you should make another electro house tutorial in reason 6. by the way, this was really helpful. i've been doing dubstep lately but i wanted to learn more about electro house. thank you :)
I'm tinkering with these kind of basses on my Casio VZ-1 Synth (8-oscillator, semi-modular digital BEAST!) and the little bits on getting the texture with multiple oscillators was canny helpful! Great vid, gets right to the point. :)
i have a quick question how did you get the thor keyboard part into the sequincer. Also how were you able to record the midi keyboard. I can hear the thor patch that I chose when I mess around with it but when i press record it wont record. I need your help!
For the people asking for the notes I was in the same situatuion, and still a noob but to make same notes u have to use the pencil tool on block mode then find the right key and put the notes, for the first note u need to make it a little longer then use a snap 16 (maybe others but i used that) to put the high notes is tricky but u need to find the right spacing, as a note the fourth note is a bit far away from the 3rd.
pm if ya need more help and hope this will help :p
I got a question, i've got redrum in the combinator, and when i copy pattern to track, it doesn't show up on the Combinator lane, instead, a new redrum track appears and the pattern copied into it. how do i stop this new Redrum lane from appearing, i want the pattern to go straight into the combinator lane. anyone know how to do this, please? thanks guys
Shit man that information is so useful thanks so much! How on earth did you learn all this? I'm learning Reason myself, and just a question with your note placement, for the bass notes did you just pencil them in at specific points along the way or did you use another way to put them in, if that makes sense? The answer will be off a great help!!
Even though this tutorial is genre specific you can use all of these techniques in any song you produce. I think its worth watching all of the 7 day tutorials you will learn LOADS!
this is a good tutorial but i have no idea how to make the melody of the bassline sound good like i dont know how to make a good melody for the bassline.
this is unrelated.. but i cant believe youtube has started putting advertisements before videos. i just had to sit through an ad on shaving cream haha.
fl studio is a toy. the only way to get something out of it is by using tons of vst's ... which you can do in any DAW. Out of the box is quite shitty.... good start point though if you're new to music production
Even if you don't want to make music in Reason in exactly these styles, it's really helpful to see and hear and explanation of how the various features of Reason work.
Great tips. Although, I wouldn't say the chromatic scale isn't melodic. It's just the notes have equal weight as oppose to a major or minor scale or some variation of (pentatonic/bebop). But I'm sure you already knew that. Although, I'd turn up those higher frequencies on the feedback and give it some real edge. Maybe automate it? So the song starts off soft and as the song progresses turn up the frequency and really blow them away in the peak of the song.
This tutorial was very helpful. You really know what you're talking about. I'm looking forward to applying some of the things I learned here to my own music in fruity loops =]
Hey dave, how do you know where you need to change the equalizer that will effect a particular sound. For example, when you have a piano in the song, how do you know the Hz or Khz of it?
add a MClass EQ to your instrument thats playing your piano, raise the gain by about 3-4db, take the bandwith down to a narrow point, then while the section is playing move your frequiency up and down slowly till you find the point you want to emphasise the most is sounding louder, then adjust bandwith and gain to suit.
Do you know of a site or guide that breaks down how synths work so I can better understand how to make a noise that I hear in another song? I understand the basics of how synths and their osc's work, but not fully. Thanks! And btw your tuts kick ass!!!
Other than wikipedia? I don't - I've learned what I know from reading manuals and wiki research - that and a LOT of trial and error!
Google it though, I'm sure there'll be something (It's difficult to find engaging reading about the inner workings of oscillators in my experience, though!)
Yeah, add the mastering after you've mixed it. The mastering suite isn't technically bypassed in the video, just there's no preset applied to it yet :)
