  • After reading the first line of the description, I wonder why this show's version was so rare? Was it taped in the US?

  • Did you ever see Monty do Porn? He was gonna give the Slut door # 3 if she swallowed and door # 1 if she didnt.

  • @walleyrt69 Swallowed what?

  • @MrLogoman007 I must have been drinkin 7 months ago.I think i meant Cum.

  • @walleyrt69 Whatever.

  • @MrLogoman007 Why do you ask?Do you swallow Cum?

  • @walleyrt69 No, I was just curious. I probably should've known better.

  • @walleyrt69 so sad. you have to get people to pay attention to you. are you so desperate for someone, anyone at all, to think you are someone. you are someone! you are a mixed-race man hiding among the good swedes of minnesota. you are someone who wants to be taken by others as a man. but no one will accept you as you are. not a white. not a black. not straight. not gay. you want to belong, but you don't.

  • @Louisehascancer Ha Ha Ha !I know my roots, and they are all from White people. All the way back to Europe even before we made that HORRIBLE mistake of bringing Africans here.Bad mistake.I am Blonde,My kids are Blonde,My grand children are Blonde. You dont even know me.Now go away!

  • Was THAT a zonk at 5:13? It looked like a zonk.

  • I remember this version was shown on KTXL TV-40 in Sacramento, CA, at 12:00 noon weekdays. Then, a TV station in Concord, CA, replayed this version at 6:00 PM.

  • Saw this version in Buffalo on WIVB Channel 4. Showed it various times including early evening, mid morning and even early Saturday evenings.

  • i watched this show with my gramma:)

  • Fussbudget rent-a-car

  • WSNS-TV 44 in Chicago aired this version back in 1980-81.

  • Ths must have been the filmed in CAnada fo the prizes to be so cheap

  • It was taped in Canada, Vancouver to be exact. The company that produced this version with Hatos-Hall, Catalena Productions, were pretty cheap. For another show they produced around the same time, Pitfall, a lot of contestants didn't even get their prizes! They were so short on cash that the host of Pitfall, Alex Trebek, didn't even get one cent from hosting it. He ended up framing the check he received because it was no good.

  • Was Pitfall that game show where contestants dropped down on a platform when they got a question wrong?

  • Indeed it was.

  • Not quite, you're thinking of "Russian Roulette". There are some clips of the bonus round from "Pitfall" on YouTube. Unfortunately the bonus round was the best part of the show, the main game did nothing to embody the show's title.

  • She won $4,000, a new refrigerator, pots & pans, and a washer & dryer.

  • my mom was on this show!!

  • That's awesome! :) How did she do?

  • What's inside the cough drops? Cough drops!

  • And Budget Rent-A-Car as one of this version's sponsors just proves it is the Canadian version - because it is a Canadian company.

  • Budget Rent-a-Car is in the USA, not just Canada.

  • Monty Hall returned to his roots after leaving "Beat the Clock '79". I had never seen this version before because this was in Canada.

  • This aired in America, too.

  • It was very limited in distribution here. I do remember it airing in the NY-metro area (I think WOR, but I'm not certain).

For the record, the intro (that's missing from Supersaver's copy) is a montage of clips from the '75-76 episodes (with the 1980 theme over it)

  • My guess is that not that much American syndicaters bought it.

  • It did indeed air on WOR here in NY, and actually got a decent amount of stateside clearances...more so than Pitfall, which only aired on about a dozen stations in the US!

  • When Monty taped the show in Canada (primarily for U.S. syndication) in the 1980-'81 season, he left Jay Stewart behind, opting for "local" personnel, and, again, using some of the stock music cues Sheldon Allman & Stan Worth wrote for his earlier "SPLIT SECOND" and "MASQUERADE PARTY"...

  • Are any of the Allman/Worth other than cues other than Split Second and The All New LMAD posted anywhere?

  • Thats the kind of crummy grammar that comes from multitasking. Let's try this again:

Are any of the Allman/Worth cues other than Split Second and The All New LMAD posted anywhere?

  • Coming from someone who's Canadian, I remember seeing this version of LMAD airing in syndication on NTV (Newfoundland Television) back in 1981. I didn't view the clip as yet, as I don't have flash player where I am right now, but I will most likely view it later today. NTV canned the reruns I believe sometime in 1984. This will be the first time I've seen this version in any form in almost a quarter of a century.

  • Interesting they still labeled him as "America's Top Trader" and referred to the show as "The Marketplace of America" although it was taped in Canada. That sounds like Jay Stewart to me even though the audio is a bit muddy. I have never seen this version before so thanks for posting it.

  • Nope, that's Chuck Chandler. I have no idea who he is either.

  • Last I heard/read Chuck Chandler is on a radio station in eastern Canada.

  • That's why I've never heard of him.

  • They had the vertical blind curtains too? Just like the 1984 and 1990 versions did.

  • It's Time for Let's Make a Deal

  • ZONK! ZONK! ZONK!

  • Nice Find!

  • Also: Why is Monty Hall refered to as "America's Top Trader" when the show was produced in Canada in 1980? And did you notice the money used in the 1980 LMAD was LMAD play money with Monty's face on it? (Any luck finding some on e-bay)?

  • Even the grocery products like Luden's Cough Drops and Turtle Wax are seen for their American versions and not Canadian packaging (which shows English and French writing).

  • Maybe Gamer TV Canada could rerun LMAD 1980 (and Pitfall) someday.

For the Budget Rent-a-Car deal? $22 for a rental car in New York City??

  • I'm not so sure about that. It could possibly be difficult to find that many tapes in good enough condition to air on digital cable or satellite. I doubt "Pitfall" would for sure because Alex has been quoted as calling it "one of the great tragedies of my life".

  • I meant Game TV Canada, which is Canada's version of GSN (Heck, the channel reruns "The Mad Dash"!)

  • It's New Westminster, British Columbia, not New York City!

  • You. Are. Awesome.

  • Bad quality. But at least it's not out-of-sync.

  • Hard to believe that it would take 3 or 4 years to put Let's Make a Deal back on the air again in syndication.

  • This must be the short-lived early '80s Canadian-produced version of LMaD.

Why, b/c the big deal money values were much cheaper than the U.S. versions.

  • this might've also been when monty was hosting split second

  • No, this predates Monty's "Split Second" by six years.

  • And no, Monty was fresh off from doing "Beat The Clock."

But given Catalena Productions' attitude, no wonder why LMAD '80 and "Pitfall" got little or no clearance in the U.S.! Even Alex Trebek couldn't cash his "Pitfall" paycheck, though he didn't mind because his bank account would later shoot up to the millions in 1984.

  • Too bad GSN doesn't have the 1980 version in its LMAD rerun package, same for the 1990 Bob Hilton/Monty Hall version and the 2003 Billy Bush version.

  • Actually, LMaD '80 got far more clearance than Pitfall...the latter only aired on about a dozen US stations!

  • It was the LMAD brand name that enticed the stations to carry the show...only to find out it was originated in Canada with cheapened Big Deals, fake money (Monty Dollars) in lieu of real money, no Jay Stewart, and two unknown models trying to pass off as Carol Merrill!! At least it was nice to see Monty back home in his native land.

Things got a bit better when the show returned to the States in '84.

  • The notoriously cheap version of the show. "Trato Hecho" (the Univision version) was just as cheap.

  • Trato Hecho might have been cheap, but that's only because it was on Univision. It was very well produced, and very true to the original.

  • Yes, but most of the items used in the pricing deals came from The Home Depot. And when you assume that Mexican-Americans do a lot of home improvement, that's really making an assumption.

The "Gran Trato" (Big Deal) on the daytime version was between $3-5K, while a few special nighttime shows had a $26K "Trato".

"Sabado Gigante" has a larger budget.

  • For this version, Hatos-Hall did it in association with Catalena Productions, who also did Pitfall. Catalena was already having financial difficulties, which is why they decreased the prize budget later in the Pitfall run. As a result, the check that Alex Trebek received for hosting Pitfall was a dud.

  • Rhodes Productions syndicated it here in the US.

  • It was later learned that the "Monty Dollars" could be exchanged for US or Canadian dollars, and contestants would choose US currency.

  • Pitfall was seen here in Portland on KPTV-12 in 1981.
