I've been very busy.On the Alto thing, though It's true that it is a voice type in Choral or Choir singing..Which is where I really started training my voice.I'm currently sing in the choir and is was in Chorus during School,my teacher always taught us that the girls with lower ranges were Alto's. I haven't seen any arguments found or any information that suggest that Altos are just Mezzo's.

@aquamarine11500 alto isn't a real vocal type. Its just a line sang in choir by "low" female voices. Heck tenors sing in the alto line a lot. Most altos in choir are usually just mezzos. Speaking of which monica is one. Mezzos as they older get a darker,fuller, more matgure timbre. Beyonce, whitney, and christina are perfect examples of this. Monica has never shown much rangte but range doesn't determine vocal type. Yeah kelly does have a strong voice but michelle surpasses her in power.

I've been very busy.On the Alto thing, though It's true that it is a voice type in Choral or Choir singing..Which is where I really started training my voice.I'm currently sing in the choir and is was in Chorus during School,my teacher always taught us that the girls with lower ranges were Alto's. I haven't seen any arguments found or any information that suggest that Altos are just Mezzo's.
I believe they are separate.

Beyonce's voice has matured a bit,but she still sounds nothing like an "alto",her voice is still relatively soprano sounding,you may believe she sounds more alto now because she growls a lot lately while belting,and her tone is a bit husky. I mean Have you listened to love on top??

@MrButler124 Whitney's voice did NOT not only darken and deepen to extent of an Alto because of Age and maturity,but also Nodules and Of course Drugs.Whitney is now an Alto I believe.
Christina still sounds like a Soprano too,but i really agree wit this one. Her tone darkened a lot due to vocal damage and singing improperly.shes not taking care of her voice.Like Beyonce,Xtina may sound Alto-ish or mezzo because of her singing style,shes a Growler when she belts so..yeah

People like Toni Braxton,Anita Baker and Monica..they are Alto's.
They have a very extensive lower range,but they don't have as much of a broad range all around .They generally sing better in their lower registers,when compared to MiMi who excels all around.They have a pretty solid mid chest,but not upper.Im sorry but I respectfully disagree.

@aquamarine11500 alto isn't a real vocal type. Its just a line sang in choir by "low" female voices. Heck tenors sing in the alto line a lot. Most altos in choir are usually just mezzos. Speaking of which monica is one. Mezzos as they older get a darker,fuller, more matgure timbre. Beyonce, whitney, and christina are perfect examples of this. Monica has never shown much rangte but range doesn't determine vocal type. Yeah kelly does have a strong voice but michelle surpasses her in power.

@MrButler124 Monica may have been a Mezzo back in the day when she first came out,but NOW I believe she's more along the lines of an Alto,her voice has deepened and matured,and again she doesn't have much display of range.Fantastic singer,but not a singer for such vocal stylings/Transitions and melisma of Mariah's songs.
Brandy I agree,i believe she's contralto
One thing about Kelly is that, behind Beyonce she had the second most powerful voice in DC, & coming from a group she can harmonize
