Use sharp scissors and it will be lots easier. Also, I find that laying the tapes together overlapping them and then cutting a diagonal cut before taping them together works so much better. Tape on the dull side of the tape, one side only. Good luck!
You're having a hard time cutting the tape because you have adhesive residue on the scissor blades which grabs the tape. You need to clean your scissors first.
Hey evreyone I am trying to find a way to fix my Aahh Real Monsters VHS it has streched to hard is there a way to fix it please give an awser and reply?.
i have 1 of the small VHS-C, back in the 90s that my grandad gave me now this is very important to me as this is the only copy and will never get it again, the only problem is the reel has snapped in 1 place. can u transfer the reels to a normal size vhs case? once iv repaired it please help
@patricknedz no probs iv sorted it mate, i just took the small camcorder VHS-C and took a normal sized VHS apart and just reeled it into the bigger tape thanks
@greedyhips22 well was the tape split before then taped? if so then you would have to go to the part where you taped it and cut and then flip it around the way its supposed to go and re tape it. If it just got flipped on its own, then you will need to get a small screw driver and place it on the small hole in the back between to two reels all you do is push it in, its a button, this unlock the reels,
@greedyhips22 this is continued, then open the flap where the tape is, and with the screw driver pressed against the reel lock and the flap open carefully pull the tape out and be sure not to touch the shinny side, pull it out Until you find the twisted part, you may need to rewind the tape before you do this to the part that is twisted, you want as little tape pulled out as possible, once your at the twisted part and pull it out, it should become untwisted
@greedyhips22 continued again, then once you do that wind it back up and be sure it winds up the right way and doesnt get twisted again, and dont let the flap close with the tape out, it will get crinkled
@patricknedz What happened was my machine rejected the movie so I grabbed it but for some reason part of the tape was still inside the vhs machine when I pulled it out, I looked at the tape and it was flipped around on one reel, I have just opened it up, after seeing your video on how to open it and I'm pretty sure I put the tape back on track.
Dont use sticky tape! Its good for a temporary repair but give it a few months and the sticky on the tape starts to leak bonding at least three or four layers of tape together. After something like this happens i would transfer it to a DVD or you wil be doing these repairs every few months untill you have no tape left at all.
You will get snow for about 10 seconds of the repair, but after that you should be able to record or see your recording. The edges of the tape must be perfectly aligned. If they are not you can trim the protruding edges, again with a blade. This will not effect the transport of the tape over the head.
You should NEVER touch the face of the tape with your fingers. Don't remove the reels from the cassette. You can finds the ends by either blowing of use a sterile cotton bud. Don't use scissors to cat. Place the 2 ends one on top of the other in a splicer or on a flat piece of wood. secure the two bits (if not using splicer) with sticky tape. a little away from the break. Cut with a surgical blade or a razor blade diagonally as the head is on a slant. Stick tape over the cut.
Ur VCR doesn't like you, or that tape for that matter! My Star Wars Special Edition tape just broke cuz the tape was creased at the beginning:/ But This helped a bunch in my fixing it! Thanks, man!
This should be called "How to get oil, grease, dirt, dust, acid and glue residue all over your VHS tape so it will destroy your tape heads in the machine on the first playback."
@k1r2u1s2 thats why you have to wash your hands first and do it in a clean environment, and test it on a VCR you dont like, if you have an old VHS tape that cant be replaced and you need the video, this is an easy and inexpensive way to do it other than pay to have it fixed
Well you see how often I check up on duds, but read the comments AFTER mine, they say pretty much the same thing... btw in your reply "do it in a clean environment," is a carpet a "clean environment??? :/
@k1r2u1s2 its not which is part of the reason why I removed the carpet and get wood, basically the video is showing how to put it back together evenly, I said in the video somewhere dont play it back in a good vcr at first as you dont want to damage the heads. best thing to do is use latex gloves or something similar, and on a cleaner surface, I did use a book instead of laying it down directly on carpet, however part of the tape got on carpet anyways.
does anyone know how record over a vhs tape becuase I try to record over my tape but it not working someone told me If the little tab at one end of the spine of the tape has been broken off, the machine won't record over the contents. To re-use such a tape, simply put some sticky tape over the hole.but Idk where is the lil tape he is taling about
@WinVistaUser2 so did my pinocchio movie broke too, not the animated one, but I forgot to mention that if its a tape that you bought at the store and is not very expensive, then by a new one, but this is mainly for videos that can't be replaced such as old home videos that you must keep.
This is painful to watch!

You're using right-handed scissors with your left hand; that's the cutting problem

YOU A GOOD VHS TAPE FIXER
fabian789681 1 year ago
The tape most likely shreded on a piece of dust. Or, in my case, a piece of plastic that fell out of place in the cassette and shreded the tape.

"I am not a professional at this." Then you drop the screwdriver. Irony at it's best. :P
It's a good idea, to keep a precious tape going, as well as time to convert it over to a DVD, if it finally becomes unsalvagable in the future.
