TALOS THE UNERRING! TALOS THE UNASSAILABLE! TO YOU WE GIVE PRAISE!! WE ARE BUT MAGGOTS WRITHING IN THE FILTH OF OUR OWN CORRUPTION, WHILE YOU HAVE ASCENDED FROM THE DUNG OF MORTALITY AND NOW WALK AMONG THE STARS
I remember the first time I watched this, I was so terrified of stop motion for some reson, but when Talos turned his head, I ran from the room, I was seven years old. Now I love this film.
Listen to those foreboding minor chords that Bernard Herrmann conjured up. Man, this cat was a genius and the film is pure classic at its best. Beats anything out there!!! Inside, he just uses a harp a flute and clarinet... BH knew his SH**!
This scene works because even though this was a swords and sandals action movie, they actually had an understanding of things like tension and atmosphere. The moment you see the statue, the music lets you know something is going to go terribly wrong, but they make you sweat it out for the next two minutes. And even then, when it finally happens, Talos still somehow feels like a surprise. You don't get that in the "instant pop up CGI monster madness" of today.
@MrMaxismybaby I have to say that the special effects were pretty damned good for 1963 (Harryhausen's work) and the music is just about creepy enough. :-o
I've yet to see the remake of "Clash Of The Titans". I've heard both positive & negative things about it. Hopefully, I'll get to see it soon tho!!!!! :-)

@253JONNYSTUART If your looking for a reasonable answer to the events of this scene, wouldn't a better question be to ask "How did the statue come to life?"
@Deere55 im not asking about the statue the question was aimed at the door, how did the door close? unless it was the gods, and unless you know the answer im not interested.
windstorm 100 i couldnt agree more the slow errie menace about the scene seeing it the first time back in oh id say 96 or 97 as a kid i knew somethin bad was gonna happen an of course i knew Talos would come to life that moment when Hilas is talking to Hercules about the pin an he looks up after hearing the creek he instantly knows secretly "o f##k we've done it now"
Always thought this mysterious, otherworldy scene the best in a very good movie---helped along by Bernard Hermann's breath taking score. Humans have a very deep need for myth even in this supposedly 'superior' technological age. In fact, we need myth more than ever. But, beware, the old 'beings' have either positive or negative power--depending if you respect them or not!
I always thought that it'd be kinda cool if ALL the bronze statues came to life at the same time!!!! I'm sure that some smuck with NO IMAGINATION in Hollywood is gonna try to remake this Ray Harryhausen classic.... I certainly hope not tho!!!!!!!
Mythology, The Stautes as the guardians of the treasures, and the Giant images in Christmas Island, and the Pyramidsn& Images across the world is a reminder of the Gods, big enough no man can change or move. The hunger of the Africans even their bones will fight agains injustice in the end. They wanted the golden fleece, but it will not save their lives but poison it. Very interesting Greek story.
I sat between my mom and dad in 1964 at the Rialto Theater in Belmar, NJ at age 9. When Talos turned his head in awakening and I heard that creaking sound, I went APESHIT as only a nine year old kid in 1964 could! Treasured memory! Nothing could compete with those Harpies and the Children of the Teeth of the Hydra....God Bless the stop action talent of Ray Harryhousen.

you could not capture the unique originality of this film, saw it with my old man l was 6 but it scared me to death, one of my all time favourite films,,harry harryhausen was a genius of the early special effects,,
no need to ever remake this movie. "" clash ,, of the trash "" was something stupid at all.raymond harryhausen is 91 years old.do not shock him to death.....
Talos always reminded me of Achilles. Probably because both died by getting hurt in the ankle. I first saw this movie in 9th grade when we were studying Greek mythology. This part scared me
Remember as a kid back in the early 90s Mum used to stick this film on to shut us up while she did the house work. Talos used to frighten the shit outta me. Scar'ed for life!! Good film though.
@jwhaler82 ohh yeah i forgot bout that corny daft thing they did for TV, maybe because it was forgetable (ive never watched it anyway), but i meant a hollywood blockbuster, i didnt like the new clash of the titans
The only problem i have with the scene is that on the statue platform, instead of roman characters for "Talos" they should have been in ancient greek!
I first saw this movie a s a kid many years ago of course... and the scene of Talos turning his head while while the noise of metal (brass) and the eerie background music played on scared the living daylights out of me! I admit though, I was a bit disappointed in the actor who was chosen to play Hercules. Nothing personal of course. I was only 5 yrs old then. Somehow, I expected the original Hercules (Steve Reeves), with big muscles and all... to come into the picture! Lol
great memories that willnever be replaced. the fear of talos as a child! you just know there is no pity or humanity in that huge, brass shell.. cheers to you for the upload, and respect to everyone for not cursin' each other out, which seems to be the normal youtube procedure! a nicer generation of people maybe??
@TalonMercenary I totally agree with you about Nigel Green. It's a pity he took his own life (he suffered from depression after separating from his wife)
@Splangy1 Oh yeah I saw a bit of that it was rubbish. I just love the classic greek myth movies when there was stop motion in it. I like cgi but sometimes film have to much of it
Great film. Nowadays films are filled with filth, it is no coincidence that Hollywood (and all Western media for that matter) has been monopolized by Jews.
@stepheng1483 Sorry, but outside of the fantasy world of Fox News your "filthy evil Jews taking over the media" rant is anything but the truth. It's just brainwashed sheep prejudice. Perhaps you're a holocaust denier as well.
@DistressSignal The Jews openly admit to controlling Hollywood, google it. They have also monopolized our newspapers and tv. It's no coincidence that our media is anti-white and filled with filth.
@stepheng1483 you are right, most movies are just out to make money on the box office. Its always the same story, diffirent character/setting. But its always the same shit: the good guy is a total bad ass, gets the girl and is untouchealble by the bad guys. then at the end the girl gets in harms way, and the good guy epicly saves the girl pulling off a 10000:1 chance stunt and kills the bad guy. the end.
everything about Talos is brilliant. The moment you see him just crouching on the plinth, musical score, the way his head turns, the way he gets off the plinth, his walk, swaps hands, sound of screeching metal, agonising look in his face when he cracks. all down to 1 man. Ray Hauryhausen
thanks for this upload, i watch these films today and i can appreciate the talent of the film makers and crew and their dedication, today with the CGI etc its just not the same, awsome stuff thanks again....
This film was made in the days when people had talent all round. And it really does show in their work. Film makers today, and actors, are just a bunch of useless MORONS. They should not be in the business of film-making.
It seems that way, but there is still films being made today that are produced by very talented people and on tiny budgets. For example, I discovered a sci-fi film this week called Hunter-Prey. It relies on practical effects and character interaction in the classic western style, rather than CGI and "bad-boy gangsta" contemporary fashion. Not a perfect film, but certainly a decent effort.
omg thanks for the upload i rmember this when i was little, still one of my favourite films ever...i remember thinking how MASSIVE hercules was but looking at it now he just looks normal aha LOVE IT and when Taylos turns his head shivers every time OMG my childhood is back ahah :) cheers x
I hope and pray that Hollywood don't "remake"this all time classic. It would end up as a CGI laden multi million dollar pile of shit. I believe that the remake of COTT has not been well received, and was inferior to the Harryhausen original. The thought of Tom Cruise as Jason makes me cringe!
@mguyvig The remake of COTT was a complete CGI mess, and guess what, it's even gonna have a sequel ... There's no chance to see Tom Cruise in a remake of Jason, but getting that wooden Sam Worthington instead would be even worst ... let's hope they will not have any idea related to a Jason remake.
The Bubo cameo was a shame, like spitting on all the little things which made the original movie likeable. Harryhausen's work will be greatly remembered, recent CGI will not.
At 0:25, they are standing in front of some greenery, then they walk about 30 feet over rocky ground, at 0:35, they're back where they were, then walk some more. Then at 0:55, there they are again... in the same spot! Bad editing I think.
I remember when they used to show this film, Clash of the Titans, and the Sinbad films on the 8:00 movies Friday nights. They also liked showing The 5 Deadly Venoms.
This (original) Jason & The Argonauts (1963) movie is far superior to the remake. The music score, special effects, acting and plots are much more realistic and believing than the second one.
This movie is so amazing. I prefer it to many modern movies. The special effects are still amazing, the diction is wonderful, nothing is overdone, the musical score is perfect, and the fear is palpable when Talos comes alive, *wow!* I'm ordering this on DVD!!!
Still to this day that moment when Talos turnes his head sends shivers down my spine. I think one day the will remake this film and i hope that they can capture that haunting moment. I'm confident they will as clash of the titans is out now.
@TheGodParticle i watched this film last night im 25 i used to watch this as a child and all the memories came back of talos fucking epic film this.i watched clash of the titans and its crap

Funny how the 5 highest resolution films ever made were made during the 60's and all shot onto 70mm film.

everything about Talos is brilliant. The moment you see him just crouching on the plinth, musical score, the way his head turns, the way he gets off the plinth, his walk, swaps hands, sound of screeching metal, agonising look in his face when he cracks. all down to 1 man. Ray Hauryhausen

This scene is as powerful as anything in a modern action film.
It really freaked me out when I was a kid, made me scared of statues!
I guess the Weeping Angels are doing the same thing for kids today!

This film was made in the days when people had talent all round. And it really does show in their work. Film makers today, and actors, are just a bunch of useless MORONS. They should not be in the business of film-making.

@razor71927

I hope and pray that Hollywood don't "remake"this all time classic. It would end up as a CGI laden multi million dollar pile of shit. I believe that the remake of COTT has not been well received, and was inferior to the Harryhausen original. The thought of Tom Cruise as Jason makes me cringe!
mguyvig 1 year ago 3

Jorge4402 1 year ago
This movie is so amazing. I prefer it to many modern movies. The special effects are still amazing, the diction is wonderful, nothing is overdone, the musical score is perfect, and the fear is palpable when Talos comes alive, *wow!* I'm ordering this on DVD!!!

Still to this day that moment when Talos turnes his head sends shivers down my spine. I think one day the will remake this film and i hope that they can capture that haunting moment. I'm confident they will as clash of the titans is out now.
TheGodParticle 1 year ago 22
@TheGodParticle They need to get the music right too; its a perfect pairing in this scene ...
