@Zaranyzerak long time viewer first time post. I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned this to you, but Ridley Scott talks about an Alien prequel in his 2003 audio commentary for the director's cut of Alien. It's an interesting listen especially after watching the teaser.

it would be $23 if converted. damn for a minute there i felt like i got off lucky. but I'd easily pay £30 for the blu-ray quadtrillogy. Prometheus sparked my interest in the alien (just the first one) film again. Just a masterpiece in the making. The Exorcist, the original Texas chainsaw Massacre, Alien and the thing are my ultimate favourite horror films

Scott has said that it is defiantly set in the Alien universe and Michael Fassbender has gone on record saying its very connected to Alien and besides this trailer is pretty much a mirror of the original Alien trailer, same letters and music.
I am not a big fan of the current onslaught of trailers. The CONTENT of the Trailers interests me more than HOW the trailer is structured and played. With that said, Prometheus HANDS DOWN is the best teaser trailer of the year. Seriously take away all the information of behind the scenes and interviews, Prometheus teaser trailer is a proper way to excite an audience.
TDKR trailer didn't impress me much either but I'm still holding out hope because a trailer isn't meant to show you everything unlike most that do. As for Prometheus looks awesome!

I really think whilst this film is not an Alien movie we will get a real shock over the shit storm that was brought down on the crew of the Nostromo!
