Brilliant video mate! This is why many fans (including myself) have turned their attention to the lower leagues, where football is still alive.
It may not be the prettiest football, but makes up for it with good old terracing, banter, and lack of prima-donnas chasing money at 1/5 of the price it costs to watch top flight. And I won't be coming back anytime soon.
anfield is prime example. a stadium in the middle of a very deprived area, were overpriced, overpaid, overated, overseas pirates come for the working class money. which they do not even return that debt with loyalty. the people, the fans, the area, all are left behind. but this is what the economy is driven to in all aspects of popular cultured entertainment. motherfucking bloodsucking profit driven exploitation.
When will this world reborn? So many things are just not right and have to be set straight. In these years everything what was beautiful is ruined. Jesus I Dont wanna live in this world
I fear this thing of ours is beyond repair. Players wages are a joke, tickets prices are scandalous, soulless bowls for grounds, fans are treated like dirt by their own clubs, you can't drink in the ground, you can't smoke in the ground, you can't put up a flag, you can't stand up, you can't swear, you can't do anything. Yet we take it and do nothing. After all what can we do? If we kick up a fuss we'll only get banned and be replaced by a nobhead in a replica and a jester hat. Dark days.
the premiership is descending into farce and will implode within the next 5 years its ridiculous the amount of money that nobodies like burnley and stoke are gettin for getting relagated and have the fuckin cheek to charge people mad amounts of money when they'll always be nobodies in football terms. the league is in the state its in because there's a market for fat english yobs to sit on their arse all weekend drink a crate of stella watch football all weekend then beat their wife
Great vid,4 years on from your video and it only seems to get more expensive and less about the fans than the players wages. I saw my team (Burnley) promoted to the premier last year but I was so far away in the stand I didn't feel involved,(£74) all the rainy nights at Macclesfield, Brighton on Boxing day stared to feel like the good times. I've started supporting Squires Gate FC £5 a ticket, friendly banter, chat to players and chairmen. tvblackpoolcom

Old trafford use to have great support in the 90's. I remember one time when united played dortmound in the champions league and both united and dortmound supporters were singing "were gonna win the league, were gonna win the league" both sets of fans were singing their hearts out that night. But nowadays there's these people called glory hunters that arnt even from Manchester and dont even sing I just find that disgraceful
You say that high ticket prices means real fans cannnot watch, if you were a real fan you would pay no matter what the prices are so that arugement is poor.
Terraces were dangerous and terribily outdated so they had to be destroyed.
you need to fuck off you clueless bastard. what if people simply don't have the money to pay the fuckin ludicrous prices? if they haven't got it, what the fuck can they do? you are such a prick!
@KopiteP250505 Okay look I am arguing with you already about terraces, every arguement i make, you ignore so you are clueless, stop using words like that they are unnecessary, you are the reason hoolaginism happened and you are the reason terraces are banned. All Seater Stadiums for life!!!!!!!! At Least I get what i want, you dont.
I think this video is so bloody true its unreal, Iv never quite accepted the brittania as home. I long for the days stood at the back of the old boothen end.
Im a Cardiff City fan and having been to around 80 different grounds in the UK and Europe with City and Wales i have to say all the best memories are of terreces and older grounds.Ninian Park was worth 12 points a season to us cos away teams and fans hated coming there!! our new staduim is the same as leicester/swansea/coventry etc soulless and same old dour bowl.

I go to whichever end we're shooting at, I shout abuse, I swear, I cheer on my team.
You don't get what I get in Modern Football, feel genuinly sorry for the REAL FANS of England.
I`m a Glentoran fan too and totally agree. Many of the English grounds are soulless. There`s something about smelling those burgers when youre squeezing through the turnstyles at Seaview on a cold saturday afternoon.
@Tuco2834 Good to see you found my post mate, aye totally agree. Today was what it's about! Moving terrace as usual, laughing at Woy McCreadie, all good.
An example of Traditional Football, cold Friday Night going to Limavady (160 round mile trip), standing behind the net, no terrace, no stand, just a wall, no roof. Raining, 1-0 defeat, terrible match overall. Was bad at the time, but looking back, was still one of those things that make being a real football fan all the better.
I`ve always been a gooner but if I lived in England I would pick a team from the lower divisions to support every week. The fans are more valued at the small clubs where every tenner at the gate and every programme sold counts. You can get closer to and make your opinions heard by those that count....."McDonald Out!"
Atmosphere wise, English aren't the best (club wise, international we're still the best) but you can't compare any country to the passion that we have. Comparing English to American atmosphere is a joke...yanks cannot generate REAL passion. MLS is a joke of a league.
England used to be the country where they had the best atmosphere, now England probably has the worst atmosphere in the world. It's close to USA stadiums now, no atmosphere, only rich people in the stadium who only want to watch the game and go home (and don't care for the rest) instead of the real fans.
Ah well, your own fault for always following the American model :)
I was there!, i was gonna do my normal walk-in routine like what i usually do when wimbledon played there (they open the exit gates at half-time & i simply just walk in, it didn't matter so much with wimbledon, their crowds were so low u could literally sit down on the floor with some sandwiches & still have a clear view of the game) surprisingly, they let me in the holmesdale, took 1 look at it, & thought "fuck that", place was HEAVING & i was just a boy at the time. 30,000 in that day.
We in Germany are damn lucky that this did not happen to us yet.Terraces are still allowed.Even the most modern stadia in germany have terraces (e.g.Veltins-Arena has 17000 standing places and ranks as UEFA Elite stadium )
Also we have the 50+1 rule, which doesnt allow an club to sell more than 49 % of its shares,so there is more competition and no club can be sold to assholes like Malcolm Glazer and Roman Abramowitsch who throw millions in to buy players and make the championship unfair.
If the NFL and other American circus enterprises could unload some of the SKY-box morons from association football, that would be good I think.
On the other hand, one cannot just sit and stare at old days. It's not 'modernity' that is the main problem. Theoretically it is possible to build standing areas into modern football venues too. But that would signal the end of the world I guess. So effective has the brain wash of the middle classes turned out to be.
football has gone. i would say the coca cola championship is the best league in england at the moment not just because the team i support have failed and got into that league (nottingham forest) but because of the passion still lies in there. just look at the premier league now. how do u expect teams like burnley and birmingham city to compete in that league? with clubs like manchester city and chelsea with toooo much money. lets all hope these clubs go bust. SAY NO TO MODERN FOOTBALL!!!
football in holland is also dead i am an Ajax supporter en in 1996 our old stadium was broken to the ground there was there a atmosphere unknown in our country but then we moved to the amsterdam Arena and we were placed like 20 meters of the pitch and the club rent the stadium so the seats are in ugly colors and when we left the old stadium in 96 we were champions of holland for the 26 time en won 5 cl and since we are playing in the new stadium we won the cup of holland 3 times...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Football is a gay sport now with all different supporters and mega million sponsers.Look at Man City, they become rich and everyone supports them. That didnt happen many years ago.Crowds used to be so alive.Anfield is the only stadium with the same atmosphere these days.We still sing and chant when liverpool are losing.Man United used to be so alive but now they leave if united are losing.
yer but every 1 is earning alot more money then they bak in the day but yer football aint the same as it used 2 b. u used 2 be able 2 punch a player in his face on the pitch and u wud neva get sent off
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i understand what your saying but do u remember hillsborough, ibrox etc. a thers nothing wrong with all seater stadia atmosphere is generated by the fans not by whether u r standing or sitting, the clubs have priced a lot of fans out of the game so it is up to them to show loyalty back to the fans by helping with free transport, fairer pricing etc...
id say dah the old days were great buh ill never knw buh im lucky cummin frm ireland deres still a few terraces left buh the numbers are gettin smaller nd i love my football & my team (athlone town football club)
i have a season ticket nd i follow athlone home nd away no matter of cost nd distance
@ohathlonetown You are saying Modern Football is killing all this yet I gaurantee you support some team like Arsenal or Liverpool or Man United like mad.
i agrea standing should be brought back i remember going to the last game at stokes old victoria gorund and the atmousphere is fantastic and then we move to our new hoe but we dont seem to have lost the atmosphere i mean most people at the back of the boothen end stand up anyway but we have a great crowd you just have to stand outside on matchday and the noise he crowd makes for 90mins and me been a season ticket holder in the boothen end i have this great atmosphere week in and week out.
very true, I'm not sure if I'll ever go more than once to Cardiff City's new ground (sorry, am I allowed to say ground or does it have to be stadium now!) altho when they put seats in the main terrace 15 years ago they ruined the old place to be honest. I went down there and saw them doing it, i was heartbroken. That pic of them tearin up Burnley's place brought it all back...:O(
I'm a Bristol Rovers fan (League 1) and so luckily we still have terraces but soon we will follow the lead of many clubs and move into a souless all seater bowl. it will be a sad day for me when our largely terraced stadium in knocked down to be replaced by a carbon copy of many stadiums up and down the country.
However much I agree with the narrative of the video, how the hell have the FL managed to allow teams to have standing at their grounds nearly twenty years after Hillsborough?
It's not SKy that's killing football, it's the sheer hypocracy of those at Soho Square that's killing it.
Top 2 tiers are not allowed standing due to inflated attendances. Lower two divisions are but its harder for clubs to incorporate standing into new stadia. .
Here at Chesterfield we wanted standing areas for the new ground but would only recieve grants if the ground was made all seater. It fucking stinks, terracing has been 99.9999999% safe for the last 100 years. The only time its unsafe is when its not managed correctly, which is also the same for seating areas. The Ellis Stadium disaster in South Africa for example. It really angers me, i love standing on the kop at Chesterfield. I will shed more than a tear if we have to leave
Want to stand at football matches? Then go to Germany, were the prices to watch Bayern are as little as £8 (12 Euros), and alcohol is allowed in the stand, and to top it all off, the stewards are the nicest bunch of people you'll ever meet.
But yes, Sky has ruined football, and it's only going to get worse.
Premiership football is geared for the middle classes, its not the working mans game anymore.
Membership schemes, buying tickets six to eight weeks in advance, banning orders for standing up, its bollocks. better off going and supporting your local non-league side.
Someone who gets into a brawl in the stadia/ outside which they havent planned they are not a fucking hooligan. Thats just football. Some of the people quietly guzzling their pimms and munching on their sweeties at HT need to get a fuckin grip. Football is meant for all types, don't let the daily mail crew take over.
Good video well made and quite right, but why stop at football, its in all sports now. but the3 soccer model is one of the worst. I am waiting till the Pound goes through the floor, and watch all the foreign players leave in droves!
Fairplay i agree, apart from gers and hoops fans, i have the up-most respect for scottish football go-ers. Its the fuckin bandwagoners supporting the big four that piss me off, especially the ones that spout bullshit.
Nice work. I'm a third generation Evertonian n I'm proud we're still at Goodison. They're after moving us to a soulless shed in Kirkby. Well I won't be moving with em if they do. For me, football's about passion, humour, history, camaraderie n loyalty to your roots. Money hunger's fcked the game I loved. Good on the likes of F.C. United of Manchester n the other REAL supporters' clubs.
97 moutim, I hope that sometime I meet you and can buy you a drink for that....absolutely brilliant, and as an old git who has been to most of the places shown very sad too!
We are lucky over here in that many of our grounds still have terracingm as Northern Ireland wasn't a part of the Taylor plan.. having said that, we suffered financially in that regard as many of our grounds are still 1950's style, with a few rebuilding with new all seater stands.. my own club included.
Being 16 I have never really experience terracing. But I have in a couple of non-league grounds - you cannot beat it. If terraces are kept at a strict capacity and the pissheads are kept out, there would be no problems at all.
football is a rich mans game now. There will always be some supporters who have passion but there are too many people who have no passion at all. Great vid, really sums u english football
the players wages are killing the game it is a privalige to be called a professional footballer is that not enough. do they still want to be payed £100,000 A WEEK!!!
our game is going down the shitter, with all these foreign owners coming in with their billions buying success, and are only in it to make a profit. another thing i hate is these new stadiums being built, were seeing great traditional grounds being replaced by identikit shitholes with corporate names.soon enough anfield, goodison park, upton park, fratton park, ninian park and many more will be gone forever.
how long before the only true root and meaning of the game left these days is taken away too? I'm talking about the magic of the FA Cup 1st 2nd and 3rd rounds where it belongs to the smaller clubs, get down to your local non league club..your non league club needs you!
I know we laughed at it at the time but even the film When Saturday Comes hits home some of the points in this clip!
sky now want one premiership game to be played in asia every season. you have got to be fucking joking!!!
i support liverpool who have had a reputation for great atmosphere since the birth of the club. however liverpool is one of the poorest cities in the country and with rising prices in tickets our atmosphere will soon go! sad times indeed!!!
I find it best watching Non-League football nowadays. My local team is Bamber Bridge in the Unibond Division 1.All the players are semi-pro and have full time jobs but they play thier hearts out for the team.I suggest everyone should start doing this instead of watching these players who care nothing for thier teams just the money. You just watch all the players that move to Manchester City in January, they care nothing about the team just money.
Few things piss me off like the rape of football by the greedy corporate elites. Sky = Scum. Premiership Glory Heads = Scum. To me terrace WERE football. In Germany they have "safe standing areas" and we should push for that. Families should stick to the FAMILY STAND.
brilliant its sad whats happend a fucking discrace i know loads of old school whats fucked it of because of ticket prices and shit atmosphere proper ticket prices should be 15 pound in the premiership,championship£10 first div£8 and second div£6
i wasn't around in the old day's as im only 18 but that video is a great point's out everything that's wrong in todays football but was at aldershot yesterday & that's proper old skool
Like said in other post's im part of an 'ultra' group and some of the problems we had at matches are unbelievable, from having banners removed because they were 'blocking' advertising board's to having flag's removed because they are a 'fire hazard' or the stick's that come with the flag are seen as a potential weapon. The FA need to have a major think before they kill our most loved sport.
One way to combat this modern day corporate prawn sandwich football is to unsubscribe from Sky Sports!
or even Sky for that matter.
take away their funding for the football, meaning clubs get less money, meaning they will have to cut players wages, or even hike up their corporate prices.
i am gutted that i missed the real terraces. the atmosphere at rochdale home games is poor, this is due to the no standing policy and the fact that the singers get sepperated. on terracing they can all move so that you have a big group of singers in the stand. however at away games the atmosphere that we create is quality down to the fact that all the singers stand together and make as much noise as possible. it jsut goes to show that the ability to stand together does improve atmospheres
glad leeds r still @ elland road! great atmosphere in a classic old ground! im a liverpool fan and miss the leeds v liverpool games! hope you come up this year with gary mac!
Awesome video mate can remember my first game at Leeds back in 83 as a 10 year old in the boys pen.Looking on to the kop in awe and thinking that looks ace.

If they will ever try to do that in Sweden, there will be a war and a riot. We will not allow this to happen.

Football is a gay sport now with all different supporters and mega million sponsers.Look at Man City, they become rich and everyone supports them. That didnt happen many years ago.Crowds used to be so alive.Anfield is the only stadium with the same atmosphere these days.We still sing and chant when liverpool are losing.Man United used to be so alive but now they leave if united are losing.

i understand what your saying but do u remember hillsborough, ibrox etc. a thers nothing wrong with all seater stadia atmosphere is generated by the fans not by whether u r standing or sitting, the clubs have priced a lot of fans out of the game so it is up to them to show loyalty back to the fans by helping with free transport, fairer pricing etc...

i agrea standing should be brought back i remember going to the last game at stokes old victoria gorund and the atmousphere is fantastic and then we move to our new hoe but we dont seem to have lost the atmosphere i mean most people at the back of the boothen end stand up anyway but we have a great crowd you just have to stand outside on matchday and the noise he crowd makes for 90mins and me been a season ticket holder in the boothen end i have this great atmosphere week in and week out.

very true, I'm not sure if I'll ever go more than once to Cardiff City's new ground (sorry, am I allowed to say ground or does it have to be stadium now!) altho when they put seats in the main terrace 15 years ago they ruined the old place to be honest.

It's not SKy that's killing football, it's the sheer hypocracy of those at Soho Square that's killing it.
county4life 3 years ago
Top 2 tiers are not allowed standing due to inflated attendances. Lower two divisions are but its harder for clubs to incorporate standing into new stadia. .
spire1997 3 years ago
Here at Chesterfield we wanted standing areas for the new ground but would only recieve grants if the ground was made all seater. It fucking stinks, terracing has been 99.9999999% safe for the last 100 years. The only time its unsafe is when its not managed correctly, which is also the same for seating areas. The Ellis Stadium disaster in South Africa for example. It really angers me, i love standing on the kop at Chesterfield. I will shed more than a tear if we have to leave
spire1997 3 years ago 2
Want to stand at football matches? Then go to Germany, were the prices to watch Bayern are as little as £8 (12 Euros), and alcohol is allowed in the stand, and to top it all off, the stewards are the nicest bunch of people you'll ever meet.
But yes, Sky has ruined football, and it's only going to get worse.

Membership schemes, buying tickets six to eight weeks in advance, banning orders for standing up, its bollocks. better off going and supporting your local non-league side.

Someone who gets into a brawl in the stadia/ outside which they havent planned they are not a fucking hooligan. Thats just football.

We are lucky over here in that many of our grounds still have terracingm as Northern Ireland wasn't a part of the Taylor plan.. having said that, we suffered financially in that regard as many of our grounds are still 1950's style, with a few rebuilding with new all seater stands.. my own club included.
LeviathanNI 3 years ago
Being 16 I have never really experience terracing. But I have in a couple of non-league grounds - you cannot beat it. If terraces are kept at a strict capacity and the pissheads are kept out, there would be no problems at all.

how long before the only true root and meaning of the game left these days is taken away too? I'm talking about the magic of the FA Cup 1st 2nd and 3rd rounds where it belongs to the smaller clubs, get down to your local non league club..your non league club needs you!

FINALLY! Someone who makes sense and speaks the truth in the good game of football that is being ruined by:
- Too many foreigners in English football
- Corrupt FA bosses/Premier League bosses etc.
- Overpaid Football players (Ronaldo gets paid 120,000 a week to cry and dream of a move to Real Madrid,Frank Lampard etc)
- Greedy clubs (just watch out for Man City)
- Football thugs (Joey Barton)
- TOO high prices for tickets, food & drink

Like said in other post's im part of an 'ultra' group and some of the problems we had at matches are unbelievable, from having banners removed because they were 'blocking' advertising board's to having flag's removed because they are a 'fire hazard' or the stick's that come with the flag are seen as a potential weapon. The FA need to have a major think before they kill our most loved sport.
toonultrawaity 3 years ago
One way to combat this modern day corporate prawn sandwich football is to unsubscribe from Sky Sports!
or even Sky for that matter.
take away their funding for the football, meaning clubs get less money, meaning they will have to cut players wages, or even hike up their corporate prices.

foggy691 3 years ago
i am gutted that i missed the real terraces. the atmosphere at rochdale home games is poor, this is due to the no standing policy and the fact that the singers get sepperated. on terracing they can all move so that you have a big group of singers in the stand. however at away games the atmosphere that we create is quality down to the fact that all the singers stand together and make as much noise as possible. it jsut goes to show that the ability to stand together does improve atmospheres
