WOW! I just uploaded my speedrun of this level and it's a whopping 10:04. I went for the 3 secrets and don't kill anything, but still...

You use a shortcut or three I was to this point unaware of - and I consider myself an excellent Tomb Raider.

I'm going to incorporate some of your route into my own path and see how much time I can shave off.

I'm currently attempting to emulate these speed runs but have hit a problem. I can do this level for example with identical moves but on my old PS1 the character does not seem to run, jump or swim as fast as it does here, What's going on? By doing what you're doing here I can only clock 7 min 59secs. Is there a difference depending on the machine or what?

Do you have the PAL (Europe) version?  I have the North American version and there is a difference in her speed between different versions so that is most likely what's happening to you.

@RadxxRyan Yes I do have the PAL version. I notice that especially in picking up underwater keys it seems much slower and has a significant lag before the action takes place. I've now managed 7mins 45 for this level (I've not mastered that bend jump yet so I have to open the door) and 7:58 for the Cistern. It's nice to know that the disparity in times might not be just down to me being crap at it. Thanks

Wow! No enemy damage and a speed run! Great job! I love some of the short cuts you showed! This is the best Tomb Raider! (Haven't played Anniversary)

if you get lucky and the mummy goes into the stairwell, then you can make a run for it, but those things are fast so it would most likely knock you off the ledge or kill you before you pull the switch and get the artifact. that's why if you stand in the corner, it usually won't come after you.

Oh right! I see. I haven't played TR1 for about 8 years. I'll try it tomorrow and see if it is possible. Lucky that i didn't throw TR1 game into rubbish bin!

Great speed run! However on 01:45 (timecode), is it possible not to kill mummies so you can save some time?
