Isn't there an A5 between the F#5 and the C5? That's how I play it and it still sounds alright. I also play it with the 8th added to it, it kinda adds a bit more body to it.

When you play that f, I believe you come off of the palm mute and strum the power chord during the verse. Makes it sound a lot different, and gives it more dynamics, a better sound. And also on the pre-chorus, you palm mute the d string 4th fret the first time. Also gives it a better sound
