I would never go there on a weekend or holiday, the trail is full of weekend warriors, just horrible. We went on a tuesday morning and practically had the trail to ourselves.
this is why u go when the cables are DOWN, because no one is rarely climbing it. For example i did it today and we were the only one going up and at the top and saw hardly no one on the decent :) also a lot funner and more thrilling when cables are down!!
When me and some friends went to Yosemite we left Early in the morning around 4 from valley floor. got up to top around 8 30. only 3 people at the top. is was epic
Point taken lilwdy.I go to yosemite a lot mostly to climb. What really pisses me off are all the tourists who don't want to sacrafice comfort for a backcountry experience. Its a disservice to Muirs accomplishments to see all the RV's,litter, ect.John Muir was all about wilderness adventure and preservation.
While Muir did indeed describe the tourist rush in Yosemite as "an ungovernable avalanche... destructive to all real enjoyment", he also proclaimed it, in the same article (for the San Francisco Daily evening bulletin), "one of the most hopeful and significant signs of the times...", finding it infinitely more preferable than leaving the state's forests to the sheepmen and lumber companies.

Do a little research on the web, I'd recommend going in The Autumn, e.g. october, or early in the morning. To be honest it's not that hard, the worst bit is the 4500ft up from the valley to get to this point!
Youtube now has the abiility to rotate videos, you can turn this upright.

Thanks for the tip. You can see this upright now by substituting (portrait mode) for (sideways) in the title.

Jeez... the crowd is more dangerous than the ascent itself. If one heavy person falls, they might take a whole crowd with them.

Like this if you want a slide down!

I went on the out side of the cables. It is A LOT faster. It takes like 30 minutes to move a foot.

just got back from climbing Eiger, blindfolded. Yosemite is plenty big. If you hike back you can get away from tourists if you want..

That really takes away all sense of acomplishment
...was there a McDonalds at the top giving Happy Meals for free?

this was at the height of the season: midsummer, midday, and on a weekend. It wasn't half as crowded just an hour before.
