@candycandy57 Try with getting an AMD Phenom II 3.2 x6 processor, and 8GB of ram. My computer cost $545 dollars and my family each put in $100 for it. I put in $140. Try "raising the funds" for a good computer. Better than trying to raise a lump sum by yourself. I'm 12 by the way.

@candycandy57 When I was your age I loved inlet too, simply because they were an easy choice, generic, and cheap. But what I didnt know at the time was all the alternatives I could have gotten if I had only known they existed. I am now 100% AMD.

Long story short, Intel may perform a little better in the top sector and be in more computers, but AMD outperforms absolutely everything Intel has in terms of value. Send me a PM, I'd be glad to help. Oh yea, and Intel does illegal things

@candycandy57 Intel wants nothing more than to kill of the competition so they can charge you 2x as much for the same amount of money. Back in 2006, Intel actually started paying companies like Dell, Compaq, HP, eMachines, and IBM to not use AMD chips, and as a result, AMD fell behind and the manufacturers all use Intel by habit (as do a lot of consumers like you). Go AMD now, and it will only make it easier on you in the future. The new Fusion APUs from AMD arent too bad either :)

I decided to go all out and build a PC, no expense spared. The PC I built cost me ~£700, but ready built it would cost considerably more. But I don't just see the saving as the cost between my PC and one ready built.

I'll also save with the longevity of my PC. Most PCs I've bought in the past have started to seem inadequate after just a year or two; but building a PC allows you to select parts for longevity and in 2-4 years my PC will still be good, so I won't need to buy a new one.

this was back in 2007, alienware is actually cheaper than building your own, in just the aurora, you would spend $2000+ on the components, but the build i chose to buy is the $1559 with a few extra specs and a few accessories. 2 tb of hard drive space, crossfire graphics, tv tuner, liquid cooled, vented to the max, geat specs overall. been playing portal 2 on it recently, it also plays the original crisis with 91 fps and no (absolutely no) lag. if you want a custom, go for it, ill stick to mine

god, i hate buying pre-builts.... the last one i bought was from dell. i bought an xps 410 and a dimension e520. both of them are total trash compared to a custom built pc for the same price. if you have the know how like i do with computers, AND you already have the OS you want, just go ahead and build your own. the other upside to building than buying, you can overclock it so you can keep up with the current tech and save some money later on with upgrading.
