  • 0 dislikes.. mm that is saying something!

  • His sound is too polished, though I do prefer his playing WAY better than his writing...

  • @bearsmanmics What don't you like about his writing?

  • Comment removed

  • Does it sound like hes telling a story without saying any words...or is it just me?

  • @fuzzybear718 Yes, he is telling a story using the language of Jazz. That's the goal of all musicians.

  • I dig Mintzer, but wanted to see Erskine!

  • It doesn't get any hipper...

  • @bimmerfun I'm hip.

  • It doesn't get any hiper...

  • I played in Bob's quintet for a short time in NY some years ago (80's), with Jimmy Madison, Chuck Loeb and Jim McNeeley. HE is one of the more amazing musicians I have ever had the pleasure of performing with. That band was nice, and I feel so fortunate to have had the experience. Now I see the Jackets and wish I could be Jimmy Haslip for a couple of nights... hahaha... Gordy Johnson

  • すごすぎー

    やはり、マイケル ブレッカーの跡継ぎは ボブ・ミンツァーしかいないー

    天才・・・努力したのか・・好きで演奏しているうちに目覚めたのか・・んんんー

  • Simplemente delicado. Una joya hermosa del genero musical más importante del mundo, el Jazz.

  • un souffleur exceptionnel!

  • robbrie...yes i do realize your admiration for Wayne Shorter, as i admire him myself, but for my personal tastes...i would take Mintzer over Shorter any day of the week, much like i would take Freddie Hubbard over Miles Davis any day of the week, regardless of who preceded who...sorry dude :(

  • About to play this with him in 8 weeks at DeAnza community college night band .

  • Love his slippery use of time and out. Gives me chills

  • Mintzer is now Tenor sax king now that Mike Brecker has passed.

  • @tmg1968 sorry dude...Wayne Shorter would like to have a word with you. Wayne was Miles' Tenor as soon as Coltrane left. And after Miles, he co-founded a pretty ok fusion band called Weather Report :)

  • @tmg1968 I don't know, man. There are so many great players out that any one of 'em could be justified as the "next" Mike Brecker. Really, though, I don't think it should be said like that. They're just great players.

  • @tmg1968 Brecker believed George Garzone to be the king. Give him a listen

  • i love thissssss

  • Bob Mintzer always seems to hit the right notes to make me feel upbeat.

  • aw man he got old :(.

  • @qweasd1993 you're gonna be some day

  • @Zaul2410 we all will, hahaha

  • @JazzLOCO haha yes that's the beauty of it! :)

  • Mintzer blows me away. If you listen to his lines, they're borderline perfect. It's looks and sounds like he's just eatin' breakfast. His time is friggin' perfect and his phrasing is slightly unorthodox. Not on this cut as much, but on other Yellowjackets albums... definitely original. It completely sets himself apart. I love his altissimo register! It's sick! Sounds like he's holding on by the skin of his teeth. I love that sound!! Wish my altissimo sounded like that...

  • Just wonderfull.

    Love Mintzer.

    Canada

  • Great tenor sax work! Always loved Bob Monitzer's tone. This is a great tune, as well!

  • This almost made me as happy as Sonny Rollins playing St Thomas. And that makes me really, really happy.

  • Absolutely great! Terrific musicianship - and Bob is a great guy and teacher. Had the pleasure of working with him and recording a CD with JAZZESSENCE (State Youth Jazz Orchestra of Hamburg, Germany)

  • Millions of amazing melodies in one solo!!

  • perfect and cool =)

  • fantastic

  • Sweeeet

  • what type of moutpiece is that iv'e been looking for it but i cant find a name for it

  • @jazzsk8ter It's a Freddie Gregory 7* I found it on Theo Wanne's site. They have the setups to a bunch of different sax artists.

  • Ain't nobody better. A tremendous musician, dynamic soloist, great writer, and terrific teacher.

  • One of my favorite woodwind artist!!!!

  • Bad, vert bad Music.

    I lové it

    Gerhard Grroiner

  • Great song, great solo skills

  • Muito bom !

    Bob Mintzer é o cara!

    Ehhhhh!

  • It's insane to hear how big his sound is live. It just has this presence. He stayed at my college for a week and I got to play two concerts with him. Absolutely killin' it.

  • @jaysax90 where do you go to school?

  • @GLeone221 I'm studying saxophone with Don Aliquo at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN. We have a Jazz Artist Series here where we have 3 artists each year to play a concert with the top big band, play a concert with the faculty combo, and give a masterclass. Past artists have also included Phil Woods, Terrell Stafford, Greg Osby, Tom Harrell, Lee Konitz, Donald, Brown, Randy Brecker, Eric Alexander, Jim Snidero, Dick Oatts, Dave Liebman, , Eddie Daniels, Benny Golson, etc.

  • @GLeone221 Bob being such a versatile musician and composer, he ALSO performed his tenor saxophone concerto with our Wind Ensemble. It was an incredible week with him! I'm looking to study with him at USC for grad school. :)

Sorry this is such a delayed response. :P

  • Bob... absolutely the best,,,,,,,,,

  • as good as bob mintzer is, why does he hold back so much in the studio...he's just coasting! how lame

  • @mxer6161 just cause he can belt out amazing solos doesnt mean he has to. sometimes is great to just play laid back and simple. i mean, it still sounds great!

  • @mxer6161 Well, if you've listened to much Bob Mintzer, he's not a four-on-the-floor style player like Michael Brecker was. Listen to early Miles Davis; he could play as high, loud and fast as Dizzy, but as he matured he played more laid back.

A mature jazz player decides what not to play, not just crap everything in.

  • @damontoney I'm comparing him to himself. I know what I'm talking about, thanks your 2 cents....

  • @mxer6161 So in comparing Mintzer yourself, and thinking he's coasting, you saying you go hardcore, balls to the walls every time? That's pretty lame I must say. This "coasting"(as you call it) he plays is very hip and laid back. Its cool.

  • @mxer6161

Im confused why you think you deserve to hold a candle to B.Mintz...

  • Wonderful!! very very nice!!!

  • Does anyone have the sheet music of this? This is so awesome,,

Prefered for alto sax (Eb) instead of Tenor (Bb)

    Thanks in forward..

  • @llBartll You can find a leadsheet in the New Real Book. It is, I understand, available in C, Bb and Eb.

  • Great Tune !

  • Awesome.

  • I saw him walkin around in Monterey the other day

  • Great musician ! Thanks for this clip.

  • I never realized how much guitar and organ sound alike.

  • thanks a lot.

    Steph.

  • Cool light sound!

  • Wonderful! Love Bob Mintzer's playing!

  • Very nice!

  • :)!!!!!!

  • @brandon28081 um.... no it doesnt

  • @brandon28081 ROFL Ignorance is bliss...

  • Maturity is something I'm finally mature enough to appreciate.
