I can feel the hallucinogens! My girlfriend tipped me of to this band and we will definitely see them live as soon as they come our way.
But why the subjective discussion of whose version is "better"? The Stones version is a classic and shouldn't be denigrated and this is a great live version. Just appreciate that both are good.
Totally agree with thoose who mean that this version is much better! And to all you bloody Stones fans, you have to remember that this is LIVE! The way she makes this sound more powerful and personal, gives me goosebumps. I've been a Stones fan for many years, but I'm not that blind to see that this is better.
I find that the original by the Stones sounds way too superficial and too sarcastic. Like the lead singer was just having a bad day because his girlfriend broke up with him or something. Grace makes it sound more like she's battling with some inner depression. In my opinion. It's more personal. The original just doesn't feel like enough.
Grace Potter & the Nocturnals are far beyond anyone in rock music today. Only about every 10 to 15 years do you see a performer or group with this kind of ability to turn rock music upside down.
@27crooked how exactly are they turning rock music upside down? that implies that they're approaching the genre in a significantly different way, but playing rock with a soul attitude has been done since the late 1960s, probably starting when Otis Redding covered the Beatles and Stones. read a book. or at least Google that shit before you start making declarations.
that don't match Jagger's weirdness when it first came over the waves in that summer back when - and neither does her version * White rabbit * - which is nothing against the artist
It's starting to happen. Sucks for me, because I just discovered this band the other night. Some music video on at like 3am in the morning while high. Been hooked on Grace ever since.
@Hannibu You have got to be kidding. I like Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, but this version has lost all the darkness of the original. She has a fantastic voice and all, but no one will ever touch Jagger on this song. There are few covers that sound good as the originals, because we usually hear the original first and that version sticks in our head. One cover I like better than the original is Springsteen's "From Small Things (Big Things One Day Come)" performed by Dave Edmunds.
Lol the bitch at the front jumping up and down and waving her hands around gets on my nerves...

I like Grace, but she is not Janis. Nor is this cover as good as the Stones' original. Another forty years and we will see....

Ha Rolling Stones would be proud! Like "this Grace" more than the new "polished" in sequins one. Still do luv her voice though.

I just hope people know the stones stole the song from someone....the song wasn't a stones song.

GP & the Nocturnals rock! Let's hope they don't go too far and get overproduction by someone tryin' to enhance their commercial potential.

There are good and bad cover versions.
This one beats the original by far. GP is a great musician (totally underrated).
I've been listening to this ten times in a row and it is getting better and better... :-)

It is always a matter of taste.
I could never understand the hype around Mick Jagger. He isn't a good singer, sometimes his singing is even horrible ( e. g. Angie).
