  • Na shit ryan how long did it take you to notice that house has an accent!!!

  • Ryan was clearly being comical. HOUSE is a FICTIONAL character and by commenting how he has an accent is merely mocking the FICTIONAL character. He obviously KNOWS hugh laurie is british. Defending hugh is implicitly insulting implying he's entire persona is encapsulated by the FICTIONAL character Dr. House. Misguided fools...

  • @dryaridnod

Yeah, these guys really don't get it.

  • Dumb Americans with their stupid accent

  • I have the most boring accent in the British Isles - what we call a Home Counties accent. Not cockney, not northern not anything really. The cleverest moment on House was when Hugh, (Englishman playing an American) had to speak as an American trying a (not very good!) English accent. That must have been SO difficult to do - but he did it of course.

  • Everyone has an accent. So stop calling Ryan an idiot.

  • NO YOU FUCKING IDIOT HOUSE DOES NOT HAVE A FUCKING ACCENT. YOU EVEN FUCKING RUINED HIS LANGUAGE. SO DONT FUCKING COME HERE AND SAY THAT HOUSE IS SPEAKING WITH AN ACCENT YOU PRETENTOUS LITTLE SHIT

  • @trondy89 The English accent is an accent just like the American accent is an accent. You literally can't not have an accent. House has an accent. I have an accent. You have an accent.

  • Screw Ryan Seacrest, get Hugh Laurie to be the host of "American Idol". We've replaced almost everyone anyways.

  • sure he has an accent, he's british and i love it

  • WOW WOW WOW!! Dont say that bout Seacrest..He may look sissy but his 1 badazz dude..I heard he punch a flower 4 lookin at him wrong

  • maybe Seacrest said that House has an accent when he ACTS in that show.

  • How does a video like this start up an argument on Black people, Obama, and Racism

  • Well actually, everyone has an accent

  • Oh, man. The sad part is that Ryan Seacrest is a D.J. on my local radio station -___-" I think some people from this country need to realize that it's not an accent if you were born there. Like, Hugh Laurie is English and therefore talks like he's from England. The accent is where you're doing something like, say, acting in a part where you're American. :| Congratulations, Ryan, you make us all look stupid.

  • Please stop talking about the accents thing. You all have completely misunderstood the point I was attempting to make. I'm sure the person who uploaded this video would like you to actually, you know, comment on the video (or even thank them for uploading it!) and not make stupid remarks about something I said A YEAR AGO.

  • @243annie That's an adorable ignorant comment about Americans. I'm not racist towards black people, very few Americans are... if that was the case Obama would not be our current President. But I guess if you've only met members of the KKK or Neo-Nazi's you'd think we were racist.... Every culture has it's good and bad, and I don't appreciate you implying that my country is full of racists. Although if you listen to Avenue Q they'll tell you everybody's a little racist. XD

  • @jadecalhoun Obama is light brown :D

  • It sounds like an odd comment to us Brits but I would think that most of the 'Idol' audience would not have known Hugh Laurie is a Brit.

  • @TheAnn2shoes anyone who is a fan of the show House knows Hugh is a Brit...

  • @klye4583 You don't know that everybody who watches the show knows that. Especially Americans.

  • Oh come on with the talk about accents... just think about how it is for people from non-English speaking countries; I, for example, must have the weirdest sounding accent of them all... a combination of EVERY English accent I've heard... mainly British I guess, (school) then some American (movies, media), Scottish (Trips, teacher) and so on... Well, at least I'm told I don't have the typical Finnish accent while speaking English... it sounds horrible. :D

  • He is the father of a rat...

  • Protip: Britain existed before America.

  • Ryan, House does NOT have an accent, he has an accent to play the part of House.

  • @TheAnn2shoes Everyone has an accent.

  • "Rayan is retarded"

  • THERE ARE RETARDED ASSES IN EVERY COUNTRY BUT THOSE FROM AMERICA I LIKE THE LEAST

  • Mmmm ... his voice :)

  • It seems like all the british people keep bashing americans. I'm american and I don't think like that. That's sterotypical, I don't say all british people like tea.

  • @elizdabeth but we do, earl grey any one

  • hugh lauri dooes no t have an accent.

  • I love Hugh Laurie. I love his accent even more.

  • God, why do they have to haunt him forever with his 'accent'? If we'd have to mention everyone's accent, I'd have to call 50 names just about my work.

After all, I think his way of 'speaking' which I prefer to say, fits him very well and gives him this 'charming touch' to his personality.

  • God, I'd hate to appear on any American show out of character if I had an accent.

Loved Laurie in Jeeves and Wooster before I ever watched House, though he's brilliant in that, too.

It pisses me off when people don't realize he's British, but I'm aware that it shouldn't really bother me at all x)

  • Everyone has an accent, Ryan. I guess school wasn't your thing...

  • LOOOL

    "house has an accent"

im styll not used to it XD

  • @Mancinix7414 yοս сan ԝаtch tv from all οvеr tհе ԝorld οn yοսr pϲ ϳuѕt by dοԝnloаding somе рrοgram, іt's ցot thοuѕаnds of cհаnոelѕ οո it. јust ցο to linevid com (рսt а . bеfοre tհe com οbviouѕly, іt woո't lеt me pοѕt links fοr ѕomе reаson) іt'ѕ nοt exаϲtly freе but іt'ѕ ϳuѕt oոe tіmе раyment aոd іt ԝorks really ԝell

  • @harbinger9111 If you are English you are British, but if you are British you don't have to be English.

By saying he is English, he is not Welsh, Irish, or indeed Scottish. He is from England, therefore it is an approximation of greater accuracy. Britain is made up of more than one country.

Still, it doesn't matter where hes from because he is and always has been great. Sorry if it seems as though I am trying to start an argument.

  • @kyledw92 Ireland isn't in Britain, champ. The North is in the UK. Not Britain. If you insist on keeping at least figure out where it is.

  • Laurie <333333

  • A bit of Fry and Laurie....?

  • Hugh ON American Idol!

  • Wouldn't have guessed that!

  • <3's me some bits of fry and laurie :D

  • I Think Hugh Should Just Come Back To England And Do Some Work For The BBC Instead Of Tryin To Pull An Accent For House

  • Ryan Seacrest is a stupid cunt

  • Everybody has an accent

  • @ManlnCognito hahah

  • WTF HE WAS AMERICAN IDOL?! 10% DEMERIT

  • @lpdark32 yes he takes a 10% demerit for being on american idol but gets it back for being hugh laurie

  • I'm an American but I have to tell Ryan Seacrest "We all have accents you moron!"

  • "House has an accent"? No he doesn't, you're the one with an accent!!

  • no he doesnt have an accent. you have an accent, "House" is talking in the pure form of that language, you are talking it in a distorted way

  • @NetherDrakeye

aaaactually, as much I would like to agree with you, the American English accent is closer than the current British accent to the English that was spoken in Great Britain a few centuries ago.

Still you're right, Ryan Seacrust is being his non-comical self here again...

  • @Notharah Not really. There's so many different accents in the US its not even funny.

People in the midwest speak so much different than people in New England.

  • @NetherDrakeye No, we both have accents to one another. Just like How austraillian people have diffrent accents when they speak. We just have a diffrent way of pronouncing things. And there is nothing wrong with that.

  • House has an accent!

  • really mr host man house has an accent i didnt know that even though i just herd him!!

  • Of course he has an accent, British accents are great, not so much American ones for me meh lol XD sad thing is I'm American!

  • HAHAHAHAAHAHA "house has an accent!" <3

  • WTF? ENGLISH BUT NOT BRITISH??? O_o

  • Just the waqy the guy said " House has an accent" just screams " DEEERRRRRRRP" to me.

    I LOL'd SO. HARD.

  • I remember this when it was live...first time I found out about him being British...good times...I was like holy shit! British?

  • "House has an accent."

No shit, Sherlock. Oh wait, Seacrest DOESN'T have an accent. Shall we say, midget Joel McHale? Hey, less space, less brain.

  • @youtubrgirl12345 Argh I hate it when American's say that. Anyone who is not American has an accent? Really? It makes it seem like they think their accent is the core of language and everyone else 'speaks funny'

  • @nellytheninkynonk well the guy who said it, was in america, was speaking to an american audience and was talking about a guy who usually has the same accent as them. some one "has an accent" means that someone "has an accent that is not from around here". of course everyone has an accent, but you don't normally mention it unless it's unusual, you idiot.

  • @dotchoo @dotchoo No, actually the words "...has an accent" only implies that person has an accent. It's a fairly odd expression to hear for me. Most people (in England, anyway) would say, for example "...has an American accent" because this makes more sense.

It's something Hugh himself has commented on in interviews over here.

"You idiot"? I'm hoping you're actually a 10 year old.

  • @dotchoo ...so, there is only ONE variation of american accent? -.-

  • @nellytheninkynonk dude. even americans know that even within america itself theres different accents. accents is just simply the way people pronounce words in certain geographical areas. You can be damn sure a new yorker doesnt sound the same as someone from boston or the south. theres a huge variety of accents in the US. dont be so ignorant, even brits think americans have an "accent." everyones got a bloody accent innit

  • @CyborgNinja117 This is exactly the point I'm making. Like you said, everyone has an accent. Every single person in the world. Ergo, exclaiming "OMG HOUSE HAS AN ACCENT" and showing genuine surprise is odd, and in my opinion makes him look a bit stupid.

  • @nellytheninkynonk Actually, there is a decided-upon accent in english, which is neutral and contains no inflections unique to any area of the globe. It's required for modeling and advertising and such. ANY inflections outside of this, are "accents". So yes, there is a core, which is universal, and anyone who understands english well can understand without difficulty.

  • @FarazR2 I think everyone is seriously misunderstanding the point I was originally making. It's this guy's surprise that Hugh "has an accent" that I object to. I am aware of the point your making, as I study English Language - I'm merely talking of their propensity to describe everyone outside of America as having an accent. Whereas other people in other countries would distinguish a difference in accent. I know/hope American's KNOW this but they never say it and I find it very weird.

  • @nellytheninkynonk I know, I wasn't arguing that. I agree with you about that. I was just stating that there is, in fact, a "core" dialect, and if Hugh is compared in that context, of course he has an accent. But so does most everyone else. I wasn't arguing with you, cause you made a good point.

  • @FarazR2 Ha, sorry! Youtube makes me touchy and paranoid apparently. =]

  • @nellytheninkynonk Dude, calm down. 'American's' think other 'American's' have accents. Most people from 'America' know that an accent is just the way you talk, not a weird way of speaking.

  • @QuantumSunshine ...I really don't know how many more times I can explain this in different forms in order to make people understand. I suggest you read back on previous comments and if you still think you point is valid then I can't really help you.

  • @nellytheninkynonk

It isn't an accent, it is just how words sound when pronounced correctly :D

  • @nellytheninkynonk

Seacrest is just remarking on the fact that most Americans have only heard Hugh with his spot-on American accent, which sounds 'normal' to us. It tended to be surprising to folks in the States when they learned he was English. It has nothing to do with ethnocentrism, as I'm sure an Englishman or a Frenchman would identify an American as an 'accented' speaker simply because they're noticeably not native.

  • @TallestTeal

"I'm sure an Englishman or a Frenchman would identify an American as an 'accented' speaker simply because they're noticeably not native."

The point I was making is that they wouldn't. If you'd actually bothered to read the THOUSAND TIMES I HAVE SAID THIS, I've only ever heard Americans say that. Other nationalities I've heard would say "has an American accent".

I KEEP GETTING SUCKED INTO THIS RIDICULOUS CONVERSATION GODDAMNIT.

  • @TallestTeal Hope you guys don't mind me butting in here. Nelly clearly says that she hates it whenever this happens, and it happens a lot. The majority of Americans say British and Australian people have "an accent". Laurie isn't the only one.

  • @nellytheninkynonk lol it's ok. everyone around the world makes fun of americans.

  • @nellytheninkynonk

Every dialect of every language is categorized as an "accent". I am American, for instance, and therefore my accent is one of the many forms of Americanized English. Yes, Hugh Laurie does have an accent. An English one. The commentator is just pointing out the fact that most Americans are not aware that Laurie is British, though I must confess he sounds like a bit of an idiot.

  • @nellytheninkynonk Im American and I hate it when Americans do that! XD

  • @TheAlexanderBlues You're my favourite.

  • @nellytheninkynonk sweet!

    :D

  • @nellytheninkynonk As right as that is, but being American I think it's fun to hear other accents. But think about it, the British have an accent to Americans just as we do to the British. It's the same with every language that is spoken in many different places. Spain and Mexico are a great example. Even going from England to Scotland is a different sounding English.

  • @iTeRRoRxX People say there is no 'british' accent. Well I'd take that further and say there is no ENGLISH accent. Only the queen and the upper class people speak how americans think we do. The main accents are northern/yorkshire, scouse, liverpudlian, london, cockney, brummy (birmingham) and the west country. But there are many more! I'm aware that's the case in america too however you are a huge country :D

  • @nellytheninkynonk Thats truth but dude America is a continent... someone should create a word to call them in some way...

  • @nellytheninkynonk ROFL. Its very funny trying to explain to my peers that we even HAVE an accent and, no, not just people from the South or New York, ect.

Don't you love how our host just had to state the obvious?

  • @nellytheninkynonk unfortunatley I would think that many british people have the same view.

  • @nellytheninkynonk Everybody has an accent..

  • @Limmy011 Exactly! Score 1 for intelligence.

  • @Limmy011 In some lingustic theories there is a variant of the language that is considered "standard". In case of English it's generally assumed that it's RP, Recieved Pronunciation. Hugh, being an Oxford graduade, has therefore no accent whatsoever, just like the Queen. The rest of us do.

  • @nellytheninkynonk Well on a show called "American Idol"... based in America who the majority of the viewers are... American, yes Hugh Laurie has an accent. It's not a bad thing, it's not a good thing. If I was in the UK I'd have an American accent. just like Hugh on America Idol being British with a British Accent. It's all about demographics. I hate it when people get insecure over trivial comments and feel the need to complain (Ironic I know since I'm complaining about you).

  • @jadecalhoun You have misunderstood. Apologies that you were offended by what I said, it wasn't meant that way. Only making point that everyone has an accent - it's only American's that say, "You have an accent!" whereas other countries say "You have an English accent" or "You have an American accent." etc.

...WHY IS THIS STILL A TOPIC OF CONVERSATION? IT'S NOT INTERESTING. Fucking hell.

  • @UnleashedKane have you seen the Shakespeare sketch he did with Rowan Atkinson ???is hilarious and sarcastic and so black humored just like British humor I just love it. And well it would be practically impossible to meet him because I live in Mexico, but maybe one day ill be lucky enough to meet him it would be wonderful to meet such an talented actor, and intelligent too, you can't be a comedian if your not smart,it wouldn't make people laugh, his black humor and sarcasm makes him special

  • I have a frend whose mother was the wife of one of the fox directors and he introduced her to hugh laurie, and she told us that he is one of the most wonderfull people that she has met, she also told us that he is very black humored , Id really like to meet him

  • @tatatiux1 I agree with you mate, most people over in the states dont realise that back here in Britain he was always an actor in comedys and even though he seems boring hes actually a really talented funny guy.

  • I love his older work. Makes me proud to be British/

  • He is so cute

  • This will sound really dumb but I'm honestly confused... was there actually a donation call for American Idol?

Hugh Laurie's British accent is so cool. He does the American one so well, I think.

  • English accent. Britain doesn't have an accent.

  • which one? there's several english accents.

  • I know. I was merely pointing out the fallacy that England is in fact Britain, which we know, is Wales, Scotland and England.

  • Pssshht, people know what I mean! ^_^

  • Nah, they weren't taking donations for the show (which is I think is what you mean). They were giving to charity (I forget which.. not actually an American Idol viewer).

  • he's sexy stufff

  • "American Idol" may never be the same...lol!

  • 'House has an accent'

WHERE DO YOU LIVE THAT YOU NEVER REALIZED BEFORE?!!!

  • idiots. Tongue n Cheek, ever heard of it.

  • Hugh was also Jasper in 101 Dalmations C:

  • no shit does he??

  • Also the dad on Stuart Little.

  • omg are you serious? that's crazy. loved that movie lol :)

  • ok...that comment about Laurie's accent was so dumb XD LOL

of course he does...everybody does XD

if he meant it because he is British that is another issue XD

  • and you are a douchebag -_- hes english you sodding moron 'corce hes got an accent

  • LOVE :DD

  • I am ashamed to be named Ryann, ryan seacrest ruines it for us all

  • Oh Ryan. You make America proud.

  • Yeah, proud they aren't him.

  • ...

I have the strongest urge to smack Ryan upside the head and yell, "He's British, you moron..."

  • it was blckadder to fry and laurie to stuart little and to house

  • "House has an accent! :O"

    Lol idiot. :P

  • @theJohnnyOz Hahahahah, really, idiot.

  • @theJohnnyOz Not idiot, making a JOKE. There's a difference

  • @theJohnnyOz that ryan 'eacrest is one grade A twit don't you fink mate?

  • every american that didn't know house was English, not British, has to watch Blackadder

  • i knew hugh laurie when i was child, he was famous comedian in brittain along with stephen fry that time

  • @newmanAPN What do you mean English but not British?

  • @MrJackanthony

The accent is English, not British...

  • @ACE0HUNTER Yeah? Mind telling me the difference?

  • @MrJackanthony

Britain is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, each country has it's own accents, so to say that the accent is British would be erroneous.

  • @ACE0HUNTER I see. Thank you sir. I stand corrected :)

  • @newmanAPN i know, i had watched blackadder, fry and laurie for ages, and then i saw House when flipping through channels and it was surprising, he was talking with out a accent!

  • @newmanAPN

Let's just say, British, not American.

  • @newmanAPN Or "Jeeves & Wooster" or "A Bit Of Fry And Laurie" :)

  • @newmanAPN If you're English you are also British, but you can be British without being English.

  • @Phangmaster jesus, really? if you need to say that... i mean, why did you even bother?? the guy's an idiot.

  • @newmanAPN "was English, not British." fail comment, considering if you're English you are also British.

  • @newmanAPN Why not British?

  • @roni1983 fucking hell....because there is a difference between England and Britain!

  • @newmanAPN FUCKING AYEE!!! So True!!!

  • @newmanAPN Or generally stop being ignorant.

  • @newmanAPN and "A bit of Fry and Laurie"

  • @newmanAPN How the heck can you be English and not British?

    Otherwise, agreed. Blackadder is brilliant.

  • LoL everybody has an accent...the British think the Americans have an accent and vice versa.

  • yes! there's no such thing as .. accentless :-)

  • lol ryan"house has an accent"

  • No shit Ryan!!!

  • He brings shame to all those who are named Ryan. (Like me lol).

  • aww i LOVE house/hugh laurie.

lol love how just how someone speaks it makes them sound nicer. his accent is so cute

  • i died when i saw this :D we have such limited exposure to hugh.

  • house has an accent.

that is pathetic. HUGH LAURIE is british and his best work is NOT house. americans need to watch blackadder, a bit of fry and laurie and jeeves and wooster. then STOP calling him house.. =[

  • well, house is probably the MOST know character that hugh laurie has ever played ;D

  • but definitely NOT the best

  • i didn't say the best - but it's the most known :)

  • yea, i know, i was just saying...

  • Only cos it's the most recent and an American show, hence a wider audience. Ask anyone in Britain what he's best known for, chances are they'll say "George in Blackadder" or other such classic British comedy acts. Oh, the golden years :( They don't make 'em like they used to. That said, his performance as House is amazing.

  • Well.. it's just that America has limited exposure of Hugh Laurie... so we're just so used to him as House on the hit tv series.. it's until fans google him that they realize his background and other works...

Idk.. do they still show ABoFaL on BBC? Like they air reruns? I'd be glad to watch :D All I get here on youtube are clips :[ But thats ok too :] 'Cause at least I get to see 'em.

    'Cause I'd gladly

  • they don't show fry and laurie on bbc anymore, but they totaly should. itv 3 has some jeeves and wooster i thinkkk...i have the box set of fry and laurie, because its not shown enough...

  • well, hm k, then ask an american, or austrian like me, or german or someone else - he's gonna say Hugh Laurie Oh you mean Dr. House

most of his movies may be awesome - but house is still the MOST KNOW CHARACTER that he ever played

  • You forgot Stuart Little's father. That was memorable.

  • hm not really worth to mention it

  • never heard of blackadder have you?

  • Comment removed

  • That's actually true what you are saying, though I'm Aussie I first saw Hugh Laurie as House and then I saw him in the Black Adder series and have seen his other work around...I think people know British actors mainly in specific shows/movies, until you look them up you don't realise what other stuff they have done. Like Damien Lewis for e.g (from Life) Never heard of him before or seen him then he suddenly appeared. I think most countries have limited exposure of British work? but then idk?????

  • house has an accent...

    hahahaha oh ryan...

  • i love the fact that americans think hes american, and the english accent is a put on xD

but, I also find it highly insulting that you only know hugh laurie from House

to all others who actually have respect for hugh laurie ignore my comment, too all those that have there heads shoved up their own arses << and correct my english by telling me its spelt "asses" ¬_¬ go ahead and reply....in your....own little way

  • It's highly insulting that some people only know Hugh from House? No, it isn't. Most Americans just don't know British actors. And that doesn't mean they don't have respect for Hugh. I really don't think Hugh cares. I'm sure he loves all his fans, even if they only know him from House.

  • I find it highly insulting that British people are holding American commentators in youtube responsible for the fact that Hugh's previous work was not broadcast in the US and so they never had a chance to see it - as if the people commenting here are at fault for what the television companies chose to put on TV. It's not an insult to Hugh to have never seen his work that was never broadcast in your own country. Until youtube if the BBC didn't export it, there was no chance to see it.

  • My comment was directed to those that assume he's American

yes i agree with your comment 100% shame not everyone sees it like that, you have to love the internet for being able to allow Americans the opportunity to see his previous work, but still, some people whose head is shoved up there arses like i said still see him as an American.

Stephen Fry said (on Qi) when he was having lunch with Hugh in America - Hugh had to keep his American accent so not to confuse those around him xD
