did the veena get its sweet sound from the jackfruit or the jackfruit got its sweetness from the sweet sound of the veena.. What an amazing instrument. I cry when i play this great divine instrument. Thanks to you Sir, for making these instruments and continuing the vedic tradition in music.
I felt amused of the way the programme was compered. She was not able to clearly explain that the Veena was made out of the Jack tree and not the fruit. Alas!
Interesting. I'm looking for information related to getting the frets applied. I have a Veena but the wax holding the frets broke away and it all needs to be replaced. Any measurements, diagrams or techniques in doing this would be greatly appreciated
Gr88 to see how veenai is made.. thnx a lot for the info.. could you pls tell me the shop address..and details. whether they make any spl veenai (electric and dismantable)..Thnx vry much. I really appreciate your work.
I don't care about which language he or she is speaking. I am just happy that I could see the Veena being made and the Maker being interviewed. And that he is follower of Hindu religion. Any language is beautifull or poetic but I must be worthy scholar to use it skillfully otherwise I am unworthy and have no right to judge any language!
The making of beautifull Veena the musical instrument of Gods! Raju might have 10th Standard but he is a Master in his profession, he could easily be a professor in music and musical instruments, I deduce this because in order to make a musical instrument you have to know the musical notes etc. He is a successful businessman also since he sell 10 Veenas a month. A great feat since it takes 10 days to make one Veena and 10 Veenas sold a month equals 100 days which he squeezes out of a month!
Do you mean to say that the round resonating base is made of Jack fruit wood? Is that flexible to make like that? I thought it is hard and hence they rely on pumpkin fruit. I will investigate more about it when I reach India.
Yes. It is a hard substance, but a skilled craftsman can carve it accordingly. You can even see in the video that the resonating base is wooden- it has all the lines and contours of wood, not a gourd.
Lots of tamilians in Bangalore. I think it's ok that Kamla talked to him in tamil -- was she supposed to put an explanation about language there as well? lol
Its sad to see Tamilians go around the country assuming that everyone else understands Tamil. I thought Kamla was one of the educated and socially aware people out there but at the end of the day, probably they are all the same. Generalizations exist for a reason. I hope Kamla learns to respect other cultures and be a bit more sensitive in the future.

veena is made of wood from the jack tree "palamaram" in tamil and "plavu" in malayalam. it has 4 main strings and 3 other used for thalam. this veena that raju makes at present is called a saraswathi veena named after godess saraswathi, there are numerous other types of veena available. the wax that he s mentioning ll hold various stick like metal which brings the melody out of veena. its the best instrument in the whole world. making veena is a tough job, so ppl are not coming forward
How stupid can people get? First of all, this video has got nothing to do with languages...secondly, for all u kannada activists out there, this ain't kannada, it's tamil...thirdly whoever thinks one Indian language is better or more "Indian" than another is an idiot...how does it really matter? Just enjoy the video

he is speakin one of the langs of de country ,It is just as much the bhasha of the Rashtra.I cant believe that u lot are making such dumb comments like 'speak this language or speak that language' Instead of being proud that we have such a great variety of langs and people in India you demand that people speak only certain languages with bigots like you there's no wonder why our country has problems, loving and respecting Mother India is only through loving and respecting all her children

for starters you ass, bengalis like bose, tagore, sister nivedita from ireland, Kittur Rani Chenna from Karnataka. so many freedom fighters who are non hindi speakers. I'm not saying anything against any language, v should be able to speak what we want wherever we are.... U fucking dont even know the history of the country ,bahana is just the name for u. an u have enuf an plenty 2 say about language.
Forget it dude, i've realized that you are one big fat looser and there is no point talking to educated morons like you.You know one thing, you have just disgraced your own culture and your own mother land.I really feel sorry for you for having such a narrow minded thoughts and no knowledge of your country's own superheroes.
Hey Hey - Watch your language - go get an education. This is music we are talking about. Using Vulgar language does not mean your are clear in conveying your message
dumbfuck... the japanese and germans are where they are because of industry and discipline, not to mention determination and unity throughout the nation, not by wasting precious time scrapping over language,

must be chikpet in Bangalore, where most such shops are there. When i worked in a company where they were trying to devise ways to make electronic music by software and some hardware. we had a professor visiting from a top US univ and two engineers from top Jap music company. they wanted to buy tabla, i took them there, thorugh all kind dirts, bangalore has few dirty places :-) surprise they all took tabla and started playing. almost like indians masters hmmm music has universal language..
I dont know where you are. May be in US or in another western country. We, Indians wherever we go (Tamil, Telegu, Kanada,Punjabi you name it)we follow our traditions and teach our children to follow it. And then Sir, people in the west say, when you come to our country live like as we do. Sounds familiar?
I think so, too. I'm from partly from Haryana and I don't care about such things as language. We're all Indians. That's one thing what's so special about us, we consist of so many ethnic groups but on the other hand, we are one ethnic group.

Jack Fruit? I thought it was pumpkin/gourds. The jack fruit shell is soft and cannot be carved to resonate. Interesting.
