LOL. Pentium 4! The pinnacle of heat loss and inefficiency! :D

(It had 63% loss of energy to heat alone because of physical limitations. This is the reason you don’t see faster MHz anymore, but only more cores. The engineers ran against a wall in quantum physics! And the P4 was the furthest they could go with what was essentially still a Pentium 2 x86 architecture with bells and whistles. ;)

The Pentium 4 is the best processor I have owned. I can run Sims 3 on MAXIMUM GRAPHICS QUALITY and still is fast. I feel sorry for you who think the Pentium 4 sucks!

@GruntyStudios No, the P4 was not awesome. It was slower than AMD and PowerPC offerings at the time, slower even than a P3 at the same clock, used massive amounts of power and ran extremely hot. Remember how P4 laptops were massive and had 2 hour battery lives? The only nice thing I can say about the P4 is that it an slightly colder than the G5.

Pentium 4 used to come in dual core... it was called the "Pentium 4 D", from the P4D 820 to the P4D 955.

These days, they call them Core 2 Solo, Duo, Quad, or Extreme... but they're still direct descendants of the Pentium 4.

If you go out and spend $300 to $1400 for a quad core processor just because they exist, you're wasting your money. Buy what you NEED, not what you WANT. (Don't buy a quad-core processor if all you're gonna do is surf the Internet!)

Ah no, they're not based on the Pentium 4's NetBurst architecture at all actually, and it was Pentium D not Pentium 4 D, it was just a rebrand and two physical die's stacked. The Core architecture is directly descendant of the P6 architecture found in the Pentium M, which is a direct descendant of the Pentium 3, Pentium 2, and Pentium Pro.
