Nice slide show brother. I was in a sister company, the 281st AHC down in Nha Trang. I remember you guys. Gotta love those heli vets. I was a door gunner in 1968.
My name is Scott Henry - I served with D Co. 3rd MP Bn AFP in Da Nang from June 1968 to July 1969. Your Base was part of my Patrol area. On some of my days off I was able to go on Patrol with some of your Huey Gunships. I appreciated the Hospitality that I received from all in the Black Cats. Welcome Home
My name is keith baldwin I was in the 2nd plt from march 70 to dec 70, befor that i spent 9 months in the First Inf div. but the time I spent with the blackcats and the friends I made will stay with me forever,This brought back many memories good and bad. I thank you for putting this together. peace
To all you who served in Vietnam thank you welcome home and God bless you. My Son is a Marine who served 2 tours in Iraq with the 1st LAR Bn. I know you didn't get the welcome home and thanks you deserved at times, so from a Father of a vet to all you Vietnam vets again I say thank you welcome home God bless you.
I remember going to the enlisted man's club on this base. I was stationed with NSA Utilities. I think some of our guys helped wire the club in 68 or 69. I remember the Army guys there always treated us pretty nice and let us on the base and into the club about anytime we wanted. It was a good place to get a beer in the afternoon which was against all the rules. I think our Chief came there one day looking for us and the guards wouldn't let him on the base. Thanks for your service.
@NcicHit I was wondering who drank all of our beer during the day!
I remember having a tooth ache while flying on a Mission. At Noon time the pilots dropped me off at the NSA Hospital to see the Dentist. After having two teeth pulled I was picked up and much to my dismay flew the rest of the Mission. It took about that long for the effects of the Darvon & Novocain to wear off !
@docfixer1 That's a great story. I was there from OCT 67 to around April 69.
All those "Black Cats" lined up ready to go was a great site. If you ever made to the China Beach PX, I worked at the building right across from it. It was NSA Utilities, we ran all the generators and made the juice to run most of the military at DaNang.
@NcicHit We "Shopped" at the Freedom Hill PX, never made it to China Beach, (by land) but I am glad to know who powered the Cassette Tape recorder that made the sound track of this video possible. Thanks!
@sl8run Thanks. I think this period was the start of the "Divide" in the US. I am proud to have served and especially with this Company. When I listened to the Radio Peking recordings this year it reminded me why we were there.
My husband, Dale, was in this outfit fr 1967-1968. He came home safe & we've been married for 43 yrs, thank God.
