  • mike miller finds a lot of time when hes not playing with the miami heat

  • Thank god, thought I was the only one :P.

  • i try this but it fucks up my fingers

  • I bowl like this but I don't carry it I hold it then once I am to line I just throw it

  • fuck thumbs

  • my cousins dad bowls like that

  • I agree with you ArchaicDominion. I am more proud of my two 800 series than I ever would be with a 300 game. Granted the 300 would be nice just to say I have one, but an 800 series shows consistency over 3 games than over 1 game.

  • Yeah it's called 2 handed bowling!

I bowl that way.. Have been since I was 4. I'm 15 now.

  • Thats how i pick up my 7s

  • there it is, the DK barrel toss

  • this looks like imo the style that led to two handed bowling like jason belmonte uses.

  • I think the stache is awesome...I love the blue nitro I switched to no thumb 5 years ago because of an injury and I'm much more versatile...Im using a columbia 300 Bud 2...very old lol

  • @1983tmb Haha been bowling no thumb since freshmen year of highschool and still have my columbia 300, i have switched it to my spare ball. The other ball in my bag is one you can't find anymore either. They just don't make em like they used to eh?

  • @wideyon5 haha I use a plastic ball and get hook like all the guys that have reactive balls. Haven't got hat elusive 300 yet but threw 11 twice. Threw 14 in a row once but it was split between two games. ended up being my first 700 series. would rather throw an 800 series then a 300 game though

  • I must admit my stache does look rather porn-star, or Hitler as some have mentioned. 20 years ago when all this went down. Some of the comments are absolutely hilarious. One question I saw was "Did Amleto miss a 5 pin in the title match to lose. Yes he did. Unbelievable. This also was a telecast where we had a bomb threat. We went on air probably 30-45 mins late. Instead of showing the final match, they opted for figure skating. I guess they showed us!!! I miss Chris Schenkel

  • Do people that play bowling at competition level get annoyed by the bowling tourists who think they can play?

  • I always do that

  • i dont use the my thumb when i bowl. my wrist feels more comfortable and i can grip the ball more and i can get more strikes using it that way.

  • @iLuVMeTaL4LiFe you should never feel uncomfortable in you wrist. if ur ball driller are of goof caliber he will drill so that you dont have to grab it with your thumb. that results in the same amount of revs cause the thumb will go out by your heel naturarally and your hand will load power into the fingertips. hope this helps. practice it and you will be much more accurate. (this is the key)

  • LOL: "nice" moustache...^^

  • nice mustache hitler....

  • Well a lot of people who weren't taught a basic hook release or are using house balls end up at the no thumb release. However, it can be done with precision......but that isn't what you usually see at the bowling alley. Usually you see people who just stand left and throw right and wail on it using no thumb. They could probably stand to learn something from Mr. Miller here. Or Johnny Petraglia JR.

  • For the "no thumb" bowlers, do u still have a thumb hole drilled? Just curious.. Hehe. I bowl with my thumb, and I can see the advantage of not losing the feel of the thumb hole or not having to hassle with tape when bowling thumbless

  • @XvREByrd3vX the majority of us do, and we know how to throw it with one hand too, but we only use it when lanes are REALLY dry or need to throw a right side spare (for righties)

  • @XvREByrd3vX i dont have my thumb hole drilled out....i do have a spare bowl i use with my thumb for the ten pin and use it on the excessively dry lanes with no thumb as well..

  • @cliffsmith4 is that legal for competition? because if you do not drill the thumb hole, weight of the ball will not be within 1 ounce all around

  • @asoeng I have never had any trouble...I've competed in state and local tournaments...as for a drill hole thumb rule??? ...I have never heard of that before..check it out...its a good question

  • Comment removed

  • He's using an Ebonite Blue Nitro! One of my favorite bowling balls... still own one! :-)

  • @Tomkat53 That ball was so beastly when it came out. When it hit the pins it sounded like it weighed more than it did.

  • I watched this because I thought this was the Mike Miller from the Heat.

  • I agree that no-thumb is not for everyone. I bowled 2 perfect games and a 289 with my thumb (with plenty of 700 series) and now 2 without my thumb and a 299. I pulled a tendon years ago and had to take 3 years off. I was sure that my bowling career was over until I started no-thumb (over 14years now). Avg is 217,221 and 221. Finally bowled my first 800 series this year 269-236-300 (275+ x 26) There are limits to no-thumb though, you just have to no your limits when bowling. Just me 0.02 cents

  • Last shot :D pin action rocks.

  • I only got 280 from using 2 fingers. I can't get 300 so 2 fingers suck!

  • cool mustache

  • @fanofnothingface -- Unless your thumb is missing off of your hand or deformed or paralized there is no reason to use only two fingers. If you can't throw a hook the way bowling was intended then don't bowl. I bet you average about 150 with no thumb. Great job.

  • @Vegasmilman ignorant people, you guys make me laugh, I bowl regularly, but just because i do does'nt mean you can't be succesful 2 finger, or two handed doesnt mean others can't

  • @Vegasmilman I learned to bowl with 2 fingers, then went to a traditional style. Now I usually bowl normal, but have learned how to bowl 2 handed. Bowling 2 handed off and on for maybe 5 months, my average is only 5 pins lower 2 handed than 1. Apparently you're somebody who tried to bowl with no thumb and couldn't do it, so now you have to hate on it.

And did you ask the inventor of bowling if it's meant to be one handed? I bet people called switch hitters in baseball bad too originally...

  • Mike Miller won 3 PBA National titles with a thumbless grip. Period

  • I bowl with out using my thumb, to me its just easier. You don't have to worry about "grabbing" the ball at the bottom. Just let the ball roll of your hand.

  • i dont use my thumb and i got my high game of 233, its just easier for me, everyonne has their style of playing

  • You can make Urethane work wonders with no thumb

  • i palm the ball too but i use my thumb, yeah... its a weird release

  • no thumb is the only way to play

  • I bowl without my thumb also but I always have trouble with the 10 pin. Still average about 205 though. With that 10 pin it could be 215!!!!

  • @bbeboutuaa

im right handed and had ten pin issues. started releasing the ball so it would spin to the left to get the ten pin. its awkward at first...

  • @jkx04 I can do that and it works sometimes I just need more practice with it is all.

  • i shot my first 300 game with no thumb last year and i average better than 220 now. it's not easy at first but once you get the hang of it you really can do a ton more with the bowling ball too

  • just like anything else there are advantages and disadvantages to way you bowl but if it works for you and you do well hell keep doing it(:

  • so do I I went from averaging 135 with using my thumb to a 190 without my thumb

  • AWSOME!!!!....im a first timer at no thomb and its easy

  • @sirzacksalot I self taught myself to bowl with no thumb and my average jumped 55 pins from 135 to 190

  • @golfer82484 ... is it something that takes alot of practice? or would it be something i can do?

  • AWSOME!!!!

  • i bowl two fingers ut left handed

  • problem is with 2 fingers you have less control for the spare

  • @JCHONDA2NR that's when you bowl with your thumb... i do that and i bowl 2 handed... not hard to do -_- and it is legal, you just cant change grips

  • @honkindonkey oh ok i see...i tried bowling with no thumb and its hard for me, right now i bowl tweener suitcase release and im trying to throw power stroker release and its killing my average :(

  • @JCHONDA2NR Hmm really? Cause I pick up my spares easily "thumbless." I guess it's just all up to the bowler.

  • I love bowling with two fingers. To those of you who think its wrong think about this...what if 2 finger bowling was the standard and some guy wanted to put his thumb in the ball would you give him as much shit as you do the current 2 finger bowlers? Change happens all the time and if some people are more comfortable without the thumb is it really that big of a deal?

  • see I do it completely opposite, I only use my thumb/. and sometimes I just palm it

  • i bowl 2 finger and my average is 190 :)

  • is it that hard to put your fucking thumb in the ball?

  • @mrbowlingcrazy Is it that hard just to respect the fact that some people use a different style. I would love to kick your ass heads up....

  • @mrbowlingcrazy There is a difference between someone who goes to a bowling center, rents shoes, and throws a house ball with two fingers in it trying to produce some kind of hook, or a player that has worked on the style year after year and established a solid 215-220 average....

  • @tbond0808 well I realyy have nothing against 2 finger bowling.. I am just trying to say that 3 finger has its advantages and 2 finger has its advantages

  • 2 handed makes a plastic ball hook really good i use it and get 195 im bowling 2moro and trying to get at least a 200

  • I also bowl without a thumb. I have been told to change, but still end up going back to the urethane ball and 2 fingers. I can't complain I averaged 221 in my last league and I have a 214 going right now in my current league. I have shot 11 in a row more than I can count, but haven't finished out that 300. I did, although, receive my 800 ring for bowling a 809 back in December with a urethane ball and no-thumb shot. Does anyone have a recommendation on a good ball for a 2-finger shot.

  • that style will really fuck up your first

  • i use to bowl with my thumb in, and i got some good games doing it, but i wasn't consistent and had a hard time getting a lot of revs on the ball. so i started throwing no thumb and the lowest game i've had doing that is a 170.

  • i only use 2 fingers watch my video response

  • I throw it like that reqularly

  • i throw 2handed 1 hand no thumb with thumb left handed right handed ive preety much thrown most of them except backwards but im tryin dat 2morrow if i go

  • i also throw without my thumb, i get higher revs and accuracy without it also.

  • i actually throw without using my thumb also. some call it cheating, I call it being comfortable with my approach and throw. i get better speed hook and accuracy

  • that is not cheating at all. a ton of people think its harder without your thumb

  • @iLuVMeTaL4LiFe u get better accuracy without a thumb?! i think ur the only one ive heard say that...

  • @iLuVMeTaL4LiFe

well hook and speed will be normal with a 2 finger release but most of the time accuracy drops. and if you can have more accuracy with 2 fingers then thats a hell of a nice job

  • Look that Mullet ! That's the good old time !

  • i bowl like jason belmonte

  • is two finger or three finger better for the wrist/hand/arm?

  • 3 is safer because you have a point of balance, your thumb.

  • every time i've tried bowling with my thumb in i also end up straining all three fingers.

when i use two, i cradle the ball with my wrist through the entire swing, almost no strain on my fingers. i had to change my approach though, far right boards.

i use the loaner balls by the way.

  • well most people, when they use only 2 fingers try harder to put more hook on the ball, but with 3 fingers in it lets you roll it more gently, thats what i was thinking as wrote that.

  • three

  • I seen a dude slide on the wrong foot and he is an awesome bowler so its what ever you can do to get the ball in the pocket is what counts.

  • Lou Campi won many tournaments during the PBA's infancy by sliding on the wrong foot. No one should ever try to copy him but it worked for him.

  • thats how i do my shit

  • they were cheering at hes haircut

  • lol

  • I don't use my thumb when I hook...

  • Yes, well some people who can't afford a bowling ball resort to a house ball, and as we all know, it don't hook good. No fingers is an acceptable way of getting revs on a plastic ball, though it is possible to have major hook with the thumb. I would know...

  • Yeah but you have ants in your pants

  • @ATCTKD02 i think its like how u take ur thumb out b4 u hook but he doesent even start with his thumb in the ball wich is different from most people its just an unusual way of bowling i guess

  • @tkkmr4 I never put my thumb in unless i am trying for a 10 pin

  • 2 fingers isn't "ball palming", I used to bowl without the holes at all, that's what I call "ball palming", haha. My average then was around 110, but now I use all three fingers and average around 145, and getting better.

  • well its similar, i just cant understand the motivation to use just 2 fingers..you lose control compared to regular..you lose power...and in my opinion massive respect is lost...i just think its a bastard form of bowling and believe only rookies use this technique...only way i wouldnt mind seeing it is if some 1 had a fucked up thumb or had some serious tendinitis

  • Who cares whether people respect you? I bet Mike Miller is a lot better bowler than you'll ever be. If you want people to respect YOU, learn to spell and use grammar correctly, smart guy. Not to mention the fact that if you go to the Bowling Hall of Fame, you'll see that the first bowling balls had no holes at all. He's more of a traditionalist than you are!!!

  • yeah, honestly who cares about respect from other bowlers. I bowled in 1 league last year. Some people i was bowling with got me to bowl with no thumb. After one full season i am now halfway through my summer league with a 178 avg. I bowled a 289 last week! I am still getting better and see no reason at the moment of using my thumb.

You think you lose control, but in all honesty as long as your hand is strong enough and your approach is consistent, i see now reason why it cant be used.

  • i second this

  • Exactly, there is no reason why it can't be used. Me, personally, I use my thumb for bowling strikes. I can't roll a straight ball with a 3 fingers, haha, I don't know why. But I can roll a ball perfectly straight without my thumb.

    It's just whatever works.

  • i bowl an average of 135 but just this week ive started using the two fingered approach for more revs on my strike throw. if i aint throwing the strike then ill use my thumb for added accuracy but lower revs

  • I started bowling last summer about this time 2 fingered no thumb release using house balls same as the guy below me i started bowling 150 AVG somewhre in there.. i got a Hammer Black Widow Pearl drilled out then started tearing the lanes to shreds.. i averaged 188 last league season and i am 3 weeks into a new league season averaging 205.. gotta love it :D all my bowling gear are as follows....... Shoes: Dexter SST8's Balls: Black widow Pearl and Black rubber spare ball. Standard 3 ball rollr

  • I use two fingers but with straight arm. Mikes curve style looks stupid.

  • He curves it like that during his approach so he is able to leave it cupped throughout his approach and use his elbow a bit more to help his ball out.

  • who cares how someone bowls.. i bowl with no thumb and my avg is 181 and i just started about a year ago tops. i even get all of my spares with 2 fingers, its not that uncommon

  • i thought that was a magnum pi mustache

  • i do middle finger in the thumbhole and get a lot of points somethinmes

  • wuts ur average though

  • one hand 3 fingers its 210

    2 fingers its 200 and

reverse i would say high 180 low 190s

  • I remember this guy, he was my personal hero way back when. I started bowling no-thumb with a house ball years ago to get the feel of putting spin on the ball. It took me a few years, but I started getting pretty good and never wanted to or needed to use my thumb. I've been carrying a 200 average for years, up to 209 this year and just bowled my first 300 last Oct. I even throw at the 10 pin with no thumb, unlike most. There are 3 no-thumbers in my league...all 200 plus averages.

  • @burns1210

Same here man, I started league bowling last year, been using a house ball for almost a year now doing that, brought my average up from 130ish to 160. Got a ball drilled out, and now I bowl a 180 average after 2 weeks.

  • i throw at the 10 pin no thumb as well lol pain in the ass sometimes huh?

  • The 10 pin should be abolished I say...

I average 220 with no thumb, just bowled my 3rd league 300 since January on Wednesday. Still no 800 though, bowled a 300, 290, 204 in January, that was nearly cause to hang myself, talk about a letdown! I followed that up with another dissapointment of 300,247,237 in April.

One day an 800 will come....One day damnit!

  • Thumb or thumbless; whichever works for the individual.

The same principles of timing, speed, and rev apply to everyone. That thumbless bowling is less common in the PBA probably shows its want of consistency. But if you can do it, do it. And if you can play that way for the PBA and win matches and titles, then more power to you.

I myself have bowled both styles and found thumbless to be more comfortable and accessible - but the drawbacks mentioned are valid ones.

  • i bowl no thumb and i average a 171

  • Do you have this whole TOC recorded? I heard Amleto misses the 5 pin in the championship match.

  • Most bowlers who use their thumbs suck to. Jason Belmonte, Osku Palermaa, Cassidy Schaub, Brian Valenta, Shawn Maldonado; those are excellent 2 handed bowlers who are better than you. Two handers can be just as accurate and are drastically more powerful, i.e Superior.

  • if i could do 2 fingers consistently i would convert to it in a heartbeat

  • thats y ive only really heard of one of them jason belmontes a monster but the bowling world will always be dominated by ppl who use there thumbs

  • i bowled with out my thumb for a while and then i got a black widow pearl for my birthday and i have to learn to use my thumb because it hookes way to much and all i get is gutters

  • haha

    nice 'stash

  • it is hard to control thumbless but thats how i bowl and it just took me many games to learn how to control it. just like using a thumb bowlings all about consistency

  • how bout this im 17 i bowl on my highschool team and i can do both. Actually let me rephrase that i can do both WELL! i throw with my thumb when i bowl for my highschool but the two leagues im in i desided to do an experiment and one league i bowl w/ thumb and another without (except for spares) i average about 45 pins more w/ thumb but it is what im comfortable with and its way more consistant people who use no thumb were never taught how to throw a hook properly but still wanna look cool! haha

  • yay! i bowl without thumb aswell :D

  • I'm sick of reading the hate over thumbless and two handed bowlers. Get over yourselves. It requires a lot of skill to master it. I can't use my thumb anymore so started over thumbless. It's very difficult and I'm having challenges, but after 7 years of not bowling, I am really enjoying the sport again. I realize why I loved it so much. Maybe thumbless isn't for everyone, but don't hate on it because you're ignorant or jealous. Mikje Miller would own you haters in a second on the lanes.

  • I grew up with a traditional four-step, 'stroking' form. Broke my thumb when I was 14 just two days before a tournament that my parents were locked into paying for. I went down and started working a no-thumb and it has served me wonderfully for 10 years. I occasionally go back to the basic stroke/four-step...both have their advantages and both sit me at a 200-212 average. My only complaint is that on the occasion where I lose control with no-thumb...it turns out UGLY! Lol.

  • I have been bowling same as Mike Miller even prior to seeing him on the tour and this video.

After seeing this live telecast I bought the same ball which I still own to this day. It is a 16lb Ebonite Nitro, it was blue with a dull finish and I had to polish it to cut down the hook, much like Mr. Miller had to as well. I don't think you can buy this same ball anynmore, it was out 17 years ago.

  • btw anyone know what ball Miller is using ?

    type and weight?

  • Weight. I believe he used a 15lb. It was a Nitro ball by Ebonite.

  • You have to have some kick ass strength AND accuracy to make that work. Miller blows my mind with the no thumb release.

  • Does bowling without using your thumb help you get higher scores?

  • no... it usually means your less accurate cause your thumb is what guides the ball. the fingers help give it rotation and hook

  • it gives higher revs no doubt about it i've bowled a 279 twice with no thumb. just cant quite get the 300 with no thumb.

  • I bowl the same way he does. I have been bowling for three years now and I am currently averaging a 218!

  • Good job man!

  • oh yeah? than why not in PBA? liar. everybody lies in internet. says me 2 years later

  • lol, why are we arguing?

everyone has their own style of bowling

  • 2 finger = for queers

  • bowlerwannabes=total fag

  • I am a two finger bowler also. I have a 131 and 134 average in my two leagues. I also had my first 200 three weeks ago. I do have my 170's and 180's to on occasion. I guess I am the second coming of mike miller. LOL not quite but hey I can get around 160 average that is only 54 off what he had in this video.

  • wow... i hope you're kidding

  • dude u suck! stfu and dont comment shiet nomore! im

  • lol, first of all, you average 1fucking31 in a THS league. subtract 20 pins making it 111, which is what you would bowl on a T.V pattern. Now, I'll give you 20 year old equipment, and see how you'll do. Then to top it all off, I'll put you on national television, lets see if you can even break 100. You are nothing compared to him.

  • nice use of all factors curtie

    =]

  • im lefty!im mrbowling24!

  • he bowls like a pussy

  • Mike Miller is a heckuva lot better bowler than you are, idiot.

  • yeah but it is so much easier to bowl with no thumb

  • correction much easier to hook it

  • This guy is the #14 people to thrown 300 on TV

  • Why don't you learn some english... And no he isn't.

  • ok, sorry... yes he was. But you still need to learn to type.

  • Mike Miller was my inspiration as a teenager (bowling wise anyway). I couldn't watch him enough. If I remember right, he did it to save his career. His sister was also on the ladies tour, I believe. I do put my thumb in for right side spares (I'm a righty). There is no hook like it. Amletto Monicelli had a great hook with a thumb in his ball, but done properly, trusting it...well, it goes from gutter to pocket so quick.

  • i cant stand bowling without my thumb, im horrable at it. its a strait gutter, and i usually dont gutter lol

  • if anyone has an movie of it, can it be posted ?

i am bowling for half a year now with a left-side effect with my right hand

first time i did it, it was just for a joke, but later i started training at it, its cool but i havent seen anyone on youtube do it

  • i also throw with no thumb (lost in kinky sex act) and i average 69

  • roflmao

  • to what petersmongo said...you dont have to have any power...my friend throws a 13 at about 13mph and his wrist is fine

  • The first ever pro I've seen doing that, I personally think it's cheating,JMO.

  • You have to be extremely powerful to use the no thumb release and it not hurt your wrist. I'v never had a problem with it. I average 204in three different leagues with no thumb.

  • you use your thumb to throw at spares though, right? thats what most good no thumb bowlers do.

  • Yes definately. Right on!

  • i also throw with out thumb

  • hes a pro, he probably bowls better than u rushsummers

  • no thumb is soo easy to hook..unfortunately power is hard to come by
