I brought this camera after i watched both of your reviews! :) The video camera is great quality, although it takes up a lot of space on the memory card. What size memory card do u recommened? I have a 4GB i am thinking about getting an 8GB. I love my new camera. Great photos, great video, great macro, lightweight, easy to use. Thankyou soo much!!! :))
@SkratchD I was stuck deciding between these 2 aswell. In the end i went for the canon as i preferred the look, functioning and design of it. The sony does support optical zoom for hd video though, the canon doesn't, only digital unless you zoom in before pressing record. Not sure what sound format the sony records in.
@robslater90 Thanks for your answer. I actually went for the Sony w350 at the end. I prefer the looks of the Sony. That is basically the only different which I found between the 2. Also the Sony worked out 30 sterling cheaper than the Canon so was the clear winner for me. Enjoy your cannon anyway.
In photo mode, U can choose to take pictures with less MP (mega pixels) So you can make more pics on the SD card. BUT does this "less" MP option affect the quality of the picture??? Like 5MP instead of the 14.1MP.
everyone can i ask you guys something? :D i'm wondering if IXUS 130 is better than A3100 IS ? Ixus 130 is more expensive than A3100 IS but i dont think thats a big trouble..the thing is..it seems like Ixus 130 can take better pictures then A3100 IS but A3100 IS is easier to use and the pictures are not very good..just good enough. What am i going to do? please reply ! Thanks in advance XD
@EeJoKi hehe..Ixus 130 in my place is not cheaper at all though A3100 is newer.IT seems like everybody sells A3100 much cheaper on the internet. Anyway i have chosen Ixus 130 and i'm really pleased :D Ixus 130 is older than A3100 but it has many more abilities and the ps is higher, which can give better pictures.I adore it alot for it's HQ video mode hehe....

Hi! Thank you for this review. I was planning to buy Canon Ixus 120 until I saw this review. I think I'm going to buy this one instead. Are you from southern Scotland?
@kuruptedmunda i'm from gloucester. i thought you were from southern scotland because i have a friend with somewhat the same accent and he's from somewhere in the southern portion of scotland. have a nice day.
Hey nice video, can you suggest a cam that can do well in low light conditions, all the digi cams that I ever owned did terrible in low light conditions, also I need one that can do hd video I'm open to any brand thanx!
Thank you so much for your very informative review. My husband purchased this camera for me today, and I am very impressed. We had watched your review and it sold us. The Auto feature is smart and perfect for me. Without this review I would never have been able to find all the extra features of my camera, as Cannon neglected to add the manual options into their guide booklet. Your step by step approach has save me much time, and effort. Well done. 10/10.
Thanks loads for the comprehensive review. :) I really need to get a digital camera and I'm so utterly lost thanks to the plethora of cameras out there. I wish more people would take more time and effort to come up with reviews like you do! Thanks again! xx
@kuruptedmunda Mention it not! Sweet reviews deserve sweet comments! :) I was debating between a SX 210 vs Ixus 130 and I'm going for the latter thanks to you. :) Came across loads of reviews that said that the SX 210 doesn't perform as well as its supposed to.. That plus the whole awkwardness of holding the camera with the pop-up flash. After coming across this review, I realize I'm not missing all that much. :) I don't know if I'm right since technology and I don't quite get along. :D
wow, i have this camera and never had a any idea it had so many features, thanks for taking the time to explain to us idiots who dont know how to use them
@dfabella31 yes. the camera can only zoom using digital zoom which just pixilates the video meaning loss of quality. Optical zoom when using video would have been better. If you want this, you would need to go for an alternative such as the sx210, ixus300, sx130 etc
Excellent review and really helpful for a new owner of one of these cameras. It really helps to learn what each of the camera functions are and how they work. I will be re-watching your video over and over until I learn how to fully operate this camera. Thank you so much.
im looking to buy the canon ixus 130 because of the shooting modes(fish eye/diorama). Are there better alternatives if im looking to buy a compact cam just for effects?

@ThePapiGfunk Macro is very impressive. Much much better than competitor models. The amount of times iv sold a canon compact simple because the macro mode is astounding. In fact, if you go to a local store, try the macro on the ixus against the panasonic g1 (double the price) and be pleasantly surprised......
What about the low light/night mode? Did you actually try it? I know you can't expect to do miracles with a compact, but is it possible to take nice pictures even in low light conditions? I guess you still have to find a way to get the camera motionless
@martin24685 Their is a dedicated night snapshot mode, but all budget compact cameras aren't going to be very good to be honest. I suggest you look at the ixus 300 which has a backlit sensor and F2 lens. The results from that are quite impressive.
@Spooky5791 I'l make a short clip of the ixus 210 for you. I love the screen, its really sweet and photos seem good. Touchscreen is sensitive (the ixus 200 touchscreen had to be pressed quite hard - just like the sony touchscreens) so thats a good improvement. You can also customise the screen layout too to your preference...good for left handed people!!
But...unfortunately, when you zoom whilst recording hd video, it uses digital zoom
....However, this can be overcome by sensibly/softly moving the stick left or right rather than flicking it.
Answer 3)Yes u can choose up to a 30 second delay. Once that delay has elapsed, you can make the camera take up to 10 pictures. Easy to do (,")
Answer 4) Yes it stands up perfectly..even when lens is fully zoomed out. There should not be any problem. In saying that..if your worried about this...i suggest a min tripod from jessops. £5-£10
Answer 1) It does not record sound on its own. The sound recorded with video is mono.
Answer 2) There is a mechanical noise when zooming in and out. But this is the same with all compact cameras unless you get the bridge-slr types where canon have USM (Ultra sonic motors) built into them. I think you might also be referring to the zoom-in/out stick that i mentioned in my video. If so, if you flick the zoom stick left and right it will make a clicking noise.
1. Can it record sound only? If so, how good is the quality?
2. I've noticed a clicking sound from zooming in and out in some people's recordings
3. Is there a regular self-timer on this camera? Can the time be set manually or is it automatically set on 10 seconds for example?
4. Can it stand up by itself? If so, are the pictures as good as when you're holding the camera yourself? (The camera I own now shakes with the self-timer mode which makes the photos blurry)
i loveeeeeee your acccent!
