  • why dont bands play like the bands from the 80s and 90s dont get it, how can kids dont like this, and how did my parents didnt like my music is thi some kind of generational brainwash that only the younger generations get the music of their day, because the guys from the 60s hated this kind, the 80s hated the 90s and 90s kids hated like me music today, still think the 90s were best anyway

  • @ukusapillage Its about IQ, musical ability, and most of it has to do with... who their parents are.... Don't say all.. Some people hate getting lumped in with the rest of their generation.. I was born in 1984... i Like music made in the 70's... More natural musical ability.. technology did not get in the way back then... Long Live Steely Dan!!!

  • Smith is no McKay or McGeogh, but this is a great song.

  • Just trying to imagine a combined sound of the talents of S&TB the Cure and Soft Cell!!!

  • OH MY HOLY STARS!!! ROBERT SMITH IN LEATHER PANTS!!!! DROOLFEST!!! .....LOVE THESE GUYS!!

  • Marvellous Vox guitar.

    And Robert wear it well!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is not robert smith. This is John McGeoch !!!!!

  • @anjegdjj no it's not. it is robert before he ate the pies!

  • @anjegdjj That is Robert Smith. He joined the band temporarily after Kenny Smith And John Mckay left and before John Mgeoch joined permanently. After McGeoch left, Robert rejoined the band.

  • @anjegdjj That is Robert Smith. He joined the band temporarily after Kenny morris And John Mckay left and before John Mgeoch joined permanently. After McGeoch left, Robert rejoined the band.

  • @lycia69 Ok now i thing it´s true. thanks for that

  • @anjegdjj shhhh is Robert Smith

  • @anjegdjj thats robert!

  • one word to describe this performence beautiful

  • cannot believe how perfect robert smith is.... any haters should really have a reality check and see themselves as the mainstream sheep that they are

  • Siouxsie calls Robert "Bob" which slipped out one time at a bar

  • OGWT FTW. Even Robert Smith was quoted as saying he was "trying to play John's parts and mostly failing miserably" So give him some credit for stepping in when John quit on short notice.

  • @djeboe guess this wasn't the "mostly" part of his playing... he fucking owns!

  • Robert smith kicks ass

  • Goddess.

  • 10 people gave this thumbs down why?!

  • @Kenro200x because they are idiots...

  • Damn what a great llook she had here.

  • Is this on the Nocturne dvd?

  • the main reason why theres no good music nowdays is that the moguls of record industry kept the best bands underground or the same choose too, leaving masses for britney spears of the planet

  • Robert smith on guitar = Lame sound

  • @Tengocuentadeyoutub Fuck you the only fucking lame thing here is your brain, asshole

  • I like Siouxsie but she looks way to strung out in this video. She's not performing at her best. She looks either tired or hooked on speedballs.

  • I've seen Siouxsie and Robert Smith together. It was great. Robert's stratospheric performance complemented the Banshees relentless rhythmic. They all matched so much. Those were the days ! :)

  • Was this when he was touring with them as the Cure? That would of be fun to watch him leave the stage with the cure and then come back on with an Ian Curtis looking guitar playing with Siouxsie and the Banshees lol

  • God, Siouxsie and RObert are so sexy.....they're one of my many personal influences along with Johnny Rotten and Peter Murphy....:)

  • He's playing Ian Curtis' guitar!

  • The queen in all her glory, go girl

  • I never knew Robert Smith played for this band at one time, wow!! news to me.

  • i just noticed siouxies armband/warmer....nice

  • Looks like Robert is using a Roland JC 120 as his amp, besides the Marshall

  • Great tune, great performance. They are so young ans so intense...

  • Thanks OP! Wow, just wow...

  • What kind of guitar bob use in this video???

  • Looks like a Vox teardrop or something similar.

  • This is pure magic,thanks.

  • 1983

  • @darksyfe The Cure were going a long time before he stepped in to replace McGeogh. Polydor had plans to create a kind of superband. Before this he had played with the Banshees when the Cure were supporting them.

  • What year ?

  • I prefer Siouxsie's Vox Teardrop, but Robert's is pretty fucking nice as well. God I want one.

  • The Cure began well before this. The Cure toured with the banshees in 79, and robert played with them then, and in the period of this video around "The Top" cure album.

  • no it was after he started the cure

  • what is that b e a utiful guitar that robert is playing ??

  • robert's guitar is too die for!

and siouxsie sioux looks so beautiful

  • 1:10

She comes THIS close to make a mistake.

  • music like this doesent get made anymore,

  • Sev's bass line sounds incredible here!!!

  • great days love this band

  • For me, this is the truelly great music from the 80's..I saw them at the Albert hall and Siouxsie had previously broken her leg, and she still went ahead with the show sitting on the edge of a stool clasping Skull-top cane!! pure and utter class!!!

musically, the Banshees were fantastic! Last saw them at Glasgow Barrowlands, awesome!!!!! Siouxsie youre Gorgeous!!!!!

  • i want roberts guitar! where can you get one like that?

  • Fabulous!

  • Roberth Smith, great guitarrist

    Siouxsie!!!!!!!

    I WANNA BE YOUR BANSHEEE

    jeje

    Great Band

  • @robertsmithisapussy

free to post, lets see you play some cockrock on yr axe

  • Robert Smith, Johnny Marr and Noel Gallagher are simply 3 of the coolest and greatest guitarists around.

  • smith and marr yes..but gallagher? you gotta be kidding...

but if you like him that's fine..he's just not in the same league with the other 2 at all..especially with marr...it's like comparing day and night.

  • No way, ur wrong pussy, he stands next to Johnny Marr and the Edge..

  • wow you obviously have no social life making an account just to say robert smith is a pussy...

  • Ma vaffanculo te e quei cojoni degli U2.

  • LOL

    you're gay

    :D

  • Why u hate the guy so much? Did he screw ur wife or somthg?

  • ahh me enknta esta kncion y los banshees y ver a mi robert ahi mas m gusta!

  • amazing song

  • She has a different style

  • He's no John Mcgeoch anyway

  • Mcgeoch is my favorite Banshees Guitarist

  • Mine too

  • Hah, this sad act has actually made a youtube account to talk shit about Robert Smith. He must have a strange fascination

  • en 1983j je les ai vu en concert au sea side festival a la cote belge quel delire c etait du caviare

  • Her vocals give me chills sometimes. In a good way of course.

  • Dear God. Robert looks beautiful.

  • i concur. vehemently.

  • @VanityInPerson ROBERT IS BEAUTIFUL!!! ;-)

  • @VanityInPerson true that

  • Pure poetry

  • Robert Smith looks beautiful here! My goodness!

  • she is absolutly amazing.I love birds, rabbits, turtles and frogs too.I love how she just took me to 1991 in an instant.I know this song was earlier,i only heard it 1-2 times.Shes in ny if yall want to see her.

  • o sioux tu me manque

  • Brilliant ....

  • ROBERT SEXY

  • Honestly Siouxsie & the banshees is a great band, The Cure is a Great band. Lets just enjoy the music. And if you have a problem well then mate, you're a damn wanker

  • @MiaMonster96 you tell them my friend.

  • @MiaMonster96 My only problem with Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure, is that why Robert couldn't continue work with the Banshees and why couldn't the two bands ever worked together as a group project. But then again, these are just silly fancies.^_^ lol

  • @Jakegothicsnake - But they did. That's not fancy, it's reality: watch?v=EhH3jPABFDE

They were called The Glove, and they even had a full studio album: Blue Sunshine. Robert Smith was lead singer on just a couple tracks though.

  • @BayviewFinch No no no no. I know Siouxsie and Budgie formed The Creatures and Robert and Severin made The Glove. I was talking about Siouxsie and the Banshees forming group projects with The Cure.

  • @Jakegothicsnake - You mean every member of each band creating one super band? Perhaps a 30's style big band doing jazz? Robert's always had an interest in jazz.

  • @Jakegothicsnake

Maybe becauseSiouxsie hated Smith(and probably still does).

  • @kolos2006 I don't know.....In all the interviews I have seen of Siouxsie talking about Robert Smith, she never says anything derogatory or hostile about him......

  • listen to that flanger on the bass

  • ROBERT!!

  • so mckay is the original but still robert is the man look at the nocturne live video all the songs there are played better than the original mckay he had more of a punk feel which was cheezy and then you got the coolest guitarist robert just an excellent man pretty cool he sure play s the songs better than the original

  • You haven't got a clue, mate. You haven't even bothered to check the tracks I mentioned......ps.. jigsaw feeling (montage) good luck.

  • oi mate you should be listening to a business video hehe

  • robert has been an underated guitarist for so long and plus he is better than the original(mcGeoch) in this group he plays the music so cool something mcgeoch was missing yeah he is the original guitarist but not the best robert is truimphant!!! also robert has been playing over 30 years already the cure is the best!!!!!!

  • I like to think that Robert Smith played his impressions of the songs, while McGeoch's parts are not always very comfortable to play, and Smith isn't really a fancy guitar player. I'd rather think that that Robert played the songs wrong. But I do agree that The Cure is the best, Smith is something of a genius.

  • Damn right!

  • The original Banshees guitarist is John McKay. 'The Scream' and 'Join Hands'. John McKay's guitaring was original, innovative, inspiriring and imitated since he created the Banshees sound.

Find 'Switch' 'Jigsaw feeling' 'Placebo effect' on this sight to be enlightened.

  • yeah you go robert smith...you rock love you

  • why smith and the cure are not in the rocknroll hall of fame is a mystery, he alone deserves to be there.

  • Because the RnR Hall of Fame is not about talent...

If bands like the Ramones and Talking Heads are in there it's because the travesty would be bloody obvious.

  • Dans dix ans peut-être ? surement au moins pour Pornography...

  • I love siouxsie and Robert Smith!!!!

  • I just got into this band about a month ago. I love this song. Damn, they just don't make em like they used to. :(

  • mr mellie robert smith did play guitar with the banshees on and off for some time but was never a full time member

  • This song came to mind when I was listening to Melt! I love Siouxsie's music, simply marvelous!

  • I think she sounds great.

  • First 26 seconds . afterward-singing out of tune, argh

  • Smith makes it man! Hey travelled from one side of England to the other while recording Pornography - running in low grade acid - god bless him for the sacrifice - some great music came out of it - this video is living proof

  • Sorry, but Robert Smith wasn't part of the Banshees when they recorded this song. John McGeoch (RIP) was the guitar player then...

  • Thanks, but I never said he recorded THIS song. Happy New Year!

  • la star de l univer

  • Siouxsie's music is always like a great adventure it takes my body and mind to far out places. Some times dark, and other times joyful and peaceful. But always with meaning. Great music and lyrics!

  • Wonderful analysis! she is truly captivating, isn't she?!

  • Thank you very much. Yes, Siouxsie is captivating and her music moves the listener to so many levels. The Banshees our one of my all time favorites.

  • beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • somebody like having their mic set on extra echo, lol love the song!!!

  • Ohhhh Robert, my Platonic Love!

  • I was always, thinking they were like "The cure".

But wow, they preformed a show with Robert smith how crazy.

  • They didn't perform "a show" with him, Robert Smith was a full time member of the Banshees for years!

  • Yeah thanks for that. Kosinski huh?? I will try and find this book. No but what i meant was not all lyrics have to 'make sense' in the phonetic sense of songwriting sorta thing!

I know Suzy is very well read and speaks many languages too. Brilliant tune though.

  • What a frickin weird song! Its wonderful as it makes no sense at all.

When music starts to make sense thats when i get off!!!

Great bass from Severin too and Suzi always looks special.

  • The best song on the best Siouxsie album-bar none!! Any videos for Melt out there?

  • sybamunki is a little confused...i saw the last ever gig by the original line up of the banshees playing in belfast in sept 1979. they were supported by the cure. john mckay-guitar-and kenny morris-drums-left the banshees in aberdeen days afterwards. robert smith then played with banshees and the cure for the rest of that 'join hands' tour. he joined the banshees again in 1983 after replacement guitarist john mcgeoch-legend-collapsed with nervous exhaustion and had to be 'rested'...

  • Wow! I have got a great deal of respect for people like you who witnessed such phenomenal acts during the very early stages. How was your overall experience of watching both the great bands live on stage?

  • all their songs had such a strong beat. and robert smith was so young and cute back then.

  • great song

  • the story is that the Cure were supporting the Banshees when the guitarist and drummer quit suddenly so Rob agreed to play guitar on the tour. Around the same time he had difficulties with the Cure following a bleak tour after the Pornography album. He then left the Cure and went camping and wrote the Japanese Whispers EPs and the Glove with Severin. he then did Hyaena with the banshees around the same time as making The Top with session musicians. The banshees wanted more commitment so he left.

  • This gives me goosebumps all over!!!

  • Robert Smith is brilliant on the guitar, as usual, and I am captivated by Siouxsies atonal voice. Astonishing! On top of that, great bass riffs by Steve Severin, and a solid drumbeat by Budgie!

  • They were magic.Pure magic. What a hypnotic guitar riff. The guitar was played and created by John McGeogh a great guitar player. The song is from "A kiss in the dreamhouse".No words can explain this fantastic artists.Maybe "MAGIC".Thanx to the person who has posted this video.R.Smith was influentied by Siouxsie and the banshees, after playing with them

  • What a magical band!!Sometimes I think ,this is pure art much better than paintings and movies.Siouxsie could create a story in just 5 minutes of music.Lucky the bastards who have seen them live.I envy them

  • This ia a beautiful, beautiful song. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE it!

  • IT's funny to think that when this video was made, Robert Smith was just "some guy playing guitar".

  • what in dogs name are you talking about. the cure was already a well established band in 83/84 with at least four great albums and a fifth on the way when this was performed. fatboy smith was taking a break from the limelight he was experiencing in the cure to slum it with siouxsie and the banshees for a bit. he was good chums with bassist steve severin. put that in your pipe and smoke it.

  • thank u nevilletetts, for taking the words out of my mouth/fingers :)))

  • no he wasnt, he was in the cure at the time. he was doing both, because siouxie would complain that he wasnt in thier pratices enough because he was involed in his band. and depending on the time the glove with steve.

  • Favorite all-time song by Siouxsie and the Banshees.

    LOVE ROBERT SMITH!!!!!!

  • mine too!!!!

  • lol im 13 and ive love siouxsie and the banshees and robert smith for like all my life :DDD

  • does anybody by any chance know if this version is on cd or vinyl? i have nocturne with this song on it but i like this version with robert smith better. thanx!

  • On the Nocturne-DVD , as an extra.

  • Nocturne IS with Robert Smith. John McGeogh was out by then. Very unfortunate. I love John McGeogh's guitarplay above everyone elses. (watch the 1981 performances from SatB)

  • I love this song!! Robert Smith did a great job. I love the guitar sound. Haunting but nice.

    =)

  • It's so funny how her dancing so doesn't reflect what her song is talking about. She is doing a dance that seems so happy, but the topic is more depressing.

Before her I can only think of Mick Jagger (Gimme Shelter live for example) that did that. It's fascinating: it adds to the whole apathy and emotional disconnectedness of the music.

  • Oh..... love it!! Brings me back to cable, and a show somewhat like this... if not. I love this stuff. Nothing better then the oldies alternative!!! I want to go back ! Thanks.

  • Budgie, definately one of the best drummers ever.

  • Can anyone tell that effect on the bass? It sounds like a light flange run through a really warbly chorus almost similar to a phaser.

  • what do you call the acid trip-y effect you hear on most Banshees and Cure song? (not this one though, its kind of more ghosty)

  • Flanger...

  • yeah im pretty shure it is a phaser, my bass doesnt have it but my guitar amp does, and they sound the same. for phaser i mean.

  • this is a great song, it should have been a hit.

  • It wasn't released as a single. But if it would have been, it probably would have done considerably well on the charts.

  • I LOVE the way she moves around on stage.

  • I emulate her a lot when I dance. I don't care if it's feminine, she's awesome.

  • Dakero... I was a teenager around this time, some guys did dance that 'kind of way' to this sound. I feel smug listening to the comments(esp)from ppl who are just discovering Siouxsie & The Banshees. Back then the older lot used to bang on about 'being there' in the 60's or 70's and Punk and all that. U could never trump their Hendrix,Zepplin stories. Now looking back the early 80's was a good period for us & UK music. What will todays teenagers have in 20 yrs time to brag about?

  • Who knows. I think music is a branch of art that's being heavily stifled by how manufactored it is nowadays. But there are always a handful of good artists that are doing it just because it's what they love. I'm a bitter old man when it comes to music, so I'm a little jaded but I'm sure there's plenty of good modern stuff. The big thing in the goth clubs now is industrial, synthpop and stuff like that. But it's always nice to hear this or a Cure song play.

  • You're dead right, regarding how manufactured music is today. It's mostly just "product" to be marketed and sold and although there is good music out there, you have to wade through a lot of shit to get to it. As an aside, the other problem I have is that as another bitter old man, I can't help but see how derivative most music is today. Most bands are just recycling what they overheard their parents listening to twenty years ago.
