@AeolianSkinner1983 Thanks! I will post the answer to your question when I come across the piece again. It is buried in a box of wedding music, under about 4 other boxes.
@AeolianSkinner1983 Thanks! I just found the copy I recorded. It is an Oxford University Press Publication. A simplified arrangement by C.H. Trevor. Copyright 1966
very good our old organist retired after 40+ years of playing for us and she always played this during the signing of the registers at a wedding, I took over from her
I had this played at my wedding for when the bridesmaids entered. I first heard it on a Christmas CD and knew when I got married I had to have it somewhere in my ceremony.
Absolutely beautiful, I think the stops you chose for this were perfect. I definitely have played this for many a wedding myself, and I feel that it's light enough for almost any occasion. Thanks for the vid post :)
Every hymn composed in 3/2 is always lovely. Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring and Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise in particular. One arrangement of Jesu Joy brings in lower tones during the refrain, with a break on the third note every measure to emphasize the three-time.
Bach composed Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring so that it could be played backwards OR forwards and still have the grandeur it does. Played with a pause at the end of each measure, or with a break on the third note of each measure in the lower range gives it striking beauty. It's truly unmatched.
wow uhhh i was just looking at these comments posted and, by the way over all great song im only 11 i can only get half way through the song, but anyways if you read some of the drum or guitar covers for rock songs your gonna get totally different comments let me tell ya but good cover
Over 200 weddings? That's quite an achievement! Vid is slightly out of synch though...dang YouTube...but a beautiful rendition nonetheless! I applaud you!
unkoine: I love this video. I've watched it often. I first heard this piece in the movie "The Minority Report" and have been a fan of it ever since. In it the guard plays this music on an organ for the prisoners. You play with such beauty, passion, and devotion. It is comforting and beautiful to listen to it here and watch. Thank you for posting.
No, it's not an Allen. But, I can't remember what kind of organ it is. I am not the regular organist there.
And yes....I've played that piece many times as well. I've been shocked to see how many people have viewed this video. You never know what people will want to watch, you know?
Well, I like it and I only wish I could play at anything like that standard. Alas, at 72 I don't think I'm going to make it so I'm happy just to enjoy !!!
Sorry you don't like it. I was just trying different combinations that day to see what I would use for a wedding the next day. This was just one of them.
wow...this is beautiful...i wish that i had the chance to play an organ...i dont think i have one in my area...the closest one i know about is an hour away...but i think there might be one at the catholic church up the street from me...ive heard rumors...but im not catholic, so i dont go to their church, but i would LOVE to play a pipe organ...its such a beautiful, powerful instrument...its so complete, its like the king of all instruments, and there are few people who can play them like you =]

Why do ladies play this slower than men? Most men I hear play it about 50% faster. I just noticed this watching about 50 performances the past few days.
Ms. Davis plays the piece well. However. the pair of shoes on the left side portion of the keyboard doesn't lend itself to the solemnity and beauty of Bach's Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring.
It supports the Dame Myra Hess arrangement whereby a lot of emphasis is passesd to the left hand. In Bach's original score, as with this lovely lady, the left hand is largely redundant.
I'm going from memory here, because that is not my usual instrument. I only performed on that organ a couple times.
I believe I used a Swell (top manual) flute chorus of 8 and 4 foot, coupled to the Choir (bottom manual), along with an 8 foot celeste and 8 & 4 foot flute.
The Great (middle manual) was an 8 foot Principal and/or Flute with 2 2/3 Nazard. I might have added another stop as well, but can't remember. I'll try to go over there again and reproduce the setting.
Your other stop was probably on the great, as a Nazard tends to overpower a foundation stop, especially on a tracker organ. I am not sure why this is, but it has been my experience.
Hi there may I just say that was beautifully played. May I ask where abouts these organs were the best organ I have played was in my hometown of Dundee in the Caird Hall what a magnificant instrument one of the mightiest in Europe I believe. yes I keep getting muddles up around 2 minutes into Jesu sadly. But Keep up the magnificent playing.
This piece was performed at Third Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina (USA). My other videos were made at my home church, where I am the organist - Memorial United Methodist Church in Charlotte.
Hi I am a clasical train musican, voice but play also the harpsichord and pipe organ, one time Organist at ft Jackson Sc I live here in holland and at lest twice the year the have a time where every Organ in all the churches can be played by all orgainst if you every this way let me know !
Good luck on learning the piece. No, it is not an Allen organ. I'll have to call the church to find out what kind it is. I'm the organist at the church across the street.
I love pipe organs too, but they are closely guarded by vigilant AGO superstars in my area. I was trained on a couple of the best pipe organs within 50 miles of my house. I miss them. :(
It is unfortunate that organs are often guarded as closely as they are, but I can understand, I mean it is only a few hundred thousand if not million dollars for a really good pipe organ, and some Toasters (e.g. Allen, Rodgers, Marshall & Ogletree) cost as much as a house.
I understand that, but would still appreciate being considered as a qualified performer on those instruments. My 30 years of experience should count for something.
By the way, I am disappointed to see that once again the term "toaster" is being applied to a musical instrument. How sad.
I'm looking for a pair of them myself. I was wondering if anyone officials makes shoes specifically for organ or am I going to have to continue using tap shoes with no taps?
