My buddies black GT/CS stripes were removed fine...no repainting needed....

Then he put on some red GT/CS stripes.

I was told that the Cali specials only came in white, and that it replaced the stang in the grille with a simple Ford emblem?

Negative. I just bought one. The California Special package changes the front and rear valence, gives you the hood scoop, a stripe down the side that says "GT/CS," and the 18" polished chrome wheels. As far as colors go, mine is black. I may also be leaving something out for what you get.

Actually, the hood scoop is part of the "GT appearance package" the GT/CS has side scoops standard along with the other features you mentioned. I just bu one in Candy Apple Red, with no hood scoop.

I like the sound...how is the drone?

There is a drone in 5th gear at 1,500-1,600 RPMs (50-60mph). At first I wasn't pleased at all. If you avoid that zone, there is no drone. The car is relatively loud period. I like it that way, however it is not as loud as Flowmaster or Magnaflow. Since the car is my daily driver I always am amazed at how quiet other cars are. When I start the car in my garage EVERY morning, that loud rumble is so sweet!
