many illegal aliens here, especially from Mexico. Immigration is not a good thing at all. It`s expensive, and dangerous to our national security. The same goes for Sweden. You should control your borders.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
Immigration is a good thing, especially for Sweden who needs it, problem is that our immigration has been very poor the past decades, and consisted more of people who need help than people who contribute, putting the welfare state at risk. I think it's funny though, to me it sounds like you would have voted for SD based on your opinion really, except for FP there aren't any parties that push the immigration question as an active one.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg I don`t see immigration as a good thing at all. People should stay in their own countries. That`s where they`re needed. I wouldn`t have voted for a racist party, cause i`m not a racist. My view on immigration has nothing to do with race. I just want to protect my country. i think Islam is a dangerous religion, and i don`t want them to take over my country through immigration which is what they`re doing in Europe now. Look at France or Denmark. It`s a mess over there. Sweden too.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
I didn't vote for them, but your opinions are based off photos I've never heard of, and I do think you should reconsider.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg I`ve always considered myself a lefty. I`ve voted for Clinton and Obama and i consider myself to be a liberal democrat. I`m for gay rights, and pro-choice. I don`t know too much about Sweden politics, i know a little bit about Norway, and they have a labour govnerment now. You`ve probably heard about their prime minister Jens Stoltenberg, and i like him. He`s a good man.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist

Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
Socialism definitely has its flaws, and at the end of the day, the grass is greener on the other side.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg I think socialism is good, but i can`t stand communism. I heard that Olof Palme was a communist, and that he worked for the soviet union. Is that true? My father told me yesterday that there`s a huge difference between Norway and Sweden politically. The labor party in Sweden wanted to govern with a communist party. That could never have happened in Norway according to my dad. The norwegian labor party are probably more conservative than the swedish labor party.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
I think once again your sources don't really give you both sides of the coin. Olof Palme was a socialist, but he wasn't a communist, and there's no real evidence that he worked with the Soviet Union. I'm assuming your dad is refering to the latest election, where S cooperated with V. And while V is a very left-wing party, they aren't communists, their partyleader only recently said that he was no longer a communist, but both he and their party have roots in communistic movements.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg But V used to be communists, so dad wasn`t totally wrong. Crazy left-wingers are crazy in my opinion, they`re just as bad as crazy right-wingers. I llike to stay in the middle. I`m conservative on some issues and liberal on others, espcially on social issues. The norwegian prime minister is according to my dad very moderate. Well, dad liked Olof Palme. He had charisma, and was a very good public speaker.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
Yes they used to be communists, but this was 30-40 years ago, and to me that's sort of irrelevant then, and I'm a strong opposer of socialism and left politics today. One should never assume things in politics, for example our liberal party is probably the party with the most suggestions of limitation and forbidding various things. I still vote for them however as they tackle the schools the best; a school is the most fundamental part of a society, to me.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg One thing that swedish politicians is missing is charisma. I saw your prime minister on youtube, and he was boring as hell.Olof Palme was very charismatic, but they killed him. Charisma is very important over here. Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan,John F. Kennedy and Barack Obama had the little extra. The x-factor. They`re very charismatic, and excellent public speakers.That`s important in Norway too. The norwegian prime minister is very charismatic. Would you vote for a boring politician?
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
You're mentioning the best presidents you've had though (save for Clinton who I don't like), you've had some pretty boring politicians as well, and perhaps we shouldn't even speak about Sarah Palin's charisma. Charisma is important because democracy is flawed: you're likely to vote for a good-looking president or if you'd watch an NFL-game with him rather than what he/she stands for.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg I loved Clinton. He was great in my opinion. He reduced the national debt, and created a surplus. The economy was great when Clinton was president. Sarah Palin is charismatic, but she`s a crazy right-winger. I would love to see her run against president Obama in 2012, cause Obama is going to crush her. She should go back to Alaska and stay there! Charisma is important.The last "boring" president we had was Gerald Ford, and he wasn`t elected in the first place. He did a good job though
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
What you also must remember is that in "the old days", public speeches were much more common. Obama's campaign and to some extent his current precidency is the first time in a long time that speeches have been made like before, and even so, much less people watch them these days. The same goes for Reinfeldt, who by no means is a fierce speaker, there's no real need for it at the moment because people would rather do something else than listen to politicians.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg How is your current prime minister doing? Is he popular and well liked despite of his lack of charisma? I understand that he was re-elected last year. How is Sweden holding up? The global economy is lousy, and Europe has a lot of problems. Greece, Portugal and Ireland are almost broke. It`s a big achievement to be re-elected in times like these.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
It is my understanding that Sweden is doing well in comparison.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg How is your unemployment rate? Ours is 10%. President Obama is getting a lot of heat because of the high unemployment rate and the weak economy. Why is he harsh on sick people??
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
I'm not sure what the latest numbers are, it's probably around 5-8% if nothing major has changed. We're having problems with a lot of companies not finding it beneficial to remain in Sweden anymore, due to the social democracy's horrible promotion of companies. Concerning unemployment, the biggest problem is the youth unemployment, which is at around 25%.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg No, my dad isn`t biast at all. He loves Sweden. He wants Sweden to do well.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
In social democratic Sweden, both swedes and immigrants used the system since it was very forgiving to sick people, and so the new government put a lot of discipline measures regarding that, but it's ending up hurting the people who are sick for real too. But overall, I'm quite happy with "The Alliance" as they call themselves, and I'm excited to see if their school policy will make our school as good as Finlands, which has been a rolemodel in the restructuring of the swedish school.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg That sounds like something the republicans would do over here. They always go after the less fortunate, and i don`t like it. I`ve always cared about the little man, and that`s why i`m a democrat. We have to look after the less fortunate. If a norwegian prime minister had done the same thing to the sick, he would have been kicked out of office pretty soon. My dad told me that Sweden wasn`t doing very well. The unemployment rate is almost 10 %,and a lot of Swedes come to Norway for work
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
The reason people go to Norway for work is because
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg They wanted to abolish the monarchy?? Well. if the swedish king are as popular in Sweden as the norwegian king are in Norway i guess the labor party in Sweden has a problem. The Swedish labor party should look to Norway and their prime minister for inspiratiojn. He was re-elected and he`s doing a very good job. The unemployment rate is only at 3-4% and the economy is very good. The Swedish labor party should find another Palme, cause he knew how to win elections
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
norwegian salaries are ridiculously high compared to swedish ones. Sweden is commonly known as one of the countries that handled the financial crisis the best, much thanks to our government.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg But if it`s true that your unemployment rate are as high as 10% something must be wrong. The unemployment rate in Norway is only 3-4%. The huge unemployment is a big issue over here. It`s on the news everyday, and if president Obama doesn`t fix it, he`ll lose the next election. I`m sure you`re govnerment will be in deep shit if the unemployment rate is as high next election.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist

@Yellyist
The swedish monarchy is too popular for it to be a good suggestion, either way. Our scandinavian neighbours are doing a lot of good stuff, in my eyes we should be a lot more like Finland for example. I definitely don't want another Palme, he wanted a socialistic dictatorship, more or less, and I don't consider him a loss for the country, even though my pity of course goes out to his family.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillbor I don`t know anything about Finland. They`re not even a part of Scandinavia. I liked Palme as a politician. Well, at least the Swedish people had an option. they could kick him out of office if they didn`t like him, but they didn`t. He prime minister for almost 11 years,Palme was a major figure. They even knew him over here. He was famous, and he knew how to win elections. I think the assassination was horrible. It shouldn`t have happend.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
Not technically but they're very much a Nordic country, and that's what counts. Palme was heavily disliked by a lot of people, that's part of the reason why there's so many suspects for his murder. I'm glad the era of social democracy has come to an end in Sweden, I say good riddance.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg I thought Norway looked to Sweden and Denmark, and Sweden to Norway and Denmark since it`s Scandinavia. Norwegians usually ignore Finland. I don`t know to much about swedish politics, but dad is pretty happy with the norwegian labor party, and it`s leaders. But as i said they`re pretty moderate. They support the monarchy, and they want to restrict immigration which is an important issue for the norwegians. The Muslims wants to take over Europe, and they`ve almost succeeded in France.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
Not necessairly, Sweden is close to all of the countries, and used to be the same country as Finland for over 400 years, after all. France has always been a center of decay and I'm not surprised. For me, the biggest inspirational sources for politics should be Germany and Finland.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg Well Germany is doing very well. I don`t know anything about Finland. I always thought Sweden and Norway where extremely close, but maybe i was wrong. Germans are not popular in Norway because of the war. They invaded Norway, and many norwegias can`t stand Germans even to this day because of the war.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
We're close, but not close enough that we affect each others domestic politics. There were quite far gone plans for an invasion of Sweden during the war as well, but that was never needed in the end.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg Well you`re a part of the European Union, Norway isn`t, You`re not a member of NATO, Norway is, so i guess there`s a difference. Sweden and Finland are probably more alike than Norway and Sweden. You kind of speak the same language as well. How do you like the European Union?
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist Finland and Sweden? Hardly, finnish is very difficult to understand since it's not related to the germanic languages at all. I think it's a naive project, for both good and bad. Too much power is given to Brussels, in my opinion, and the EU is run too much by politically idiot countries (France, Italy) when it should be lead by the UK and Germany. That's all I have to say about it really.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg Ok. i know that Norway is not a part of EU, and nobody in Norway wants to join either. I belive that Europe had an ambition to create their own USA in Europe, and they failed. You have to struggle with weak countries like Greece, Ireland, Portugal, and Italy too. They`re all in deep shit finacially, and i don`t think they will recover. But why aren`t you a part of NATO?? Everybody else is a member.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
Eh, not really, Europe can never be as unified as a country like the US since we have too many wars and troubles in the past, cultural differences and so on. There is little support for joining NATO here, I don't want to either. We're not neutral but we're alliance-free, it's a very sensitive subject for swedes, we do not want to be controlled by anyone, and most people strongly disagree with the US and NATO foreign policies.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg I`m pretty sure Norway would have been invaded by the Soviet Union if it hadn`t been for NATO. Why do you have a problem with our foreign policy, i thought Sweden was our friend?
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
We were just as interesting to the soviets, and we managed to probably avoid an attack without being a member of NATO. Most swedes don't like the american view of the world as something that needs policing, that you're mostly waging war in the middle-east thanks to private interests and oil, and so on. Depends what you mean by friend, I would not say we are your allies.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg Well, Bush was a horrible president and pretty arrogant. The Iraq war was a disaster. I think Bush finished us off worldwide. The world used to love America under Clinton. That changed when Bush stole the 2000-election. President Obama has restored some of the damage, but it`s still a long way to go.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist
Obama's main problem is that he's all talk, he promised to withdraw the troops before he won, and has since increased the number.
jwillborg 9 months ago
@jwillborg I liked Clinton. I think he did very well, especially with the economy. So what if Lewinsky gave him a blow job in the oval office. I don`t care. People seem to forget how the republicans treated him. They went after him from day one and did their best to sabotage his agenda. They were so pissed cause he beat a incumbent republican president. Republicans are what`s wrong with America. Donald Trump is running as a republican, and his agenda is crazy.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist I read some of ur chatt and actually atm the social democrats and its "allies" is raising in popularity while the other part is failing.. the christdemocrats is under 4% (hope they dont make it in next election as I dont like relgion in politics)
but atm social democrats is bigger than the moderats... hope socail democrats win next election because If moderats is staying as the winners then sweden will slowly turn into USA and that sucks :(
fosho437 9 months ago
@fosho437 Well, i hated the direction Bush took us too. Donald Trump is running for president with a crazy agenda where he wants to go into Libya and Iraq and steal their oil. The republicans has done a lot of damage to our country. I don`t agree on the critisism on President Obama. I think he`s doing well. He took over under very difficult circumstances. On Sweden and your govnerment. Well, look to Norway. They`re doing fine and they have a socialist govnerment. They`re doing better than Sweden
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist wait you american thought you were norwegian lol xD
Well what I said is a socialist as "president" is better than a "republican" :P but dont forget they got oil thats what they are making lots of money on :)
If obama lose the next election he is welcome to take over sweden bcz obama is awsm :D
fosho437 9 months ago
@fosho437 I have norwegian parents, but i`m born and raised in the U.S. we speak norwegian at home, and we follow norwegian news so i`m pretty updated on what`s going on in Norway. Obama will win. The reps doesn`t stand a chance against president Obama. You probably know that Donald Trump is running for president now. I would love to see him up against president Obama.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@jwillborg I don`t know to much about Sweden. But the fact is that two leading politicians has been assassinated. There has never been political assassinations in Norway, and the only norwegian politician with police protection is the prime minister. The situation in Sweden is different. Every leading swedish politician has got police protection.. You have a problem with right wing hooligans, and too much immigration.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist Yeah, but it wasn't a bomb. And that (emphasis on that) is the mindset of the Swedish people. I understand that you see it differently because you were raised in America, but can you see it from my point of view too? In my eyes, it is only a tomato. I don't find throwing a tomato on Carl Bildt to be a sufficient reason for the secret service (SÄPO) to arrest them. I kinda wish it was a bomb... J/K
Weirdestrockerever 9 months ago
@Weirdestrockerever I disagree. It`s important to protect politicians. They have a important job to do, and they have security for a reason. There are too many nuts out there who are willing to kill and harm politicians. Olof Palme was killed, and that was a tragedy. It should never have happened!
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist Of course the murder of Palme never should have happened. But he was walking from a theatre when he got shot. There aren't that many murders of Swedish politicians. 2 in fact; 2 awesome ones. But a tomato thrown at Carl Bildt?! Any kid could have done that. I don't think that the police could have talked to that person, but not having the secret police arrest them! That is way too extreme! Like I said before, there is a difference between Sweden and the US. (And Palme was shot in -86.)
Weirdestrockerever 9 months ago
@Weirdestrockerever I would never throw anything at a head of state. It`s rude and inappropriate, escpecially after the death of a swedish prime minister. He knew that he would be arrested if he did, and that didn`t keep him from attacking the swedish prime minister. I don`t support behaviour like that at all. If you don`t like a politician you can vote him out.
Yellyist 9 months ago
@Yellyist I definetily agree with you - if you don't like a politician, vote him or her out instead. I definetliy think that for Carl Bildt to say: "Who was that cowardous?" was spot on. However, I do not think that violence is the way to treat people who does this kind of thing. This was a stupid act. Stupid, but harmless. This can be dealt with in a more peaceful manner than involving SÄPO. I mean, it's SÄPO ffs! You don't involve them unless it's about murder or something. Come off it!
Weirdestrockerever 9 months ago
@Weirdestrockerever There`s no reason to feel sorry for him, cause i`m sure he knew that he would get into trouble when he did what he did. If you wanna play, you have to pay. It`s as simple as that. I don`t know what sapo is?? But i`m sure he knew that he had it coming before he attacked the prime minister.
