WebOS has a stripped-down FFmpeg without Theora support, so I replaced it, with the matching libavutil, libavcodec, libavformat, libavdevice, libpostproc, and some GStreamer libraries in /usr/lib, and /usr/lib gstreamer-010, but same situation. I have booted it on a P4 Dell, but it hangs at the HP splash screen. The best bet is to prepare an Ubuntu skeleton with all of the libraries, and build WebOS into it, so it can be worked on manually outside of VirtualBox for a WebOS x86 LiveCD
A Positive and Constructive Open HTML5 TV on WebOS, will allow Everyone to have Open Television Services on the Web using WebM and OGG. The Capability is there to show OGG and WebM using a simple GStreamer Patch. The heart of a mobile OS, is the ability to play Streaming Television, which places value in it's marketability. HTML5 Advertising and Apps need Solid HTML5 video playback for Developer Interest and Growth in the Marketplace. I am still working on finding a Compatible GStreamer Library.
WebOS Supports OGG video playback in the browser, but is missing a GStreamer Library for Theora. You can see the Poster, Javascript based Captions, and clickable video area, without the picture. You can hear the Ogg vorbis sound of the video also. I went-through a ton of Distros trying to patch the missing GStreamer Library, but with no luck. Since HP is going to Open WebOS to the Public, Theora and VP8 HTML5 video support will come later. You will also see HTML-Javascript based Apps in /palm
