the only reason i play drums with a straight-edge band (i drink) is that it's so much better for the music when you can have songs people can relate to easily. After-all, most peope are not drunk when they listen to hardcore, so why would they want to listen to someone rambling drunk? Also it's better for playing gigs when your band is sharp and with-it. Most of the time, you see a pissed off, hateful comment from a straight edge kid, it was provoked by someone who does drugs trying to shit. If you think those suck, then that's your opinion. Besides those two, I mostly listen to Hardcore/punk. @cobhc732 Well, it depends on you're musical preference and when you got into hardcore. There are some people that love modern day hardcore and hate the old stuff, and there are some that like old school hardcore and refuse to support what its become. I personally love both, but listen to new school hardcore more than old school. Plus, you can't really go to shows and support bands from the early 80's anymore. But cobhc732 is right, its all about STRAIGHT EDGE and PMA (in my mind).

@psycock Learn something about the history of hardcore, then comment. I'm not saying i'm ignorant, or am I saying i don't like rock even though most of it is garbage, especially now. Punk started because outcasts got sick of the shitty generic rock they heard, so they did it differently, faster, and pissed off, which turned into hardcore. Sure, it may have indirectly influenced punk/hardcore, but nobody cares/cared. Hardcore has always been pissed off and ignorant... thats the point.

To be straight edge, you have to not do drugs, not use tobacco, not drink, and not engage in promiscuous activities, but also you have to CLAIM straight edge. Just because someone follows that, doesn't make them edge, you have to CLAIM it. And I'm pretty sure, since the words were never termed until the 80's, people from way back then, weren't "straight edge."

the only reason i play drums with a straight-edge band (i drink) is that it's so much better for the music when you can have songs people can relate to easily. After-all, most peope are not drunk when they listen to hardcore, so why would they want to listen to someone rambling drunk? Also it's better for playing gigs when your band is sharp and with-it. But Damn! Why all the hating on people who choose what they put into their own bodies?

Most of the time, you see a pissed off, hateful comment from a straight edge kid, it was provoked by someone who does drugs trying to shit. I personally don't get pissed, but instead try to convince them that if they don't bother us, we don't bother them and stuff, but a lot of people take it to heart when hated on, that when you see serious hating.

@necrocoprophilia Have Heart is the only band on this list worth listening to. Lionheart is probably the only Metalcore type band I like, along with The Ghost Inside. If you think those suck, then that's your opinion. Besides those two, I mostly listen to Hardcore/punk. I was just stating to the person that made this video that there are many bands that are Straight Edge that aren't about breakdowns or how heavy they can get.

@cobhc732 Well, it depends on you're musical preference and when you got into hardcore. There are some people that love modern day hardcore and hate the old stuff, and there are some that like old school hardcore and refuse to support what its become. I personally love both, but listen to new school hardcore more than old school. Plus, you can't really go to shows and support bands from the early 80's anymore. But cobhc732 is right, its all about STRAIGHT EDGE and PMA (in my mind).
