  • The residents can always move back to 'shags'. Everybody came from somewhere in Kenya. If this mass rural-cities migration isn't checked, there will be problems down the road. Already Nairobi boasts one of the biggest slums in Africa. Nothing to be proud of.

  • I for one believe it is time people started looking nyumbani, shags, instead of crowding the city putting up shacks wherever they find space. We have to have order. So City Council needs to demolish anything that goes up before a slum sprouts.

  • why dont the government give alternative living quarters before dumping these poor people onto the street?

  • behind i see posh houses there too pose a security threat if all these is under the name of Alshabaab....kenya for the rich and powerful Damnnnnnnn

  • Kenya is going to the dogs

  • Kenya has gone to the dogs!!

  • Some people change their ways when they see the light, others when they feel the heat.Kenyans,it seems, change with neither. Will we ever stop this bad culture of grabbing & building anywhere, trash anywhere & generally assuming rules don't apply to us? Mow down every illegal structure.

  • that Kibera slums can be seen from the moon and tourists are falling over each other to watch flying toilets is nothing to be proud of....it is a shame....stop further slum development!

why grow vegetables using diseased human waste when u can do that in fertile organic soils in rural areas? lets stop thinking garbage!

  • FACT: 85% of Kenya’s population growth (1989-99) moved into densely packed slums of Nairobi n Mombasa .... seriously people where are the services? water? security? hospitals? roads? lights? schools? where are the jobs?

these slums are a menace to society and civilization....these people need to migrated back to their rural homes...what are CDF for? Counties? be real!

  • And we wonder why the youth continue to join groups like Al Shabaab while the GOK shits on every survival tactics the poor come up with.

  • @mcmagicx: slums are perfect breeding zones for vicious urban thugs, under age prostitution, widespread HiVAids, TB and other deadly communicable diseases....the gov't, UN and NGOs must judiciously re-allocate resources to rural areas to attract these desperate people back home!

it is gross how a gov't watches as 75% of its urban population live like pigs.

  • The government is creating more poverty amongst it's poeple! Now watch for crime rise in Nairobi and it's environs and if you are robbed or kidnapped, Blame the freaking GK! Mavi ya kuku!

  • wamepewa notice Kumi na bado they want to stay put! Kenyans are a corrupt and uncouth lot that never wants to adhere to the rule of law but will be the first to yelp when disasters like the one at the pipeline slum occur. People can not invade a city and put up shanties wherever they please. All those informal settlements should be flattened and this people go back wherever they came from! Its never too late! Congrats KAA!

  • now they need to go to Kibera and demolish that eye sore

  • While they are at it, they should also bring down all those "vertical slums" that prevent pilots from having a clear field of view of the airport when landing or taking off. This is selective and unfair. In the same way a John believes that he can.... oh well.... let me not use that analogy for now.

  • Loice Wangui, don't you agree with me that the media standards in Kenya are extremely poor? How did your editor allow you to post this without answering several questions? For example, who (name) sent the drivers of the caterpillars? Where is a copy of the notice? When was it given? Who signed it? Did you interview who signed it? How long have these people lived here? Have there been warnings in the past? Who gave them? What is the real motive for the hurry? Who are these drivers? ETC. ETC.

  • @thepolarden1 Who exactly owns the bulldozers?

  • @thepolarden1 - Maybe you should contact city hall for all that information. It's like a journalist reporting on a murder and you wanting to know the motive, the weapon, who did it, how they did it and where they live. I am sure you understand the kind of obscurity that surrounds this kind of action.

  • @surambaya Yeah, Surambaya, journalists should try and uncover those murder cases too ... that is true journalism

  • @thepolarden1 - Ah, but that would leave the police jobless.... right?

  • @thepolarden1 some editors should just kill themselves + plus I have issues with HR as well.I would assume a firm grasp on Enunciation (Not those borrowed wengs/twengs)should be a basic requirement for reporters.

  • @thepolarden1: africa journalists report events...verbatim...they don't do a content analysis which can be time consuming and uses up their scarce resources....Lol...they also don't want to make enemies with the under world!

  • @siasabora at the end of the day what you have said prevails. Problem is that the council does not react when when construction is going on, but rather after the fact. So they are a big failure when it comes to doing their job.

  • @daniells71: yes n the city council is run by a few top politicians...who see these slums are 'votes vaults'...the more of their tribesmen/women invade the city the higher are their chances of holding onto power...it is crazy.

  • @siasabora lol.... It sucks though... I come here wanting to hear about Kenyan news , and the stories behind the news, but many times you read/hear things like: "amesema"!!! One of the worst last week was the story on Nation epaper that talked of how land cartels con Kenyans ... and absolutely no names are mentioned; no documents presented; it was indeed a porojo article and yet it was given prominence by the paper!!!!

  • @thepolarden1 Properbly You Don't Know Those Drivers of Caterpillars are protected From The Media...So ask Your Fake Goverment Which usually attacks Middle class and The poor..Living The rich dwell the land .....You Don't Know What's Behind This Activities..Elections are in The Corner..So Give Me your Vote , I'll Give you a peace of land if am elected....It also Means More Than That.Kicking The Poor out Of Nairobi ..So That they Get Rich only City..Hell To Richness itself

  • @Speedaddictable .... I didn't see the media ask anything about those drivers ... no pictures of the drivers?

  • @thepolarden1 Media they Have limit of proadcasting any bad polictical activities..It's dangerous and it's better to avoid what might cause you death, kenya is not a safe country, so journalist follow the order...
