there are two rule number ! and rule number 3's. Rule # 1 Never leave suspects together. This is actually Mike Franks's rule. Franks has # rules and they overlap in the series. Gibs's rule number 1 is "Never screw OVER your partner" Franks's rule number three is "Dont believe what your told-Double check" and Gibbs Rule # 3 is "Never be unreachable."

i disagree with doctorwhoone on not carrying a knife! Who said "I wouldn't carry a knife anyway. What if i was caught with it and someone thought i was gonna use it to commit murder? . Gibb's probably needs to rethink this one."

I always carry a knife even before I started watching this show, my knife always comes in handy. I don't carry it to stab people with it but at least it is there if i ever needed to defend myself. It is a good rule, one to live by, people won't think you are bad 4 it

@CorruptingAmerica--Yeah, I have always carried a knife but never have I ever considered it to be a weapon. It is simple a tool. Long before Gibbs or even MacGyver came along, I've had a SAK. A SAK, duct tape and WD40-those three items are probably the most often used tools in situations that don't require medical attention! :-D

Just a few days it came in handy in home depot cause we bought a display model bench and they had to cut the straps holding it down. I just specify that it's a tool; it's not a toy and it's not a weapon.

@CorruptingAmerica loads of people carry a knife and very rarely are they called on it unless they are at a secure building that absolutely does not allow weapons (schools, airports, government buildings) Pocket knives are usually considered okay for a person to carry. And as government agents their badges allow them to carry weapons into the afore mentioned buildings so for them that is a good rule.
