Buy the way it's now 2011 and this guitars popularity has gone through the roof along with it's value. It now sells for $800. not $200. GEARWIRE you need to change your name, can you guess?
If that guitar weren't discontinued, I'd totally buy it. I'd put some Grover tuners on it and swap out the humbucker for a SD Invader SH-8, then that thing would be amazing.
Seems to me that all this guitar would need to be amazing would be a full setup, new tuners, and a new pickup (Seymour Duncan makes pups with white covers, so not a problem there). I love that the neck is slimmer and the circuitry simpler than a run-of-the-mill strat. I also love that it has a fixed bridge and an output jack on the side instead of a sustain-killing trem bridge and the stupid recessed diagonal bell thing that Fender insists on continuing to use for whatever reason.

@Plusquevie Actually, there are a few differences. Other than the body being more filled in because it only has a volume knob and one pickup, the neck is skinnier. Most necks are 42mm or 43mm at the nut, this one is 39mm which is considerably smaller feeling when you play it. It shreds pretty fast because of it too. Its heavier than a standard squire and its a string through, so the sustain is better. I have one, I switched the tuners and the pup out and thrash Pantera on it. lol
DO NOT get that Guitar it's a Bolt on neck worse than the Epiphone g 300. If ya gonna learn save and get a better guitar. Sounds better you like it more and stick with it and it last longer. And if u quit ya get better money for it
you can't proof that because there are almost no guitars that have exactly the same configuration, apart from the neck joint:p a strat with lace sensors will sustain longer as a regular les paul
anyway, I'd still choose bolt-on because my guitar wont be ruined completely once the neck is broken
The sustain has more to do with the p/us but the gap between the neck and body on a bolt on decreases the sustain- it's not even an arguement dude it's a fact- the lesser amount of contact through a medium you have to transmit a vibration the weaker it will be
and what about the thick layer of glue between the body and the neck on a set neck?;)
By the way. If you transmit less vibration, it should in fact sustain longer. that's the whole purpose of a solid body guitar. the body vibrates less, the strings retain their energy and the sound sustains longer. so the common theory around set necks is flawed:)

Put in a white Seymour Duncan Invader pickup and you've got a Squier Tom Delonge Signature guitar with a Hello Kitty pickguard on it...
Even on Fender and Gibson models the intonation sometimes sucks when the guitar comes out of the box, so give that little Squier a proper tune-up and get rid of that rediculous pedal and you've got a great sounding beginners strat.
Hi Patrick, I know this video has been up for a while but I just have a few comments to add. The neck on this is beautiful actually; I swapped out the pickup for a DiMarzio Air Norton and gave it a good setup - and to be honest with you It plays as well as my Fender Jazzmaster. (not as well as my Les Paul custom; but it was $3K less) I've never had a problem with the tuners, and did not "Screw Up Hello Kitty's face" - Maybe there was an issue with the instrument that you recieved?
I don't know what he's talking about with it not staying in tune and the tuners beeing crap... Mine stays well in tune and I play it all the time. The tuners aren't OMG I COULD DIE FOR THESE GREATEST EVER but they don't slip as far as I can tell, and on a guitar like this that's all you need. This guy is just embarrased to hold it and is trying to act like a tough guy or somthing.

The neck on this is beautiful actually; I swapped out the pickup for a DiMarzio Air Norton and gave it a good setup - and to be honest with you It plays as well as my Fender Jazzmaster. (not as well as my Les Paul custom; but it was $3K less) I've never had a problem with the tuners, and did not "Screw Up Hello Kitty's face" - Maybe there was an issue with the instrument that you recieved?

I don't know what he's talking about with it not staying in tune and the tuners beeing crap... Mine stays well in tune and I play it all the time. The tuners aren't OMG I COULD DIE FOR THESE GREATEST EVER but they don't slip as far as I can tell, and on a guitar like this that's all you need. This guy is just embarrased to hold it and is trying to act like a tough guy or somthing.
