If China hadn't interfered with N. Korea, it would be enjoying all the benefits that South Korea has today. Freedom to choose your government, to do what you want, and say what you want, and not starve to death. Notice there are no old people in these propaganda videos, no disabled, no mentally challenged, just a fat dictator and his fat son controlling every part of everyone's life, including these ceremonies which all are required to participate in. Yep, you can keep it! Poor people!
This seriously makes me cry. All that energy, all that potential, all that human endeavour, harnessed, sacrificed, subjugated for the glorification of the NATION
i love communism, it is not evil in itself. In theory it serves the masses. The men who twist it, and make the masses serve them, they are evil.
This video is incredible. I don't think communism works on a large scale, but I also don't agree with massive demonizing of it by the US and other countries. It's not a bad idea, it's just abused.
@00Petulia00 N. Korea isn't really communist though. It's a monarchy that continues to exist only because of military power and foreign aid from China and the US. There's nothing communitarian about its system, as most of its people live in extreme hardship and political oppression, while their government tells them lies about the world and instigates violent attacks on S. Korea which sometimes threaten larger conflict.
Its just a nice song and video period. I've talked to people from North Korea and they don't make it out as being forced to be in this. They take it as quite an honor. The song is by Faithless I don't like all his stuff but this is one of my favorites. You have to admit it gets you in the mood to exercise, LOL Faxation
And to think, most kids in England are too busy mugging, getting ASBO's, bad mouthing, destroying everything, stealing, watching TV etc, to ever appreciate this let alone do it.
The only things they suffer from is hunger and national division. If the US had not intruded into Korea the country would have had a chance to have equal development under a single government. Yet despite all the hardships, the Koreans can produce this kind of national spirit.
Equal devleopment under a communist dictatorship like the one that already exists in North Korea? Then instead of just the North Koreans living in squaller and state oppression, it would also be the South Koreans. I don't see how the UN intervention in S. Korea, which by the way was at S. Korea's invitation, has denied anything to the Korean peninsula. The real problem is N. Korea's despotic and awful government, which threatens to start WWIII with its belligerent provocations.
@buzongtang North Korea was economically healthier than the South until the 1960s. It was because of arms build-up that the North's economy ran ragged, and again, only from the 1960s. The majority of Korean peasants in the late 40s favored the socialist leaders (Kim Ilseong) because he was a freedom fighter in Manchuria during the colonial period. The Southern leaders were left-over finctionaries from the Japanese regime.Of course they had no legitimacy, and they needed the US for protection
Everybody thinks that North Korea is as place where they shoot you if you say the wrong thing. North Korea is much more than that. Its a shame for people to be so stereotypical.
The image we get from North Korea can be blamed on the media. I'm Korean myself and I live in America. The few things I have heard about North Korea are all naturally bad things about the severe borders or the nuclear weapons. I agree with Buffoon1980 too. Communism was meant for the better, but people have twisted it around to make it worse.
This seriously makes me cry. All that energy, all that potential, all that human endeavour, harnessed, sacrificed, subjugated for the glorification of the privelleged few.
Don't hate communism, it is not evil in itself. In theory it serves the masses. The men who twist it, and make the masses serve them, they are evil.
okey, it's cool, but it scares me. just makes me wonder what's the real reason they are doing this, and who are they doing it for. you know what i see? robots. i feel sorry for them. their gov controls ppl very strictly, and if they don't cooperate... i mean, what's the use of putting up this elaborate, large scale gymnastic if not to make ppl comfortable, partotic, and blind, espacially us? and what about millions of other dying, starving children?
I saw the documentary that this clip came from and it focuses on two girls who are trying for the mass games..basically, if you ask them why they are doing it, their answer is "I want to perform for the general"
well this is not propaganda..i've definitely seen this footage in a documentary about North Korea. i know their mass games is a very important event. those people practice all year to be perfect. they're really amazing.
one of the better propaganda vids i've seen. notice the lack of starving people or people being executed for talking with a foreigner. well that's not too sexy is it? i guess they're saving the food for gymnists who just shut up and dance.
for the very first time, we have a unique insight into North Korean society in the 'Mass Games' involving a cast of thousands in a choreographed gymnastics.
The result is amazing... But does the ends justify the means?
