If I had to make a list of the greatest talkers in the wrestling world would be1." The American Dream"Dusty Rhodes 2. Roddy Piper 3. Ric Flair 4.The Rock 5.Stone Cold Steve Austin 6.Sting 7. Hulk Hogan 8.Randy Savage 9.Ultimate Warrior 10. "Super"Star Billy Graham
@lovejava04 Hogan was lazy in my opinion all he talked about in his promo was his vitamins, prayers and all american shit. Sting though he is my favorite wrestler of all time. he wasn't the best talker as he made it up in the ring. and the Ultimate Warrior has to be in the top ten worse promo cutters of all time. I had no idea wtf he was talking about
@45Yankeeclipper Most of Hulk Hogans match was coming out ripping orr his shirt, taking steroids, and putting his hands up to his ears...LOL He was mostly a show manship and ALL HULK HOGANS MATCHES LASTED AROUND 5 OR 10 MINUTES
@lovejava04 Best talkers in wrestling history: 1. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, 2. Randy "Macho Man" Savage, 3. Jake "The Snake" Roberts 4. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, 5. The Rock, 6. Mick Foley, 7. Shawn Michaels, 8. "Superstar" Billy Graham, 9. Road Warrior Hawk, 10. Jesse "The Body" Ventura
If i had to make a list of the greatest talkers in our business it would be 1. Ric Flair 2. Randy Savage 3. Stone Cold Steve Austin 4. Dusty Rhodes 5. Shawn Micheals 6. Roddy Piper 7. The Rock 8. Scott Hall 9. Raven 10. Rick Rude
Dusty was one of ,if not the best wrestler to ever cut a promo. He made the wrestling fans felt what he felt and guess what? He didnt have to take steroids to do it!!!
dont like to be a hater, and dusty was way before my time, the man almost needs subtitles and i wouldnt wanna be eating dinner while lookin at that face.

I like Edge even as a Heel but Hollywood Hogan the Heel left an impact on me. As people couldn't stand him fake or not fake. And I thought he had great mic skills. You want to talk about guys now that are great heels with mic Skills. Chris Jericho from WCW to now he was awesome on the mic. Also "The Franchise" Shane Douglas was one of my favorites as well.

Oh god! This is fantastic! This is why I got hooked on Championship Wrestling from Florida with Gordon Solie -- it was promos and characters like this that had me glued to the TV every Saturday! Thanks for posting -- Dusty was the working class Muhammad Ali and I loved him!
Best of the Best ever on the mic 10-1: 10. Stone Cold Steve Austin 9. Mick Foley 8. Rowdy Roddy Piper 7. Arn Anderson 6. Jake "The Snake" Roberts 5. Shawn Michaels 3(tie)Superstar Billy Graham - extremely influential even 30 years later; the black Muhammad Ali; Preacher in real life 3(tie)American Dream Dusty Rhodes 2. The Rock - funny, innovative, original 1. Ric Flair - The Gold Standard; Nature Boy never cut a bad promo Top 5 should be required viewing for any wannabe wrestler....
Great work on your top 20. You know everyone will have an opinion where somebody should be. Nice to see you have Jake Roberts & Nick Bockwinkel on the list. Top 5 should be required viewing for any wannabe wrestler..... Maybe the WWE need to send videos of promos of the top 10 to FCW. Wrestlers of the PG generation promos sucks.
Thank you very much. It was a lot of research but seeing Superstar and Jake changed my whole concept of how good a promo should be. I welcome everybody's comments
Come up with your own list then. I am more than satisfied with my Top 20. Jake is one of the masters of the mic. Scott Hall's drinking problems hurt him. Million Dollar Man was good, but not top 10 good.
lol no need to get so defensive, I agree with a lot of your list but I was just stating the parts I disagreed with. Scott Halls drinking hurt his chances to be a world champ but it didn't change the fact that he was great on the mic, which is what the list is about isn't it? Your being too dismissive of MDM too, one of the greatest heels ever. I think you are overrating Shawn Michaels too, he wasn't better on the mic than MDM and he certainly wasn't better than Jake..
MAD MIC SKILLS TOP TEN 01. Ric Flair 02. Dusty Rhodes (very close to Flair) 03. Brian Pillman 04. The Rock 05. Stone Cold Steve Austin 06. Shawn Michaels 07. Jake "The Snake" Roberts 08. Hulk Hogan 09. The Undertaker 10. Scott Hall This is my top ten, take it or leave it. You don't have to agree with it.
Your list was credible until you left out Superstar Billy Graham. It shows that it wasn't researched and thus, lacks all credibility. I will leave it. No way "Pillman's got a gun" is better than the Superstar. Next time try doing some research. At least I researched mine. No Arn Anderson? No Mick Foley? Hogan worst ever on the mic. Sell
Yes, how could I forget those guys!? Double A definitely deserves to be in there as does Foley. Why I put Hogan in there, I don't know. I think I may have been drunk.
It's pretty sad that you can't form an opinion of your own, and the only essential research for that is actually having seen the wrestlers doing a promo. Something you evidently have not, since you had to do 'research' before posting. Does putting down what other people think really make you feel better about not being able to think for yourself?
You GTFO of here yourself. Hogan, Hart and Warrior are considered to be three of the worse ever on the mic. I'm real fine with my Top 20 all time on the mic. Hogan was horrible. So bad that Vince made Hogan work from the same script always.
Considered by whom? There's no general consensus that Hogan and Hart are among the "worst" ever. Opinion's fine, but don't state it like it's fact. Hart was a pretty good promo - basic, simple, but to the point and fiery. Hogan's promos are NOT that bad, just very formulaic.
you forgot a shitload of wrestlers. Here's a good list my top ten. #1. The Rock #2. Stone Cold Steve Austin #3. Mick Foley #4. Hollywood Hogan #5. Eddie Guerrero #6. Rowdy Piper #7. Scott Hall #8. Scott Steiner #9. Raven #10. Road Dogg
This list is a joke just like the person who put it together with no regard for the Superstars and Dustys and Brodys and Bockwinkels and Flairs who came before these people. Nice to see you got a healthy mix of drunks and drug addicts on your list. Your list gets a D-.
The BEST EVER ON THE MIC 10-1: 1. Ric Flair - no list that excludes him is valid. 2. The Rock 3. Superstar Billy Graham - the most influential in the last 30 years (see Hogan, Steiner and Ventura; the white Ali; preacher in real life. 3. Dusty Rhodes - too hard to separate him from Graham. 5. Shawn Michaels - see Montreal masterpieces 6. Jake "The Snake" Roberts 7. Arn Anderson 8. Rowdy Roddy Piper 9, Stone Cold Steve Austin 10. Mick Foley Hogan one of the worst ever on the mic. 8.
I forgot Shawn Michaels I remember his Infamous Montreal promo where he was calling out Bret. Arn Anderson was okay but he wasn't part of my generation. I grew up watching NWO & The additude Era I wasn't even born around the 80's. Also You dont' like Hollyhood Hogan?! he was great on the mic back in WCW he was one of the few people to bring so much heat that fans would throw trash in the ring when he talked. I got a question what did you think of Raven? have you seen his old ECW Promos?
Yes, I've seen his ECW promos. A few people suggested Raven. One even called him a darker version of Jake the Snake.I never could get into Raven and I tried. Hogan always worked from the script and it was always the same. The only guy I feel bad about leaving off is Terry Funk.
I guess cuz we come from a different generation of wrestling. I can tell you grew up to the likes of Ric flair, Dusty Rhodes, The Four Housemen and Terry Funk. The one thing we can agree on is Wrestling now is Horrible!!!
Oh be fair - even if you don't think Hogan's great on the mike, you can't think he's one of the worst ever? There are plenty of piss-poor guys on the stick who rank lower than Hogan - Road Warrior Animal, Greg Valentine, Ken Patera, Hardcore Holly, Virgil, Tito Santana, Lance Storm, Rhyno, Sam Houston, Andre, X-Pac, Bagwell, Scott Norton, Mongo McMichael, Dean Malenko, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Charlie Haas (when not doing impressions), Shelton Benjamin, Goldberg and Bobby Lashley to name a few!
Hammer Valentine was actually okay. The Rock owned Hogan in a promo once and it showed how boring and predictable Hogan's promos are. Even in NWO, before the sauce, Hall was outshining Hogan. Same boring script. Vince knew Hogan couldn't improvise beyond, "Whatcha gonna do..................?" Hogan would be revered in wrestling now if he just would have put over a few guys: Michaels, Sting and I mean willingly put them over.
I think that putting Billy Graham above Piper, Rhodes and StoneCold is giving Graham too much credit. Graham could talk, but wasn't as entertaining as those three. Bob Backlund deserves to be put as the all time worst wrestler on the mic. Hogen could cut an interview, but when live, he had problems.
The Superstar is right where he belongs. He is widely regarded as the most influential on the mic in wrestling in the last 30 years. The list of men who copied Graham is a who's who of pro wrestling: Hogan, Steiner and Ventura who openly calls Graham his idol and countless others.
@capitalismforever Well, you're certainly entitled to your wrong opinion :P
Nah, just kidding. It's all a matter of opinion, and you're entitled to yours. I love Flair, but for me, Piper, Big Dust, The Rock, Chris Jericho and Jake Roberts are my top five.
@EvenflowBlack You could be right because I quit watching wrestling in the early 90's. Although I've seen The Rock, I don't know much about him and I know nothing about Chris Jericho other than I've heard of him. I'm an old school fan. Take care.
Best of the Best on the mic 20-11: 20. Austin Idol 19. Big Cat Ernie Ladd 18. Curt Hennig "Mr. Perfect" 17. Road Warrior Hawk 16. Ole Anderson 15. Bruiser Brody 14. Tully Blanchard 13. Chris Jericho/Ravishing Rick Rude 12. Michael P.S. Hayes 11. Nick Bockwinkel Where's Hogan? Flair? Jake the Snake? DiBiase? Hart? Michaels? Superstar? Taker? Big Dust? First I sleep then i post 10-1......missing this would be........shameful!!
ok seriously if anyone started talking bout how the beating they were going to give someone was going to be shameful, youd laugh your ass off, most of these guys just dont have any original personality
With all the "Boogeyman" talk, I'm surprised no one has asked if this is where Jim Ross got "Jezebel" from. Cause he sure likes to use it. Thoughts anyone?
Baby Doll talked about her heel turn in Charlotte when she placed Ric Flair's leg on the ropes. The whole place gasped. And remember the mysterious envelope? It was supposed to show Dusty in bed with a black woman with Dusty wearing lingerie. Coincidentally, he would join up with Sapphire in the WWE a year and a half later.
I love watching this clip years later after I first saw it. Probably one of the best promos I have ever seen. When he says "I know you better than anyone" you actually believe him.
Plus there's guaranteed contracts now. That's what killed WCW. That and the NWO. In the 80s, there were no guaranteed contracts. Wrestlers had to know how to talk and wrestle in order to fill those seats. Which was the only way they would get paid. That SHAMEFUL line was wicked. Go ahead Big Dust!
you'll should've made the list longer. Michael Hayes, Billy Graham , Bruiser Brody, Austin Idol. Not knocking your list but Michael Hayes & Arn Anderson should've ranked higher than Shawn Michaels. Honorary mentions Gino Hernandez , Tully Blanchard, Ole Andersons & The Road Warriors were pretty good on the stick also.
Fair enough. How long should the list be, Top 20? Ooooooooooooooooooooh everybody going after HBK. You've seen the Canada promos. He's the real Prime Minister of that country. You saw the Undertaker promos leading up to WM 25. PWI Match of the Year winner 9 times, 7 times for WM matches. My point? Shawn don't just talk about it on the mic. He always delivers. When he wins '09 Match of the Year that will be the tenth time.
Researching and in the process of expanding the list to a Top 20. Brody, Superstar, Ole, Hawk will be on it. This is my favorite list so I have to take my time. Michaels is extremely underrated on the mic.
i took your suggestion and made it a Top 20. Just posted 20-11. Gonna post 10-1 later today. Did a lot of research and glad I did. Everyone you listed made it with some exceptions.
Trying to compare an interview done by top WWE superstars and those JEZEBEL TNA stars to the type of interviews I watched as a kid in the 80's would be ... SHAMEFUL!

Jake should be no.1, Million Dollar Man should be top 5 and Scott Hall should also be on the list.
Freddyphelp 2 years ago
Come up with your own list then. I am more than satisfied with my Top 20. Jake is one of the masters of the mic. Scott Hall's drinking problems hurt him. Million Dollar Man was good, but not top 10 good.
TheLuscious 2 years ago
lol no need to get so defensive, I agree with a lot of your list but I was just stating the parts I disagreed with.

Sell
TheLuscious 2 years ago
Yes, how could I forget those guys!? Double A definitely deserves to be in there as does Foley. Why I put Hogan in there, I don't know. I think I may have been drunk.
jw870206 2 years ago
It's pretty sad that you can't form an opinion of your own, and the only essential research for that is actually having seen the wrestlers doing a promo. Something you evidently have not, since you had to do 'research' before posting. Does putting down what other people think really make you feel better about not being able to think for yourself?
eddiehatred 2 years ago
@TheLuscious
So you are saying Hulk Hogan was worse on the mic than the Ultimate Warrior? GTFO of here.
hansolow 2 years ago
You GTFO of here yourself. Hogan, Hart and Warrior are considered to be three of the worse ever on the mic. I'm real fine with my Top 20 all time on the mic. Hogan was horrible. So bad that Vince made Hogan work from the same script always.
TheLuscious 2 years ago
Considered by whom? There's no general consensus that Hogan and Hart are among the "worst" ever. Opinion's fine, but don't state it like it's fact. Hart was a pretty good promo - basic, simple, but to the point and fiery. Hogan's promos are NOT that bad, just very formulaic.
EvenflowBlack 2 years ago
Hogan and Hart are considered among the worst ever on the mic.
TheLuscious 2 years ago
Again, considered by whom? It's not fact, and re-stating your opinion doesn't make it fact.
EvenflowBlack 2 years ago
It sounds real good to me and if you don't like it don't fucking write to me then asshole. Like I care what you think.

Good going, Mr. Mature. Remember to put your toys back in your pram after that little tantrum.

No Terry Funk?!
I loved when he'd call Dusty Rhodes "You Egg-sucking Dog!"

@jw870206 Piper should be on the list

This list is a joke just like the person who put it together with no regard for the Superstars and Dustys and Brodys and Bockwinkels and Flairs who came before these people. Nice to see you got a healthy mix of drunks and drug addicts on your list. Your list gets a D-.
TheLuscious 2 years ago
whatever It's MY opinion what's your list???
johnnycitystar 2 years ago
TheLuscious 2 years ago
I forgot Shawn Michaels I remember his Infamous Montreal promo where he was calling out Bret. Arn Anderson was okay but he wasn't part of my generation. I grew up watching NWO & The additude Era I wasn't even born around the 80's. Also You dont' like Hollyhood Hogan?! he was great on the mic back in WCW he was one of the few people to bring so much heat that fans would throw trash in the ring when he talked. I got a question what did you think of Raven? have you seen his old ECW Promos?
johnnycitystar 2 years ago
Yes, I've seen his ECW promos. A few people suggested Raven. One even called him a darker version of Jake the Snake.I never could get into Raven and I tried. Hogan always worked from the script and it was always the same. The only guy I feel bad about leaving off is Terry Funk.
TheLuscious 2 years ago
I guess cuz we come from a different generation of wrestling. I can tell you grew up to the likes of Ric flair, Dusty Rhodes, The Four Housemen and Terry Funk. The one thing we can agree on is Wrestling now is Horrible!!!
johnnycitystar 2 years ago
@TheLuscious Catch Raven when he was Scotty the Body in Portland. Funny!
yardlet6 1 year ago
EvenflowBlack 2 years ago
Hammer Valentine was actually okay. The Rock owned Hogan in a promo once and it showed how boring and predictable Hogan's promos are. Even in NWO, before the sauce, Hall was outshining Hogan. Same boring script. Vince knew Hogan couldn't improvise beyond, "Whatcha gonna do..................?" Hogan would be revered in wrestling now if he just would have put over a few guys: Michaels, Sting and I mean willingly put them over.
TheLuscious 2 years ago
I completely agree with you. All those wrestlers were worse than Hogan.
steburton 2 years ago
I think that putting Billy Graham above Piper, Rhodes and StoneCold is giving Graham too much credit. Graham could talk, but wasn't as entertaining as those three. Bob Backlund deserves to be put as the all time worst wrestler on the mic. Hogen could cut an interview, but when live, he had problems.
steburton 2 years ago
The Superstar is right where he belongs. He is widely regarded as the most influential on the mic in wrestling in the last 30 years. The list of men who copied Graham is a who's who of pro wrestling: Hogan, Steiner and Ventura who openly calls Graham his idol and countless others.
TheLuscious 2 years ago
For me, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper is the best mike man ever.
EvenflowBlack 2 years ago 4
@EvenflowBlack I think he's in the top 5 but not the best. Rick Flair was the best on the mic in my opinion.
capitalismforever 1 year ago
@capitalismforever Well, you're certainly entitled to your wrong opinion :P
Nah, just kidding. It's all a matter of opinion, and you're entitled to yours. I love Flair, but for me, Piper, Big Dust, The Rock, Chris Jericho and Jake Roberts are my top five.
EvenflowBlack 1 year ago
@EvenflowBlack You could be right because I quit watching wrestling in the early 90's. Although I've seen The Rock, I don't know much about him and I know nothing about Chris Jericho other than I've heard of him. I'm an old school fan. Take care.
capitalismforever 1 year ago
I would put Road Warrior Hawk above Arn Anderson. Arn was good on the mic, but Animal was very entertaining.

How you put Mike foley Eddie Road dogg over Blackjack Mulligan,Bruiser Brody,Ray Stevens and Dusty Rhodes and Jimmy Valiant

Anyone who does not like this promo from Big Dust should be... SHAMEFUL!!! LOL!
nsj1979 2 years ago 4
I love watching this clip years later after I first saw it. Probably one of the best promos I have ever seen. When he says "I know you better than anyone" you actually believe him.
jnazari 2 years ago
Plus there's guaranteed contracts now. That's what killed WCW. That and the NWO. In the 80s, there were no guaranteed contracts. Wrestlers had to know how to talk and wrestle in order to fill those seats. Which was the only way they would get paid. That SHAMEFUL line was wicked. Go ahead Big Dust!
TheLuscious 2 years ago 2

Best promo cutter of all time?
mynameisiansmum 2 years ago 2
Not quite. The best in pro wrestling history:
1. Ric Flair - The Gold Standard; "The greatest wrestler alive today."
2. The Rock
3. Dusty Rhodes
4. Shawn Michaels
5. Arn Anderson
TheLuscious 2 years ago
Difference in opinion, man. lol
mynameisiansmum 2 years ago
you'll should've made the list longer. Michael Hayes, Billy Graham , Bruiser Brody, Austin Idol. Not knocking your list but Michael Hayes & Arn Anderson should've ranked higher than Shawn Michaels. Honorary mentions Gino Hernandez , Tully Blanchard, Ole Andersons & The Road Warriors were pretty good on the stick also.
datdamnleroygreene 2 years ago
One more Ricky Morton.
datdamnleroygreene 2 years ago
Fair enough. How long should the list be, Top 20? Ooooooooooooooooooooh everybody going after HBK. You've seen the Canada promos. He's the real Prime Minister of that country. You saw the Undertaker promos leading up to WM 25. PWI Match of the Year winner 9 times, 7 times for WM matches. My point? Shawn don't just talk about it on the mic. He always delivers. When he wins '09 Match of the Year that will be the tenth time.
TheLuscious 2 years ago
Researching and in the process of expanding the list to a Top 20. Brody, Superstar, Ole, Hawk will be on it. This is my favorite list so I have to take my time. Michaels is extremely underrated on the mic.
TheLuscious 2 years ago
i took your suggestion and made it a Top 20. Just posted 20-11. Gonna post 10-1 later today. Did a lot of research and glad I did. Everyone you listed made it with some exceptions.
