  • @MultiSpaz1234 - I agree! I recorded that video with my old digital camera. I need to make another one, using my new camera. Stay tuned!

  • Very well played! I was wondering could you tell me how to get this version. Who is the publisher? Thanks for your help. Ty

  • @AeolianSkinner1983 Thanks! I will post the answer to your question when I come across the piece again. It is buried in a box of wedding music, under about 4 other boxes.

  • @AeolianSkinner1983 Thanks! I just found the copy I recorded. It is an Oxford University Press Publication. A simplified arrangement by C.H. Trevor. Copyright 1966

  • @unkoine Thank you very music I found it online and put in the order thanks for your help.

    Ty.

  • @AeolianSkinner1983 Very glad I could help!

  • very well played but the sound quality is terrible. sorry

  • @ghlawrence2000 - Thanks! And I agree about the sound quality.

    Guess it's time for a reshoot! :)

  • Thank you for your answer. Succes with your new camera and good luck.Greetings from Hans, Aalten, Holland.

  • @515Hans - Thank you! I'll be sure to post a message here to let everyone know it's posted.

  • Very bad sound. Please make a new one!

  • @515Hans - I agree! It was recorded with my old digital camera. I have a new one now, so I'll make a new video when I get a chance. :)

  • what a beautiful organist. you are amazing. the way your hands move with the music is great. very beautiful.

  • very good our old organist retired after 40+ years of playing for us and she always played this during the signing of the registers at a wedding, I took over from her

  • I had this played at my wedding for when the bridesmaids entered. I first heard it on a Christmas CD and knew when I got married I had to have it somewhere in my ceremony.

  • Absolutely beautiful, I think the stops you chose for this were perfect. I definitely have played this for many a wedding myself, and I feel that it's light enough for almost any occasion. Thanks for the vid post :)

  • I love your idea of rhythm for this piece... it's precisely as I like it... and the waving... yes - the swaying comes naturally, doesn't it? :D

    As good as any other,

    lovely greetings from Finland :)

  • Every hymn composed in 3/2 is always lovely. Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring and Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise in particular. One arrangement of Jesu Joy brings in lower tones during the refrain, with a break on the third note every measure to emphasize the three-time.

  • Bach composed Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring so that it could be played backwards OR forwards and still have the grandeur it does. Played with a pause at the end of each measure, or with a break on the third note of each measure in the lower range gives it striking beauty. It's truly unmatched.

  • wow uhhh i was just looking at these comments posted and, by the way over all great song im only 11 i can only get half way through the song, but anyways if you read some of the drum or guitar covers for rock songs your gonna get totally different comments let me tell ya but good cover

  • @XxsnipurxX hi dude just seen ur comment how are u getin on with jesu joy of mans desiring il give u some pointers and if ur stuck il help!

  • Over 200 weddings? That's quite an achievement! Vid is slightly out of synch though...dang YouTube...but a beautiful rendition nonetheless! I applaud you!

  • Thank you very much.

  • i love this song thank you for posting very well played what more can i say but brilliant love and best wishes from Liverpool England

  • Thank you for the love from across the pond!

  • unkoine: I love this video. I've watched it often. I first heard this piece in the movie "The Minority Report" and have been a fan of it ever since. In it the guard plays this music on an organ for the prisoners. You play with such beauty, passion, and devotion. It is comforting and beautiful to listen to it here and watch. Thank you for posting.

  • What a sweet thing to say. I appreciate your kindness.

  • Is that an Allen?

Anyway ive played this song a bazillion times.

    Good song.

  • No, it's not an Allen. But, I can't remember what kind of organ it is. I am not the regular organist there.

And yes....I've played that piece many times as well. I've been shocked to see how many people have viewed this video. You never know what people will want to watch, you know?

  • Thanx unkoine

  • It looks like a Johannus to me...

  • Fantastic!

  • Well, I like it and I only wish I could play at anything like that standard. Alas, at 72 I don't think I'm going to make it so I'm happy just to enjoy !!!

  • I don't like the stop combination you have chosen for this!

  • Sorry you don't like it. I was just trying different combinations that day to see what I would use for a wedding the next day. This was just one of them.

  • Would love to hear this with better audio recording equipment! Played wonderfully, but the sound quality is lacking somewhat.

  • I only have my little digital camera, so don't have any other options. It would be nice to have a better way to record, though. :)

  • Wonderfully played - very nice job.You do the song justice.

  • Thank you!

  • Oh please no Vox Humana in the Theme!!!

  • I think you might be hearing the Nazard 2 2/3

  • Hmm... Sounds more like Vox Humana but maybe thats because of the video, now that you've mentioned Nazard it might be.

  • Yeah, the audio on my digital camera leaves much to be desired. ;)

  • Don't worry, all of them sucks when it comes to audio.

  • wow...this is beautiful...i wish that i had the chance to play an organ...i dont think i have one in my area...the closest one i know about is an hour away...but i think there might be one at the catholic church up the street from me...ive heard rumors...but im not catholic, so i dont go to their church, but i would LOVE to play a pipe organ...its such a beautiful, powerful instrument...its so complete, its like the king of all instruments, and there are few people who can play them like you =]

  • I wanna learn to play this with organ =)

  • Thank you for this video... This has made me decide I want this as a part of my wedding in the upcomming weeks!

  • Thank you all for the kind comments. :)

  • Thank you! Thank you! Thank you Mrs. Davis for not rushing through this wonderful composition! I think some organists must hate it, they seem in such a hurry to get to the end. Your performance enabled me to feel the

    music breathe. I loved it.

  • nice

you can this best, i'm sure :)

you must to play more :)

thanks for this beautiful interpretation of my favorite song

    :)

  • this is the speed it should be played at.nice and relaxed not rushed and like your in a race to finish it

  • Why do ladies play this slower than men? Most men I hear play it about 50% faster. I just noticed this watching about 50 performances the past few days.

  • Hmm, interesting point. I think it sounds better slower, though.

  • yeah!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic!

  • I play this all the time on the organ at my church....such a beautiful instrument.....thank you for posting it il post one sopon=)

  • its so nice to hear

  • Wonderfull job Mrs. Davis :) One of my favorite pieces

  • Thank you! :)

  • i gotta have this for my church chior

  • Fantastic! - I was looking for the switched-on Bach version, but yours is far sweeter.

    Thank you for it.

  • Thank you! :)

  • Ms. Davis plays the piece well. However. the pair of shoes on the left side portion of the keyboard doesn't lend itself to the solemnity and beauty of Bach's Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring.

  • That is a pair of organ shoes.

  • this so amazing i can't wait until i learn this song, i was never interested in classical music until i heard this song now i love it!!!

and the piano or organ i shall say is so wonderful

  • Mrs. Davies, your a star!!

i can only hope to play the organ as good as you

God Bless you for sharing this with us all

  • well done mrs.davis u r awesome in playing this beautiful piece of JS Bach

  • To me, that organ looks like an old 80's Rodgers 550 or mabey a 330 or 660.

  • It supports the Dame Myra Hess arrangement whereby a lot of emphasis is passesd to the left hand. In Bach's original score, as with this lovely lady, the left hand is largely redundant.

  • Flute chorus on the Choir? It's tough to tell with the sound quality.

  • I'm going from memory here, because that is not my usual instrument. I only performed on that organ a couple times.

I believe I used a Swell (top manual) flute chorus of 8 and 4 foot, coupled to the Choir (bottom manual), along with an 8 foot celeste and 8 & 4 foot flute.

The Great (middle manual) was an 8 foot Principal and/or Flute with 2 2/3 Nazard. I might have added another stop as well, but can't remember. I'll try to go over there again and reproduce the setting.

  • I believe the Swell was coupled to the Pedal, along with a 16 and 8 foot flute.

  • Your other stop was probably on the great, as a Nazard tends to overpower a foundation stop, especially on a tracker organ. I am not sure why this is, but it has been my experience.

  • wow. this piece is beautiful.

poor video quality, but what a talented organist.

i love tempo.. too many people take it too fast.

and i love the organ (:

  • its a lot like my curch organ but at my curch theres only the great and the swell no the choir

  • It is a very good undertaking. The video quality takes away from it; however no fault of your playing or skills!

  • Registration and technique a bit heavy; I'd tone it down some and speed it up a bit. Leave out the reed sounds, puleeeezzzze!

  • Thanks for your opinion.

  • bass coupler can avoid pedal?

  • Hi there may I just say that was beautifully played. May I ask where abouts these organs were the best organ I have played was in my hometown of Dundee in the Caird Hall what a magnificant instrument one of the mightiest in Europe I believe. yes I keep getting muddles up around 2 minutes into Jesu sadly. But Keep up the magnificent playing.

    Lord Braxfeild

  • Thank you so much for the kind encouragement!

This piece was performed at Third Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina (USA). My other videos were made at my home church, where I am the organist - Memorial United Methodist Church in Charlotte.

  • Hi I am a clasical train musican, voice but play also the harpsichord and pipe organ, one time Organist at ft Jackson Sc I live here in holland and at lest twice the year the have a time where every Organ in all the churches can be played by all orgainst if you every this way let me know !

  • I wanna learn...T_T and is that an allen organ?

  • Good luck on learning the piece. No, it is not an Allen organ. I'll have to call the church to find out what kind it is. I'm the organist at the church across the street.

  • According to the church's website, it's a Johannus electronic imitation organ.

  • Thanks, but I believe you added the "imitation". (ha!)

  • Well, I could have said "electronic organ, AKA toaster!" :) I love pipe organs, but sadly must play toasters... :(

  • I love pipe organs too, but they are closely guarded by vigilant AGO superstars in my area. I was trained on a couple of the best pipe organs within 50 miles of my house. I miss them. :(

  • It is unfortunate that organs are often guarded as closely as they are, but I can understand, I mean it is only a few hundred thousand if not million dollars for a really good pipe organ, and some Toasters (e.g. Allen, Rodgers, Marshall & Ogletree) cost as much as a house.

  • I understand that, but would still appreciate being considered as a qualified performer on those instruments. My 30 years of experience should count for something.

By the way, I am disappointed to see that once again the term "toaster" is being applied to a musical instrument. How sad.

  • i'm trying to learn this song...T_T

  • wow, 200 weddings is a great job.

Yeah but every time I see the shoes, I start cracking the hell up.

  • why is there a pair of shoes on top of the organ

  • Those are the organ shoes of the church organist. I was playing as a guest of the bride, so I brought my own pair.

  • I'm looking for a pair of them myself. I was wondering if anyone officials makes shoes specifically for organ or am I going to have to continue using tap shoes with no taps?

  • Tic Tac Toes and Organmaster provide shoes made specifically for organists.

  • Actually organ shoes are unnecessary. I play the pedal barefooted

  • It's POSSIBLE to play without shoes. But your technique will be better with them on. It's kind of like trying to drive your car barefooted. Your feet are more stable with the shoes on.

  • For ladies do have organ shoes but I don't know whether there are organ shoes made for men

  • Yes, there are organ shoes made for men. Two of my organ professors wore them, and I've seen plenty of other male organists wear them also. You can get them from Tic Tac Toes or Organmaster.

  • nice rendition. one of my favorites.

  • What is the rumble sound?

  • It is my silly digital camera. I think I need a new one from Santa this year, don't you?
