  • rocking good song, great Brian vocals, drumming and bass!We want SWEET! love you Brian forever.

  • I`ve read past comments if SWEET were as good as deep purple. led zeppelin, ect. I like the other groups music, a few songs from that album a few songs from this album but every time i find a SWEET song i have not heard before i always also find a new favorite song! This song is great! Long live SWEET. love you Brian

  • Nie als Single erschienen - hätte sonst 6 Wochen locker auf Platz EINS in 1974 gestanden....

  • greeeaat, what was the A-side track of the 7"??? Anyone knows?

  • @finmarc .........Teenage Rampage...........

  • @finmarc

    thx

  • @finmarc the a side is " teenage rampage" i got this on ep !! :D

  • @hoxxin

    thx and tak

  • the first line sounds like the melody to i want candy by bow wow wow.

  • Great Stuff! I never heard of these guys before- or if I did, it went into one ear and out the other...

  • Is this just not a rip off of "Radar Love"? The Sweet= Blaggers!!!

  • That disco sign is a bit out of place. This is most definitely NOT disco!

  • steve is funny n.n

  • needed my sweet fix.=)i feel better now.

  • this kind of reminds me of Stone Cold Crazy. ;)

  • This B-side of the German RCA pressing from "Teenage rampage" is a classic example of it, what a brilliant rock potential Sweet proved if not just again Chinn/Chapman her hands had in the play. The true pearls of the rock á lá Sweet were for me always on the B-sides of her hit singles, because they proved her strengths, on this occasion, over and over again on new: brilliant guitar riffs, crashing drums, filigree bass play, and about all Brians great song. Best of all wishes from Germany!

  • @musicfreak1967 I couldn't agree more. Sweet s B sides were better than most of their peers A sides. What an excellent band!

  • I have a 45 Vinyl of this on the B side and "Teenage Rampage" on the A side.

I prefer this to the A side, personally. :-)

  • Wow....those rythm changes! THAT"S what I call some very crafty musicians...I think we can surely shake off the teeny-bopper image they have always gained undeservedly!!!

  • I just wish all members were together and still rockin as they liked to do :( rip brian & Mick.

  • This was my favorite song on the sweet singles album released here in Australia, and started my love of metal!!!...they had some fantastic hard rock songs...very underated musicians!

  • @2monaros I met Brian backstage when he came over to Australia in the 80's, I asked if he could sign my Sweet singles album but it was in bad shape, I said I better get this on cd, and he replied "can u get this on cd now?"

But it never got released on disc, why I'll never know... really great album!

  • @TheSweetFA74 I agree. Why Sweet never released the Sweet Singles in Australia on CD I'll never know.

  • Oh Own Up......The Sweet were a Great Band

  • You can almost pick out their influences if you carefully listen. Led Zep, Bo Diddley, Deep Purple.

  • the drumming is spectacular.

  • Wow they did a nice job of nicking some Bo Diddley.Haven't heard this before.Nice post.

  • Great stuff.

Used to buy the singles for the b sides.

worked in an arcade, action on the Jukebox, but the b side was sweet fa. played it over and over.

  • ye! sweet FA is a great song! I think Fanny Adoms is probably one of their best. Give us a wink is also a Legendery album!

  • But of course it was the Chinnichap crap that made it possible to listen to the B-sides lol!!!

  • I think the Sweet is a very underrated band and that their B-sides that they had written on their own were far better than the commercial, bubbly Chinnichap A-side crap!

  • When i call you'll fall and you'll crawl and thats all.

  • I love this tune but the start always reminds me of jingle bells lol. Fuckin love sweet

  • I also thought the beginning was a Christmas song!

  • Yeah, I was about sing "OHHH Jingle Bells, Jingle bells...". What a pathetic fool I am.

  • Rock n Roll never gonna die,

  • 1st rock band I ever heard. been my fave ever after

  • Don't this band just take ya' back to the good ole' daze..............

  • Wspaniale zmontowany film pod utwór rewelacja.hakkman2007 zna się na rzeczy.

  • my all time favorite band and i can say i have all their lp''s

  • 45 LP, what is that? :-S

  • I think Woodrat owns a so called "Maxi-Single". Those discs ran with 45rpm´s and the size of a LP.

  • Love this song!

Own it on a 45 LP.

  • Just running with the theme in the comments:

I think Sweet, COULD have been as great as Zep/DP.

They missed their chance - they should have done a HUGE stadium gig supporting The Who in '73, but Brian got beaten up!!

Had they done this, I reckon they'd have stayed in the original line-up longer . . the mind boggles how far they'd have gone while rubbing shoulders with the big guns.

What might have been . . eh!

I seriously don't think Andy ever got over it!!!!!

  • What really happened with Brian and that night? I've heard rumors but nothing that sounds plausible.

  • Well, what I read in Steve Priest's book, (although he doesn't go into any great detail) . . . is that Brian being fond of the booze, and even fonder of the ladies(!) was set upon by a group of men who accused him of trying to steal their girlfriends. Given Brian's beautiful looks - jealousy probably took over. He had his throat stamped on! (thugs heard to say you'll never sing again) his voice range was never the same again - and because of it, the band couldn't support The Who in London -cont

  • Pete Townsend (of The Who) wasn't very pleased either, and never asked the band to do anything with The Who again.

Watching Sweet videos, there was definitely an undercurrent between Brian and Andy a kind of bullying!! Was that the reason for Brian's self destruction??? Steve, in his book, doesn't add more or take sides, other than often calling Andy a Primadonna, who stomped off stage countless times.

Incidentally - Steve and Andy don't speak to eachother. Steve plays the US, Andy Europe.

    :-/

  • Steve's book ('Are you ready Steve?') is ONLY available from thesweet(dot)com.

I reckon Andy will only write his memoirs once he is the last of the four - then there's no one to contradict his version of events. My personal opinion? Andy blamed Brian for the band not rising to the top (where they rightly should have been) and took every opportunity to remind him of this fact. Brian hit the self destruct button!!

Andy took over, and booted Brian out . . .

    Sweet never recovered!!!

  • Thanks sonic. I suspected it had something to do with jealousy. I was a young teen in the hey day of Sweet, but I remember the crush I had on Brian. Living over here in North America a lot of the kids I knew didn't even know them. Andy has always struck me as a prima Donna and I quite agree with you . It's too sad really.

  • @soniclady89 I think the Who support thing is a beat up...does anyone remember who supported them instead?

  • @steviejv

Sat 18th May 1974- support bands to The Who in concert at Charlton Athletic Football Stadium (London) were:

Bad Company, Humble Pie, Lindisfarne, Lou Reed, Maggie Bell, Montrose AND SHOULD have read The Sweet!

  • @soniclady89 What are you talking about? The Sweet were great. They didn´t miss their chance at all. I am now going to quote part of the introduction from "no strings attached" by Phil Moss; "The period between 1974 and 1978 heralded Sweet´s finest hour, in fact for a brief period, in August 1976, Sweet were the highest paid rock act in the world". I don´t think that they could have stayed in the original lineup longer than they did. Brian was fired from the band, due to a heavy alcohol abuse.

  • @Merca230e

There are many people here that still think Sweet a joke band! All they remember them for is blockbuster etc and the outrageous costumes... mainly people from my age group. The media did a wonderful job with their image - bubblegum pop band! No wonder their biggest fan bases were in Europe, in particular Germany. But I say, thanks to Youtube, 'teenybop' fans of the early 70's sweet can find all their other songs here and are amazed at the fantastic rock sound - making new fans daily

  • @soniclady89

    Das hast du recht.

  • Comment removed

  • @lissiwill

I meant that I think Andy never got over missing the chance to play the biggest gig of their career at the time - supporting The Who.

As for the thugs who beat Brian up - I can't comment on if the matter was pursued... I was only 10 at the time, and I'm following the story in the present like everyone else is..... Maybe Brian didn't want to press charges? Same happened with Stuart Sutcliffe of The(silver)Beatles - they never caught them either.

    Cult? ...hmmm !

  • I hear all kinds of influences in this band. The nice thing is they sound like themselves very original. Great band and highly underated, very tight....... in the studio........not nearly enough live archive stuff around . A friend had a record back in 75 and that is when I discovered them for myself.

  • Soo love it.

    Favorite band!!!!!

  • Again It's a matter of opinion. Sweet had quite a few Hard Rock songs. Look you have your opinion and I have mine. Let's leave it that before it gets out of hand.

    Alfred

  • GREAT I LOVE IT

  • Regarding Mick Tucker and other Sweet members not being on the same level as the bands you mentioned. i think that is a matter of opinion. I rate Sweet better than the bands you mention. Again a matter of opinion.

    Alfred

  • As i said earlier i loved Sweet as a kid along with other "pop" groups of the time Slade and Trex etc but you cant in all honesty compare them to Deep Purple!!Brian was a good front man but in no way could he be compared to Ian Gillan as a vocalist and no one can honestly say that Andy was even on the same planet as Ritchie Blackmore as a guitarist ! these are facts not opinions .The difference was that Sweet were a great POP group but DP were a truly gifted band of immensely talented musicians

  • @lightintheblack I really LOVE Deep Purple, but give credit where it's due...have to say Sweet were EXTREMELY talented! Things just didn't work for them. Mick Tucker was one of the worlds finest drummers ...Andy Scott, a great guitarist.. his lead solo's every bit as good as Ritchie B....songs such as Yesterdays Rain & Windy City are great examples of his work and heavier than D.P!

  • This is the record I first played air guitar to.... well a tennis racket ..played on an old valve record deck in my bedroom.... absolutely brilliant

  • Great band in the same level as Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, but they had just shorter "activity".

CD "Fanny Adams" is one of the best hard/heavy rock albums ever

  • Great fun band i loved Sweet when i was a kid but in all honesty I dont think they could ever be ranked alongside Purple and Zeppelin they just were not musically on the same planet as guys like Blackmore,Lord ,Gillanand Paice nor Page ,Plant or Bonham they did have a great singer and drummer in Brian and Mick though but were just not at that level

  • I do not agree ;P they just chose more pop/fun music than these guys u mentioned. Ok the could be like them but they followed in different direction. Skill i think is the same. Well vocalist is worse than Jimmy Page or allmighty Dio

Listen more: "Fanny Adams" ;) !!!

And Mick Tucker is one of the best drummer ever !

  • Jimmy Page is NOT a vocalist. He is one of the best guitarists in history. You mean Robert Plant, one of the most characteristic vocals in rock music.

  • Genius

  • Much of this video was taken from the actual song they were singing called 'Live For Today'. It's a great Sweet rocker! Find it on You Tube and you will see it's the video from which most of this was taken.

  • great song of course

  • Great!

  • Love it at 03:17

  • danke

  • simply the best,,queen slade glitter band,,, take a bow,,these were genius

  • Mud, suzi Q, smokie.......

  • Think the sweet were copyin willy and the hand jive .. not i want candy .. they have taste you see

  • This is the B-Side to the single "Teenage Rampage"(1974). Sweet do have another song also called "Own Up" on the Water's Edge album (1980) when they were a 3 piece. Totally different song though. Alfred (fountain on HSH).

  • nice drumming by mick .. he knows his stuff

  • Sounds like they nicked this from "I Want Candy". Oh well, that's OK I guess.

  • But of course not the Bow Wow or any of those versions, you mean the old original, right? Sweet were dead and gone before Bow Wow Wow had their fifteen minutes of fame with that number, and didn't I Want Candy just use the same shuffle to copy "Willie And The Hand Jive?"

  • Excuse me, but 'I Want Candy' was originally a hit back in 1965 by The Strangeloves.

  • They didn't even write the track, it's way older than that even. Bow Wow Wow are the ones who did the most popular version though.

I was just making sure you weren't referring to their ridiculous version. Cheers!

  • Hearing all the great songs of THE SWEET in a live setting in 2008 with a dynamite band put together by Steve Priest is a dream come true. Miss 'em and weep, that's all I can say.

  • Jeezus man how Brains singing performance is absolutely awesome here. one of his best through his whole carrier I think. R.I.P. Let's eventually have a pint in heaven! Sweet was absolutely the best of the glitter glam bands!

  • love brian's cockatoo hair here.cute.and of course steve's little dance which should be included in every fan made sweet video.too cute.

  • This song is available on the remaster version of Desolation Boulevard with barcode

    0828766704723

    Good luck !

    Arco

  • I'm sad that I just realized I can't get this song on CD. The album it was on (Water's Edge) is out of print, and there don't seem to be any compilation CD's with it on. Oh dear. :( It's just such a cool song!

  • This was NOT on Water's edge album! It's B side of Teenager Rampage single but now you can find it on Desolation Boulevard - CD(Remix 2005)

  • Hey, thanks! I needed to know that because I need to get this song!

  • This song is available on the remaster version of Desolation Boulevard with barcode

    0828766704723

    Good luck !

    Arco

  • wenn es auch nicht das Originalvideo zu dem Lied ist erfreuen wir uns an diesem wunderbaren Song Beate

  • I'd call and you'll fall and you'll crawl and that's all! What utter brilliance! Thanks for this

  • The best song the Sweet ever made, how to get the video???

  • thanks a lot for posting this ! ! ! !

    still love this band´s music

  • They were a great band !!!!!

  • Fantastic! I havent heard this since the mid 70s! I used to have a load of their singles and the B sides always rocked hard. Can anyone remember which single this was the B side to?

  • It was B side to Teenage Rampage....

  • Thanks mate!.. that would make sense as Teenage Rampage was the first Sweet single that I ever bought, back in Jan 74 if I remember rightly. I wonder what ever happened to that B&W pro shot footage from 73 that was supposed to be being re-mastered and released?

  • the A side was love is like oxygen.( i think?)..FORGET their earlier pop crap...this band were a proper rock band in later years

  • Another Excellent video.Great B side song choice..

  • Love This Song!

  • Another one! Great, I love it thanks. Long live fan-made Sweet vids!

  • Great, good job

  • Great job with the great song ;)

Ain't that crazy what fans have to do to keep memo on the greatest glam rock band of all time!? No one hi-fi concert movie or such ever recorded. They were really screwed by their managers and label companies.

  • Quite right, we have to use what we got. And they were indeed popular, I have never understood why. There are lesser bands out there with great concerts and doccos put out by major labels and heavily promoted!

  • its because Sweet refused to be anyones puppets they were way ahead of their time- setting the standard for how all real rock bands should be sound and act! Thanks for the memories.

  • Touche. You are right. One reason I really admire them. Taking the risk and busting out on their own. Long live Sweet.

  • yeah and thats why they ditched thier manager and sorted themselves out. good for them!

  • Steve Priest has a great Sweet line up right now and they are spot on, check into it, I'm not sure what the dealis, but both Andy Scott and him have bands going out on tour under the name The Sweet.

  • id like to see steve's line up. Andy's line up is brilliant. i saw them live a while ago. A must see i think.

  • Yes I was at the Whisky A Go Go gig on June 12 and Steve's new Sweet lineup is great! Don't miss them on tour this summer!

  • All I can say is "Sweet!"

It looks like they only have some midwest and Canada dates lined up so far, besides the L.A. shows.

  • Do whatever you have to do, but don't miss The Sweet! It is a rocking good evening!

  • Excellent video, thanks for posting. Love this song.

  • Great!

This is one of my favourite songs from the b-side of the singles.

    Have been looking for this!

  • I love this heavy B side track from The Sweet Singles Album , my favourite along with "burning" , "Need a lot of lovin" and "New York Connection".
